My awesome factory NAV RB1 radio finally gave up on my Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ so it was finally time to upgrade!

Great video. You cleared up one huge headache for me. I'm right now installing a aftermarket higher end Kenwood double din head unit with new Kicker speakers front and back with Alpine amp in my 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited with Infinity Gold. Kenwood dash tweeters as well. I also have the Maestro steering wheel control module that has to be flashed. Your info on just needing the one wire for SW1 instead of having to wire for SW1 and SW2 to control both steering wheel switches is where I was stuck. It also helped with the programming. Just having to input the info to flash SW1 into idata website is better than entering the resistor and wire color on SW1 and SW2. Thanks a mil.
Thanks! You really saved me on this one. I bought the radio a week ago and have been trying to change the backlight colors. No joy from the vendor. I had to slow your video down to catch it all, but I got it.
Thank you for sharing this video. I, too, hate the look of aftermarket stereos and am really excited about the one you installed. That radio looks so good compared against typical aftermarket systems. I'm seriously considering replacing the aftermarket rig I have with something like you showed here!
One of your best, for me anyway. I was also super proud of myself when I got phone functionality out of my OEM steering wheel buttons on my 2000 WJ 😂.
I agree! Thanks for the good words!
I’m right there with you! OEM all day. I can’t tell you how many aftermarket radios I’ve dumped for OEM.
Amen to that! I like factory too but to each their own.
I agree! Thanks for the view!
I’m a factory radio geek too. I love your videos and will use them with my WJ eventually. I’m hoping to get a low mileage 4.7HO or 4.0 Laredo with the plan to swap in a Golen some day. Thanks.
Nice that sounds like an awesome plan! Thanks for the view!
Tore the 4.7 down. The heads look usable. The crank will need a .25mm crank grind. The piston skirts were worn. Ordered Enginetech .50mm hypereutectic pistons on Rock. Ordered the valves , seals and guides from Rock auto. Gonna send the block, rods and crank to the machine shop. Gonna go straight to honing the big end for .002 larger .25mm rod bearings.
Nice that should be a pretty cool build!
I totally enjoyed this video. I have an 04 wj with the factory radio like the one you had. Mine is old and sometimes it takes a bit for the screen to come on. I like the look of the new radio you just put in.
It's really cool that you can short and long press each button on the wheel for different commands. :)
I know I was really excited about that! I'm not sure I have see that before. Thanks for the view!
I feel like that’s really cool where you can have a modern technology with the original look though
I know I was really excited when I found this one!
"I don't think chrome will work without internet". Wow. Thank you for telling us.
I think I meant to say chrome won't work even with your phone connected vs. using the phone as a wifi hotpot.
Hi Tyler, thanks for your video! I’ve got the very same radio model as yours. I have the same connection issue you had. Could you tell the name of the adapter you used or where I can find it?
My lack of interest in most of the aftermarket radios is also why the cd player steros ive had to deal with are black matte and semi gloss black faceplate not the silver and bright stainless steel looking finish faceplates
I want to upgrade the OEM head unit in my 2009 Ford Escape with a NAV screen but like you, I can't bring myself to do the modification until it breaks.
Same with me! I had no plans of this until my screen died.
Hey Tyler, very cool video!!!
Thanks!
Definitely the best option on the RAM. Cheeping out on the RAM always leads to slow boot times and pauses or stuttering during playback. It really annoyed my when I had my CX-5.
I totally agree! Thanks for the view!
I have another running 4.7 that I will do just a ring and valve and rod bearings. I was quite impressed that there was that little of wear on this high mileage engine. The only real issues I saw were seized oil ring, and worn out rings. I could actually get away with a dingleberry hone and new STD pistons. The crank is also eligible for a micro polish. Only one single rod was heated a bit on the inside. Either way, there will be a factory fresh bottom end. I will plastiguage everything when I put the short block together. Need to buy an ebay digital scale again to weigh the pistons and bring them into a 1/2 gram balance.
Nice should be a solid bottom end!
Hy Tyler, does the radio gives you an option to select a custom bootup screen (JEEP) at power up? Thanks for the great video.
I need to look into that I am not sure?
I cracked the screen on my rb1 when i removed the dash by myself. (Should have waited for a helper!) I stuck a Kenwood single Din unit in my wj, paired with infinity Reference IX speakers in all the doors. Sounds amazing but the user experience of the kenwood is lame.
