In Irish folklore, it's custom to leave a mistake or two in your knitting and crocheting projects because when you create a new project, it takes a little piece of your soul, and so you have to leave a little mistake as a way for that piece of your soul to escape and return to you. I think it's a very relaxing thought. I don't think it to be true, but it's a nice thing to say and a nice way to find enjoyment even in your mistakes.
Love this so much. I have adhd so its hard for me to learn new things as well as stay with them. I want to learn this because I have no marketable skills, and I can also use this for my own use as well. Best advice I have ever heard from anyone.
Hi Abijah, I'm so glad to hear you found the advice helpful. Learning to knit will be challenging at first, but the more you practice, the easier it will become. When you feel yourself starting to get frustrated, take a break, and then come back to it. Before you know it, you'll be able to watch TV and knit without even looking at your needles! Once you get the hang of it, I think you will really enjoy the relaxing and rhythmic process of knitting. Keep me posted on your progress! 😀
Those tips are great! When I started knitting a few months ago, I was so stressed out about making a mistake. My greatest fear was dropping a stitch in my project without realizing it. I squeezed my needles and yarn so tightly that I could hardly knit a stitch. I had to learn to relax and enjoy the process!
This video was so nice! ;_; I've been under a lot of stress lately and have gotten back into knitting recently to relax, but instead of relaxing, I've been frustrated with myself because I used to know how to do it and don't now. Your tips to allow ourselves to make mistakes, allow ourselves to take time, etc really helped me feel better - not just about knitting, but about life in general right now. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Tabytha, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It sounds like you need a simple project to get back in the swing of things so you can relax and unwind. Here's a beginner shawl for you to try: blog.nobleknits.com/blog/how-to-knit-a-triangle-shawl-for-beginners

Hi Nancy, I love your videos and your blog and I miss your PA store. I am currently knitting with a Crabapple skein I bought from your store when you closed. I just wanted to point out the pronunciation of VICUÑA. It’s in Spanish, so it sounds vee-cu-nia
Hi, Nancy. Thanks for posting tips. I appreciate the time you've put into it. I was wondering how to turn the background music off if it's an option. It's really hard to concentrate on what you're saying with music and talking at once, and it's very loud as well.
Good tips, I'm about to embark on the journey journey of knitting my very first scarf and I had been having troubles with my hooks being too tight, haha. Would love to see more content from you, kudos. If possible could you make a video about combining two different colors on a scarf? Im planning to do a hogwarts house scarf from Harry Potter.
Apart from music complains, I noticed that you were swivelling from side to side, albeit ever so slightly but which I found bothersome. I wonder if any one else noticed it too or they were too focused on loudness of the music.
Thanks, Nancy.....here's some of mine....get a stitch counter [ex. one of those cute frogs] which will save you many episodes of ripping out. When knitting small areas in the round [ex thumb], put a different number of stitches on the last needle which will tell you you're ready to start a new round. Another one is knit two mates [like socks or mittens] in a timely manner as your tension can change over time, resulting in different sizes. To avoid second sock syndrome, get two sets of needles and knit them in tandem.....toe of first sock, toe of second sock etc. They'll be finished at the same time! [almost] Enjoy!
Hi Adele, You aren't the first person to tell me that and so now I no longer add background music. In fact, I recently remade this video with just me talking: ruclips.net/video/mthSV3vQX_w/видео.html Enjoy! 😀

The background music made this video impossible for me to watch. I'm hearing impaired and that much noise makes hearing voices difficult. You are imparting some very good advice here, is there any chance you will address this again without the background music, and perhaps add some additional advice?
Hi Joan, thank you so much for your kind words and your feedback. I no longer use background music in my videos and I've improved my equipment - so I think recreating this video is a really good idea! Thanks! 😀
