also consider WIDTH..I am also gathering for a buildout of my Promaster city.. WIDTH ...wheel well to wheel well is only 48 inches.. SO width of over 30 inches of bed leaves only 18 inches to opposite side for cabinet space or cubes, etc....if u use minimum 12 cubes on the opposite side leaves very little clearance between bed and cabinet space..so look at how much body width u might need in addition to length and height..so if you subtract 12 inch cube from remaining 18 inch u only get 6 inches open floor space ...make sure u can move around is key for me

this is super important I agree. You've got to consider whether you want space between the bed and any storage. I've got a couple bed options coming from Amazon that I'll test out in my new (used) Honda Element!

The bed frame I have coming is 24". Same size as a yoga mat. Think that will be wide enough for a good night's sleep - with a quality foam under me. How wide is your bed?

@@mylifeinavan 24 wide, 4 " thick upholstery..it is VERY firm.. considering a lil topper to smudge it a lil softer but I'm not FT so this is fine..so far.. TWO dunnage 24x24x12H..the solid welded ones..(I don't trust the joints on the assembly ones).. my cooler gives me another 24x15..which will go on the end when in bed mode..I keep my rear seats up, so my setup measures exactly 48x48x48 high..I tried 20" wide but too skinny for my liking.. struggle now is cabinet /storage/ shelf no more than 12 inches wide for the Bluetti to go under.. I hate the plastic Walmart draw thingy..
so: to date: 2 dunnage 1 Coleman cooler, 2 Bluetti , Eb3a and AC70..100w solar..and a trunk full of thrift trinkets I now have to pare down..window covers and water is next and last..not a thing else

I happen to own that metal twin bed, the second one you looked at. It’s heavy. Easy to put together, but heavy. My home base is basically an art studio with a bed in one end of it…..lol….
Weight of the frame and the mattress are both something you have to consider. And also how wide it is. I know you are considering width and length. But not many mini vans of the type you mentioned would leave you hardly any space with a twin bed. My little yorkipoo travels with me and sleeps at my feet. So I have to consider that as well.

Jackie - mine's not really a twin, cuz it's only 24" wide, but it is HEAVY, as you said. I'll see how it all feels when the frame arrives. In the meantime, doing my first campout this weekend. I like the sound of your home base/art studio. Yep, gotta make room for your yorkipoo!

I am looking forward to seeing what kind of bed you get now that you have picked your van

I'll tell you what I'm planning on - a 24" wide, 60" long restaurant supply metal dunnage rack for the frame with a 24X67 mattress. I got a longer (72") rack and returned it. Too long for the Element. The shorter one arrives 12/23. I'll film it when it comes!

Maybe you could gesture less, it would be easier to watch

Aren't those beds all too long for a van?

Karen, a 72" long bed frame CAN fit in my Element, but only with the front seat slid all the way forward.
So I returned the 72" and got a 60" long frame and I'll figure what to put at the end for my feet.
I'm not good at figuring out that kind of thing on paper or in theory. I've got to do it physically. So it's currently an experiment for me.
I'll be sure to shoot another video when I get my new bed frame and set it all up.