Nice! The menus on this are a little bit clunky but really not too bad for an aftermarket radio. Thanks for the view!
How's the new head unit holding up?
Did you do a video on how to ADD the steering wheel radio buttons on the back of the steering wheel? I would like the link if so. Thanks in advance.
No I haven't done that project yet on one. I believe it is pretty straight forward though. Thanks for the view!
I know you've sold this WJ since then. Is a long term review still an option?
Hi Tyler, great video! Since you have been using this unit for a while, how do you notice the sound quality? Do you like the sound or do you prefer the sound of the old RB1? I have an RB1 in my WJ and it sounds perfect, but it's showing signs of fatigue, sometimes it gets stuck on the Jeep logo and won't boot so I'm thinking about changing it and this Android unit seems like a good option, I just have doubts about the sound quality. Great what you are doing for the WJ's!
I need to make a update because I have fought it not connecting to my new S23 ultra for android auto and I am a little disappointed with the audio output considerably less bass than the stock head unit even after playing with the eq settings
Hi Tyler, do you need an external amp to power the speakers? Will this radio work with an iphone? I like the looks of this radio and thx for the video.
I am using the factory speakers and factory amp with no other wiring and it seems to work great. It is listed to support android and Iphone in the listing. Thanks for the view!
How is the radio holding up? I have a touch screen in my 02 Overland and the screen just took a dump. Only had the radio couple months… need something reliable. Thanks in advance.
Android auto will not connect to my new phone but worked perfectly with my old phone. I'm hoping hope that there will be an update to take care of it. Thanks for the view!
So after a year, how do you like this radio?
Awesome replacement radio find! Now that you’ve had a short time what are your likes and dislikes about it?
So far everything seems good other than my new S23 Ultra phone is still not acting right with it? I can't really fault the radio since it worked perfect with the previous phone. So it has to be a issue on the phone side of things. Hopefully a future update will take care of it. I also seem to have less bass but still need to play with the EQ settings more. Thanks for the view!
Is there a Follow Up on this?
Not yet but I need to make one.
Have the issues with the 23 ultra been resolved?
Hey buddy, Awesome video! I have the S22 Ultra and I'm debating on either the Fold or the S23 Ultra...Is your TRX working OK with Android Auto and the new phone? Obviously I ask cause I have a TRX and want to make sure it's compatible....Smart decision on the phone!
I sadly haven't driven the truck in forever but the wife's chevy bolt works great with my S23 ultra and her S23.
@Tyler Potter Tyler, How do you go a day without that TRX lol... Any top secret info on a Redeye TRX? I so want one and very much considering doing the Twin Turbo on my TRX, or a little less and doing the Tyrant package...
Thanks buddy!
I purchased a Pyle double din with that stuff for $120
Yeah the larger screen of your double din would be nice!
Tyler, I have purched this for my Grand Cherokee and my TJ. The issue I have is at night when I turn the lights on all the lights on the front flash. Can not figure out how to fix it. Any ideas.
Interesting I have not had that issue? Does it do it on both the Grand and the TJ?
Hey Tyler, 4 months in is the head unit still operating ok?
Thanks for the view!
Hey, do you happen to know if I can wire my CD changer to this head unit?
I don't think there is any way to connect the factory changer to this radio. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter thanks bro
How about a short update, Likes and dis likes. Still satisfied with it?
I really haven't gotten to drive it much since I had so many others to work on and drive unfortunately. I will say it does not like my new S23 Ultra phone though for android auto, I'm hopeful there will be a new software update that will take care of the issue in the future. Thanks for the view!
No Cassette? What's this world coming to? Wanna sell them seats?
I know lol and no these are in really good shape for 200k miles for some reason.
Save an offline map in the Google Maps app while connected to WiFi . Then you'll have nav even when offline. GPS will locate the jeep on the offline map and you'll have a standalone nav set-up
Dang that is an awesome idea! Thanks for the info and view!
Too much faceTalk 😅
I agree lol Thanks for the view!
You talk SO MUCHHHHHHHHHHHH 😣
Thanks for the view!
Nice video lots of options and a clear step by step. Thanks
Thanks for the view!
Dude, more show and less tell
Will do thanks for the view!
Do you happen to know if they came with a pre-wired factory amp hook up?
It hooks up to the factory wiring and uses the factory amp. I'm not sure about an aftermarket amp though thanks for the view!
