I'm a deke who just finished pledging and he's so right. You really can't understand it until you've gone through it. There's something about spending hell with a group of kids and seeing them at their lowest points that make you respect them. It's really all about respect, you can't expect pledges to do everything for you without them knowing you went through the same thing. It humbles you, strips you of whatever ego you might have, and makes you a better person. I'm so glad I went through with it despite some kids dropping, because nothing is sweeter than making it through initiation. Long live the frat culture. PS to any rushees, prepare yourself for hell week!
I agree. Theres got to be mutual trust. Put the pledges through hell, but don’t go too far. Most frats are bueno anyways, this is to the 2% ruining it for everyone.
i love what this brother said, he talks about pledging in the best light and what our fraternities stand for, what a stand up guy and an awesome organization
this is why i’m terrified of the next generation. pledging a fraternity is an amazing process and anyone attending a greek life college should consider. it shapes you as a person and all your other brothers. it gives you relationships you wouldn’t have if you didn’t go through the same thing as the brother next to you. it’s a process, and it’s an amazing one. people who’ve never been through it see it as negative, but it’s the exact opposite. do you think if it was really all that bad we’d all just stick around for the semester?? like no. i feel absolutely horrible for the pledges, hope it doesn’t stay this way for you fellas
Pledging is optional. No one forces you to do anything you don't want to do, because you can always leave and not do it. It's not life threatening, it's a rite of passage. I agree with him because I feel bad for the pledges to have that bond and respect taken away from them based on hearsay.
^^^^So many people don't seem to understand this^^^^ By paying a nominal fee, we actually do own those seats. If you really care that much, create an organization and apply for block seating...it's not hard. I never understood why people care so much, it's not like endzone seats give you a better vantage point anyways...
Most Greek organizations are cheaper than meal plan and student housing put together if you decide to live at the house. A lot of the money goes to food anyways. It is also a great way to meet new friends and earn connections that last not just through college, but threw life as well. Drinking is not all that a frat is about. You said yourself that there are a lot of Greeks in SGA. That's because leadership is encouraged by the organization, and your brothers as well.
True, people also forget that everyone literally everyone parties or had partied at college. Also don't forget those sports teams, if you're a D2 athlete you can literally do fucked up shit and get away with it. You can also party and get away with it. Depending on your national org, it's very hard to be a shitty fraternity
Not all Greeks are rich with they're parents paying everything for them. You are being very prejudice, and overgeneralizing an entire group of people/organization has never gotten anyone far in life. You can't judge the majority based on the minority.
Total liar body language over gestures down cast eyes to careful choosing of words nerves for all this composure. Like all busted teens pedaling a story trying to save their ass. Personally the waiting hand and foot ect. Isn't so bad but degrading is ridiculous.
What does their parents paying for things have to do with them being on SGA? If you are tired of Greeks running SGA, get your own lazy ass on SGA. Greeks are in leadership positions for a reason, we are more driven and outgoing than our independent counterparts.
Oh, so that's how a fraternity teaches them to be men right? Lying straight to the camera. This whole interview made me laugh so hard especially the end. "We don't provide minors alcohol."

Deny everything, admit nothing
Give them nothing, they gain nothing
take the L clone
Excellent display of firm moral character in the face of impolite reporters.
I’m a DEKE from 1994 and I still sing my songs when shit gets hard! Lifetime of good values
ITB!!
i love what this brother said, he talks about pledging in the best light and what our fraternities stand for, what a stand up guy and an awesome organization

cuck
DKE's get fuckin rocked at alabama
Their pledges get shit on lmao
I thought that was the common notion of DEKE nationwide? They've got a notorious reputation for hazing!

Then you get blacklisted and your college experience is so it definitely is forced
I wouldn’t say it’s not life threatening. Plenty of people die from certain hazing that takes place or get bad injuries
no doubt it works out muscles, but i know when i had to do them it wasnt to exercise

Serving others is part of relationships on every level.
One of the reasons we are producing a nation of whimps is because exercise is now considered hazing
my opinion OMG, there's hazing then there's abuse. I say a little bit of non hurtful hazing is fine! WTF?
Journalists need stories
Alpha Kappa? I heard that was a real pig house
My husband and son were both Phi Delts and I dated several Deke's they parry hard but they're good guys
bows and toes as a form of exercise my ass haha
S Barlow grow up
We called it character development.
If your rich dad was there than you're chilling, not to say there's not benefits but damn ...
Drinking a Happy Dad Rn watching this shit lmao

boredatschool23 so true I’m a Greek my family doesn’t have a lot of money. I work 2 jobs to pay my dues and have money for other things
ITB
Actually you're wrong. I knew what I was getting into from the beginning.
They get reserved seating because their organization pays for it.
I'm not, I'm agreeing with you and elaborating on your point.

the question at 2:17 kills him. this is awesome. hahahahaha
