    Plastic and Chemicals Crisis and Plastic Recycling in the World and Turkey.
    The panel included four speakers who are experts in their fields; Justine Maillot “Rethinking Plastic Pollution”, Dr. Bethanie Carney Almroth “The Limits of Safe Habitats for Humanity: Plastics and Chemicals Are Disrupting the Earth's Balance”, Dr. Sedat Gündoğdu “Plastic Pollution Crisis and Türkiye”, Atty. Deniz Bayram shared posts under the title "Plastic Recycling Sector and Human Rights in Turkey". The speeches were translated simultaneously into Turkish and English.
    At the event, which was held face to face and online, it was discussed that many harmful chemicals are used in the production of plastics, that they are not produced in accordance with recycling, and that the production of plastics that are harmful to human and environmental health should be banned. Additionally, the ecological destruction and labor exploitation caused by Turkey's imported garbage for recycling purposes were also explained. It was emphasized that garbage import should also be banned.

    Justine Maillot:
    Justine is the coordinator of the Break Free from Plastic (BFFP) movement in Europe. He is trained in international law, European law and environmental law, and worked on EU ocean and fisheries policies at Greenpeace's EU Unit for four years. He joined Surfrider Foundation Europe after taking an eighteen-month break to travel and work on small, local projects in Madagascar, Nepal and Peru. Here he started working on EU policies on plastic pollution and contributed to the work of the BFFP movement, particularly on the Disposable Plastic Directive, before moving to Zero Waste Europe and the coordination team of the Break Free From Plastic movement in Europe in 2019.

    Dr. Bethanie Carney Almroth is professor of environmental sciences in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. With a background in fish physiology and ecotoxicology, Almroth works widely in interdisciplinary groups addressing environmental pollution. His research focuses on the sources and fate of plastics and microplastics in the environment, chemicals in plastic materials, and the effects of exposure in aquatic animals. His interdisciplinary collaborative work aims to find feasible solutions to large-scale environmental problems. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental science, animal physiology, aquatic ecotoxicology, and biochemical toxicity and leads a research group of doctoral candidates and postdocs. Dr. Carney Almroth is also an active science communicator and strives to inspire children and young students to become interested in science and the environment. Dr. Carney Almroth works at the science-policy interface and advises decision-makers at various levels, from local to national and international authorities. He is also a member of the steering committee of the Coalition of Scientists for an Effective Plastics Treaty, advising country delegates on plastics science issues in support of an ambitious agreement.
    Associate Professor. Sedat Gündoğdu:
    Associate Professor. Sedat Gündoğdu has been working on marine biology at Çukurova University Faculty of Fisheries since 2009. He has studies focusing especially on marine plastic pollution. Gündoğdu has many studies on the sources of microplastics entering the aquatic environment, their distribution in the aquatic environment, their effects on living things and their transfer to the food chain. He is currently researching the sources of plastic pollution and its distribution in various ecosystems. Gündoğdu, who also has studies on the impact of the international circulation of plastic garbage on the ecosystem, wrote Plastic: Miracle or Disaster? A popular science book called is published by Yeni İnsan Publications. Gündoğdu still continues his work within the Microplastic Research Group at Çukurova University.
    Lawyer Deniz Bayram:
    Lawyer registered with Istanbul Bar Association. She has worked on gender, environment and climate issues in various non-governmental organizations since 2010. Among the institutions she has worked with and provided consultancy services to are the Mor Çatı Women's Shelter Foundation, Greenpeace Akdeniz, MSF International, and Change.org Climate Program. He prepared his master's thesis on environmental crimes in the light of international developments at Galatasaray University, Department of Public Law. He is a research assistant at the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch.
