Totally in the Pink Floyd mode. The tempo, timing, and main riff are right there, like Floyd. Lots pf cross pollination with those UK bands. Small country, small music community. All you'd need is a Hammond Organ and Gilmour solo instead of those pesky horns ... Not that there's anything wrong with it ...
This has nothing or at least very little to do with Pink Floyd - a quite spurious musical cross-reference. Chapter Three was firmly rooted in the jazz-rock/fusion developments of the time.
No need for a guitar solo; that would ruin this! And Manfred Mann is a great Hammond player--better than Wright! Not to put Pink Floyd down, but this has more in common with Soft Machine than Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd DID have an improvisational element inspired in part by free music, but they never hit this level of sophistication musically. PF were excellent at manipulating limited technical ability into thought provoking structures, so they were very good at that. Mann was a musical chameleon and was a master of many forms of music. Sad that he was not more recognized and sad that this, the finest of his many groups, was not more popular.
All tracks on this album are great. Chapter Three a great album.
one of the great underrated bands. manfred always had superb musicians.
Dark, forboding and beautiful. One of the most original wind section arrangements I've heard. Glad to keep om digging up rare gems like this!
Best track on the album
