goes to show how light years ahead in terms of expressiveness the tabla is compared to the south indian instruments and even the Pakhwaj..its time Carnatic music abandons these 2 sound instruments and comeup with something better.
+Hindustani Music Lover Mridangam is pakhwaj. It is versatile enough - unless you are biased. In fact the variety of percussion used/seen in Carnatic is actually lacking in Hindustani. So you need to think more of that.
+Stupidity I will not comment on the aesthetic value of 5 different percussion instruments continuously improvising behind a lead artiste's improvisations, or lack thereof. but while playing in solo performances a mridangam or a khanjira doesn't seem to have the capability of producing large enough variety of sounds, and on the microphone it just sounds like it produces two sounds. that way even your desk would be a percussion instrument. there is nothing wrong in acknowledging a good idea.
+Hindustani Music Lover that is true but all the instruments in the above video are supporting instruments. Tabla is an all rounder, it can be used for a variety of music western eastern etc. but for carnatic( south Indian music ) tabla is not preferred because it alone cannot create that atmosphere which which mridangam and ghatam or khanjira together makes nor can it replace mridangam(main supporting instrument). Lastly tabla is not LIGHT YEARS AHEAD IN TERMS OF EXPRESSIVENESS , BUT IT CAN DEFINITELY MAKE MORE SOUNDS
+VARUN RAJ V R finally somebody I can talk to properly guide me in appreciating carnatic music. So, are you of the opinion that mridangam khanjeera ghatam and morching when played at the same time should not be sounding cacophonous when done properly?
Classic Ad hominem, Ustad zakir hussain does whatever: 1. pays him. 2. is popular 3. is consider appropriate for Ustads to do. 4. would seem impressive and marketable. there is a video out there where Ustad Rashid Khan Mocks and hilariously shits on Carnatic music, there is shubhankar banerjee in that video laughing in agreement does that mean shubhankar banerjee and Rashid khan know nothing about music? A percussion instrument is as good and expressive as the number of distinct sounds it makes, period. the reason why Pakhawaj fell out of favor in the north was, because of its design it makes just two sounds.

2:33 How foolish the cameraman would be!!
That's Allah Rakha himself. Had to focus on him I guess since the function was a tribute to him.
@@nimishagupta8548 No, the man sitting there is not Abbaji,..see him carefully.... whoever he would be, the cameraman must focus on the Performer first...
He's Legendary Ustad Allarakha(Abbaji) on which he focused the camera😇
