  • Episode 55 - Portishead - Glory Box
"Glory Box" was the third and final single released from Portishead's debut album "Dummy". The track is based around a sample taken from the Isaac Hayes track "Ike's Rap II" which appeared on the "Black Moses" LP in 1971. The credits online indicate that the bass player was Ronnie Hudson and the sample was detuned by a semi tone to put it into E-flat minor.
Tablature in Guitar Pro 7 and PDF formats is available here: www.dropbox.co...
I used my Ibanez SR500 which was recorded into Reason through a DI Box and my Steinberg UR44 interface. The track was then processed with a compressor, the Kuassa Cerberus bass amp sim and some chorus (as you can tell I love to put chorus on my bass)
The video was shot using Samsung A41 and A52 smartphones. The video was shot on a cloudy day so the light levels moved up and down at random. Rather than throw out the video and start again, I overlaid VHS and film scratch type effects in an attempt to match the "grungy" trip hop Bristol vibe of the song. I think it works out. I used GoPlay Along 4 to capture the tablature and then put everything together in DaVinci Resolve 17.
