Love the angst and the beauty of the fleeting miracle that is mortal life and also the art by the OP, and I love when fans explore this type of elements in Good Omens,but here's the thing: I still agree with you, not only bc of the reasons you mentioned (it being heartbreaking), but also, bc narratively it doesn't really make sense in any way for Good Omens specifically in any form of media to have such an ending. It doesn't make sense tonally, it doesn't make sense thematically, and it doesn't make sense for the characters individually nor as a couple. There's a line in the book at the end to finish Crowley and Aziraphale's story that literally goes something like "and rest assured knowing that even now, whenever a really important event is happening in the world, be it a positive or negative event, just like how it was since the dawn of time, Aziraphale and Crowley will be there in the background explicitly and purposefully NOT doing their respective jobs at all and letting humans Do Their Own Thing™ while they also Do Their Own Thing ™ just like humans do and have a great gay old time". And it's not a thing about "but the series is different! They have different focus and character arc & development ", bc yes, all that is true, but the tone and themes both for the general narrative and the individual character arcs of the series are the same as in the book. I believe it's 50/50 on wether we get the OG "Angel and demon go live the two alone together in a cottage for all of eternity to allegedly thwart each other more easily" that was planned alongside sir T.P, or wether Mr. Gaiman falls into temptation to do one of his "happy endings", which are at most bittersweet but not really so much sweet as they are really sad and esoterical overall (see: Stardust and Coraline, works of his that allegedly have "very happy" endings).
