  • I tell you what, this Saab 9-3 Viggen really surprised me! 🤯 I always thought they were a bit strange looking and never understood what Viggen actually stood for. But after taking this beauty for a test drive, I must say I am thoroughly impressed. The power and the overall performance - it's all top-notch for the age of the car!
I've gained a whole new appreciation for Saab and their unique designs.

I've owned the same car since 2020, full bracing/stabilizer setup with limited slip diff and a st3 tune by genuinesaab. Civilized around town but a monster when you mat it or track it. Lights up both fronts at 45mph just by matting it in 2nd! Nothing else like it. Mine will never be sold. Far too much fun. Glad you got to experience one!

The biggest difference was the Viggen had the 2.3 turbo charged engine the rest had the 2.0 engine. Saab were the masters of the turbo chargers before everyone else got on board.

Huge Saab fan here Amelia and so pleased you made this video. I wanted you to make the video longer :-) My brother had a Viggen from new in lighting blue with that Abbot Racing Kit - a phenomenal car. Please do make more Saab videos (Like your dad’s one) and other classic cars. Pleased to have found your channel.

SaabGirl myself here, just came upon this video. For a moment, I thought you were driving in the US (image reversed), but I see now you, your sister, and this pristine Viggen are in the UK. If she's sold it already, I hope it went to a good driver/home.
Not sure what kind of pups she has, but this car is dog-possible. When I bought my '99 9-3 cv (now classic to me and tuned, but non-Viggen) back in '02, I had one 50-lb dog. The dealership salesperson (female and young like me) had a RR Disco and a 9-3cv, along w/a couple of dogs herself. She told me the car could be dog-friendly, and as I adopted two and three more, we enjoyed top-down driving (w/harness/leash and seatbelts, ofc). This was in SoCal, though, so YMMV...
    In 2016, I drove my 9-3cv x-country here from
CA to MA w/my last dog. Since he passed away, I've had no more pets. Yet I do still keep a canvas seat cover, harness, leashes (and doggles!) in the trunk of my now 25 yr-old 9-3cv for my own sister's pup - or any other, just in case.😉

Owned one back in the 90s downfalls, severe scuttle shakes especially with the roof down, brake's and suspension nowhere near up to the power, very thirsty, but i still loved it. Could i be tempted again? Possibly

Awesome video thanks for making it. I'm on my 3rd viggen. Love them so much. No other car gives me the same smile when I drive it like my viggen. Rare as hens teeth now. If you have one keep it

Really enjoyed the video! Well done. Just for some "extra credits" (i am a swede and "of the period" were these were all that and a bag of moose steak). Tha major thing with the Viggen was that it was the only combination of the 2,3 Engine and the smaller Chassis, otherwise only the 9000 and later 9-5 had the 2,3. The 9-3 Turbo and Aero made due with the 2.0
That's why These wer SO popular among enthusiasts of the time as the engine could with almost no money invested be boosted to 280+ PS and even then they were under-stressed.
    Enjoying the content good work!

My 2001 Saab Viggen convertible has been my daily driver for 13 years. Still a great looking and performing car! FYI - First and second gear is electronically limited to keep you from driving into a hedge. Also, my 2001 does have traction control.

The first attempt at performance cars ?. Err no. 99 Turbo, 900 T16S, the 9000 Aero ?. Or even the 1992 9000 CS Carlsson which remains the quickest 0-60 Saab ever produced. Paul @ The SAAB Clinic.

Loved the SAABs that I’ve owned - including a 9-5 HOT Aero Estate which had the same 2.3 motor and 250bhp I think.
And my son loved going to school in our 9-3 convertible with the roof down.

Well lets face it, it was a very poor marriage between GM and SAAB, post 1998 after the SAAB 9000, the last true SAAB. BUT I do agree the Viggen could be a desirable SAAB to own? But not a convertible. Scuttle shake is very very poor as they used a Vauxhall Cavalier saloon chassis (alongside the saloon), not to mention steering rack mounting issues on the firewall for 9-3s for RHD markets causing cracking on the firewall - though I believe this was resolved with later 9-3s and the 9-3 Viggen. It was not an issue with LHD (left hand drive markets).
