  • Feb.22 -- Jeff Immelt will be remembered as the CEO who wrecked an American icon: General Electric. When he took charge in 2001, GE was the world's most valuable company. When he was pushed out 16 years later, it was in a perilous slide. Immelt, who's releasing a new book, “Hot Seat,” tells his side of the story in this exclusive interview with Erik Schatzker.

Should never have lead this company. The Board was also incompetent !!

The ex-Vanguard CEO was the lead “independent director”, the perfect “yes man” to run a business toward ruin.

An incompetent leader is savvy and charismatic, and excels at 4 things: feign competence, Create Confusion, Buy Time & Fail Up.

GE probably cared more about the stock price then reinvestment into the company to make it better.

Over 60% drop in stock prices is more than a “lag”. Slice that. Love your catch phrases.

My Dad will forever hate Jeff Immelt for ruining his stock portfolio 😂 aside from Ken Lay, Immelt is probably the prime example of horrible 90’s bosses.

No one would have sued him in France for walking away for that deal . As matter of fact they are lawsuit and investigation on former alstom executives for backing deal which is widely view as damageable to french interest. You just screw up big time and you should give back all the money GE paid you

What went wrong: Jeff top-ticked every deal

I bought a brand new dishwasher from this company and had a very bad experience, took over a year to get my washer to actually work, the delivery workers were rude, and couldn't get anyone to help with any issues with the Brand New Washer that wouldn't work when it arrived. Never again will I buy anything from this company, let alone its stock.

Delivery workers aren't GE employees. Also its Appliances are Chinese owned now for a few years.

At least their jet engines don't have explosive blades like Pratt and Whitney engines do and their engines don't cause groundings like Rolls Royce did on the 787s.

GE was the victim of the USD as the Global Reserve Currency. We exported our industrial base in service of the petro-dollar system.

Dotcoms is what did it. Old economy new economy. Pure timing. NOt Immelts fault. I worked at GE in 2000. I left to go work at a hedge fund. I missed GE.

Jack Welch bastarized the company. His qoute " we have to get rid of mentality, Not invented here!". What it ment we be able to buy whoewer comes with a new gizmo anywhere!. GE was most likely the very last to leave production of radio vacum tubes. I myself started working in photo-flash dept. (Magic-cube, flip-flash, super-cube, flash-bar), when it was commonly obvious and seen in multitudes of Japanese tourists photo gear possessing of electronic flash. Transistor radio products and so on hollow the American idustrial might.
