    Err, this is amazing. You have made goat meat out of mushrooms and chickpeas. You are a genius Korenn. I love the Caribbean Curry and have made the meat version for my family for years but since I started plant-based diet I have only had it twice with a very naff seitan effort. That block of mock meat looks very substantial. I will try this. You have a new subscriber here and on instagram. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Looks good! Some of the first vegans I met were Ital, this would be right up their alley! I think a lot of people are thinking Sebi is the only alkaline diet, when Ital has been around longer, perhaps Sebi knew something of Ital, Honduras to Jamaica isn't that far.

    @KorennRachelle, I have tried this recipe several times and it has been aahhmaazing!! However, I have not yet mastered the art of successfully cooking king oyster mushrooms ( they tend to take on a “rubbery” consistency) I want to swap out the mushrooms with young jackfruit; you think that would work? Also, dried porcini mushrooms are not readily available to me (I have to order them online and wait 🙄) I have porcini mushroom powder at my finger tips (don’t ask 😒) lol. You think I can use the powder in place of the dried porcini mushrooms? 🤦🏾‍♀️ I want to debut this dish ( and the oxtail) at my first all vegan thanksgiving dinner. Help me nah! 😊😊

    • @KorennRachelle
      @KorennRachelle  5 лет назад +1

      Sorry about the late response, The mushrooms 🍄 you have to almost treat like a tough piece of meat.cook them hard for a couple hours up to three! Depending on their size. Definitely try the jackfruit, you can also use regular oyster mushrooms which are much more tender and don’t require nearly as much cooking.
      Absolutely use porcini powder! As a matter of fact I might have to lift an oz or two off your hands lol. Let me know how every thing comes out

    How do you hydrate the chickpeas? What is a good substitute for rice paper?

    • @KorennRachelle
      @KorennRachelle  6 лет назад

      Just put the chickpeas into a large bowl and cover them about two inches above with water. All the to sit and soak, they should be ready for the food processor after about 3-4 hours. I honestly dont know about a rice paper substitute... im still working on that one.

    May I ask why you use rehydrated chick peas instead of cooked?

    • @RheRheSmily
      @RheRheSmily 5 лет назад

      Cause she get them dried. So you need to soak them over night, cause they will be to hard if you dont. Or you can get chickpeas from the can, that way they are already hydrated. Its cheaper getting them dried.

    I love your dish it seems exciting - I just don't understand the steps ie what was your liquid at the beginning ??? stock?? what type ? just some constructive feedback (me I would just make it up) but for amateur cooks who do not know how to improvise may have issues here !! if you don't want to talk just write it in a list or have the steps listed below at least they can follow along... great all the same

    Looks so meat like. Can you do a few recipes without mushrooms. I don’t think the alkaline diet (Sebi) can have garlic.

    • @KorennRachelle
      @KorennRachelle  6 лет назад +1

      Mushrooms are bae' for me, lol. I certainly will though, I have some jackfruit I need to use up. I'm still straddling the line as an alkaline vegan, I might have to hold on to the garlic just a little bit longer.

      @KorennRachelle  6 лет назад +1

      Lol, I know... Its a slow progression for me. I'll get there. I'm a borderline alkaline vegan at the moment.

    • @quiskaeya
      @quiskaeya 6 лет назад

      kwnatural Dr. Sebi never approved garlic. It was added after his death and then removed. His wife has pushed to have his list reinstated to its original form.

    • @Gee-xb7rt
      @Gee-xb7rt 6 лет назад +4

      kwnatural Garlic is more acidic than not, however considering its used in limited amounts its not exactly the same as eating processed foods. Dr Sebi released some seriously bunk -- like pretending he cured AIDs and was MJ's doctor to try to sue the estate.
      Garlic could have helped him with his pneumonia, but he is dead now, oh well. Garlic produces an enzyme called allicin when it is crushed that is a really good antimicrobial. Allicin is destroyed with heat so it has to be raw, and it has a half life of about a day, so I don't really trust the supplements, and a clove of garlic is a lot cheaper anyway. You can put a clove or two in some guac, hummus, gazpacho, etc. and enjoy the benefits. Garlic, onions, and ginger have been used as antimicrobials for 1000s of years.
      I would strongly suggest any Dr Sebi follower to look elsewhere, beyond the $50. supplements. Any whole foods plant based diet is naturally more alkaline. Focus on what you can do instead of what you can't, that's so Puritanical and can cause imbalance in your gut all on its own just by always focusing on the negative.
