I have watched a lot of these tsunami videos, but I don't think I have ever seen this one. It is ferocious and terrifying!

I too, have watched a lot of the tsunami videos and have never seen this one. At one point the top of the frame was this massive surge that looked like the sky. My heartfelt prayers to all who were effected as well as Memory Eternal to the 18,000 souls lost on March 11, 2011.

This is the most horrific thing I have ever seen! I can't imagine seeing this coming at you and still having the presence of mind to film it all! This was like Dante's inferno

I have watched many of these videos from March 3 2011 and each time I think "oh, that's not so bad" when the first little wave comes along and slowly moves into the coastal area. But then....
Thank you, Yanagizawa Seiichi for capturing this horrible day and sharing it with the rest of the world. May those who were lost find their peace, and their families too.

same and i still fail to estimate the final height in the beginning...so if i ever find myself in a tsunami warning ill just go as high as possible knowing ill underestimate the thing anyways

People say these walls failed, but the reality is that without them, they would have swept through 10-15 minutes sooner without them so thousands of people at least got a chance to make it to safety.

The enormous volumes of incoming water-it was so unfathomable or incalculable. It’s like you couldn’t imagine it inflicting any further damage than it had already seemed completely to do, at a certain point. It just kept coming in and coming in. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Previous video footage at the school, always had a vantage point either high in the building the river, or at the school..
This, had a person on foot, who made it to the playground, and they climbed a large rock located there..
Watching the water rise around the rock, The debris increasing exponentially, by the second..
It shook me, when the video abruptly cut off..
I feel for all those impacted by this terrible tragedy. I hope that survivors can find peace in this world, in the rest of the lives they live..

I have watched Soooo many of these Japanese tsunami, but this one was incredible. Near the end of the video, where the ocean looked like a huge pot of water boiling. And it made it look like there were thousands of octopus in the ocean, waving their long arms around. Great job videoing this 😁👍🌸 much love from Christchurch NewZealand 🌸

Yeah a tsunami is a high pressure blister on the ocean which comes spinnning onto land
The front of it hits a ten meter sea wall but there’s two more miles of blister behind it coming in like a rhino
    Verdict
Half arsed job by japan on tsunamis

    • @feiryfella
      @feiryfella Год назад +13

They based their defences on a 'typical' tsunami, but also a 'bad' tsunami going back to 1960. What they hadn't reckoned on was a '1000' year tsunami, which this was! Hardly half arsed.

It was hard to watch like that. But I have a lot of sympathy for the people who were recording that day. They're watching their homes disappear under the massive waves, I don't think we can expect them to be thinking about framing their photography.

The technology by today's standards would be primitive. That we have anything is to be commended. We are watching history being made. Perhaps software can modify this video clip, but it is still worth posting and viewing in its raw form. The story is the tragedy of lives lost and property destroyed; this is not a made-for-our-entertainment movie.

5:06 even prior to this point the devastation was catastrophic, but the surge that follows totally obliterated all of those buildings in the foreground 🤯
Truly unimaginable, and to witness it in person must have been so traumatic. My heart goes out to the people of Japan who survived and lost loved ones.
