I’m currently 21, turning 22 in 2 days and I have to say that his music came into my life right on time. I was recommended his music by a friend early last year but didn’t take the recommendation seriously until late last year. Lucky, song, and just recently Pie in the electric sky/if I lay you down are amongst the most quintessential songs I’ve experienced as a 21 year old. It’s a shame that it seems like his genius wasn’t acknowledged to the extent it should’ve.
Wow. For the longest time there was absolutely no Lewis to be found on RUclips. So grateful for these live clips. He remains one of my fav artist of all time.
I was in New York when he played those final gigs at the Bowery Ballroom, I think it was, but I didn’t discover him till a couple years later, and knowing he had played a few miles from me about killed me-would give a lot to have seen him live.
The crazy part of this is seeing how many fans he had in the crowd. they were singing his backup vocal parts, knowing his songs inside and out. To know that he has since fallen into somewhat of obscurity is very sad for me. Cannot wait to hear what he comes up with in 2022
At 4:20 he starts playing, and we are Lucky, and I was lucky to be there and remember that epic night. What a groove, what an artist, what a miss. LT please come back ASAP. Purple sound from UK
Oh to have been there! Saw LT at The Esplanade in Southend. Went straight out and bought the LT album but was slightly disappointed. Why? Well the live performances of this stuff just transcends the restrained studio versions. Live it's the pure essence of the song, the band is unconstrained and the riffs and monumental guitar solos fly. So much more gritty and so much better for it. I mean this version of Shame with its prog interlude (Frankenstein - Edgar Winters) blazing lead lines and master class on light and shade dynamics.... it's just another planet. The band is incredible. If only there had been a live album. As many have said already, gold. Somewhere out there there must be a soundboard...
you're a fucking legend. i didn't and couldn't enjoy his stuff during his active years because i was too young so thank you very much, this upload brought me a lot of joy! was about to kill myself, it didn't work out and now i'm lucky to be alive. much love to you!
What amazing Artist I’ll never forget when I heard he’s album the next Marvin gay unfortunately the industry is horrible that’s a pure talent he doesn’t used him properly.
Appreciate you so so much for sharing rare footage of Lewis Taylor!! Hopefully this stays here long enough before Lewis Taylor himself sees it and takes it down.
My pleasure. I saw quite a bit of material up over the last few weeks and it's still there, so I figured I'd give it a shot. No one's making money off of this, so maybe he's finally cool with it. I'm only sorry I didn't record the entire show.
@@michaelstradford545 No worries I'm just grateful you even took the effort at that time to even think beforehand about archiving footage of LT and for saving it for all these years. Much props. Just in case if you were not aware yet, LT did an online written interview from July 14, 2016 with Soul Jones. He mentions some tracks that we never got to hear from him. To be honest I doubt LT would ever make a comeback to the music scene or performing music ever again, which I respect his decision to do so, although I still really enjoy his work I'm obviously disappointed.
I read the interview. It was slightly depressing. But I'm glad I got to see him several times in London and at his only US appearance at the Bowery Ballroom in NY. I wish I would have recorded that show. It was magic.
That's interesting, I think that fact that you found it depressing says more about you - just that you're depressed that he isn't doing music anymore or something? I didn't find the interview depressing at all, I found it an interesting read. He seems to have gone through something and come out the other end with a lot more self awareness. I think it took a lot of integrity to step back and do all that. And he seems to have retained (or gained) a sense of humour about it as well.@@michaelstradford545
I'm not depressed about his choices. Perhaps disappointed is a better word, but it was slighlty depressing to me because he seems resigned to accept his status as whatever he is now. He never seemed very happy to me, except when he was onstage, ironically. If he's happy now, I'm happy for him and will always appreciate the body of work he created.
Thank you so much for posting this! I wish there was footage of him playing some of the B-Sides from the first record (Asleep When You Come, You Got Me Thinking, Waves, etc.)
*was there also. was this downstairs of a restaurant. i flew in from USA. had the chance to speak with him and he mentioned someone had stolen 1 of his guitars (wasn't me, i cant play lol)*
I think you'll find people aren't saying that about LT anymore. He seems to have stopped taking videos down ages ago now. I don't think it was about other people making money, he just didn't want them up there period. Maybe he's just not bothered anymore. You never know with him. What the hell kind of a guitar is he struggling with there? lol
Things may have changed, but money and feeling taken advantage of was definitely a part of his pathology during the release of his US album. All good, it's certainly his right to feel however he feels about his music and how it's exploited. If he ever has this taken down, I'll certainly understand. I'm just glad that other fans have a chance to see him live, for however long this is up.

you are damn right about that!
Good news... he's back!

"Song" kills me every time... Such rare footage, such gold.
I was there that night too. What a privilege it was to see this. Will never forget that gig
Went to one of his gigs, and I got to have a little chat with him, a really nice bloke. He needs to start singing again, I miss him.

One of UK’s Greatest Artists Ever in my opinion
Wish I saw you live. I was 15 in 2004, grew up listening to your music. It’s a part of me now.

It was a great gig. I think I met his mum that night!
