Bro I'm loving your informational videos. Of course your other "So you wanna play.." series are encyclopedic in terms of information, these shorter videos are much appreciated as well
loving these new, more analytical, type of videos! great editing and cool insights into the game!! hope you continue with more and more videos like these!!
I love the new series, especially the civs comparisons and the maps. That being said, no gold fletching gives you 50 gold, almost enough for an extra archer. Archer bonuses are fine in Feudal and will be needed for skirmishers against their strongest weakness in crossbow and arbalest. Then you have the unique tech inquisition with missionaries, in the hands of a master like MBL or Survivalist (certainly not me) they are better than crossbowmen with equal resources. This is always a crap shoot as conversions have an element of chance. The speed of the missionary gives them the ability to retreat if they do not get the early conversions. The MBL vs Hera battle on T90s channel is a great use of all the Spanish have to offer, including faster firing bombard towers.
Seeing the trading clip makes me think: a reasonable bonus would be a trader whose pathfinder targets just one or two tiles to the left (or right, but all the same) of center of the target market/dock.
back in the day I used spanish as best as I could. I used their 30% speed building bonus to only use a single villager to build a house so I could get the rest of the villagers to start working immediately (not incredible but it meant a bit more resources early on, everything counts=. Then I used the no gold cost for blacksmith upgrades to get the best cavalry armor upgrades, and started to build Knights in castle age. My best game ever was one where I did that and destroyed the TC of a Mongols player, that congratulated me for beating him so badly (unexpectedly so) and he asked me if I wanted to join their team, a group of friends he used to play with
Great video as always Hera, I’m really loving this series. Question, do Conquistadors have a place when playing pocket in team games (mainly thinking about Arabia and similar maps). Their Knight play is fine but generic, I always feel like I’m behind other pockets until late game when trade becomes relevant. So leveraging their power unit feels like it is the way to even the field early. I feel like this is a no go in 2v2 and 3v3 because skirms would just kill your whole team, but maybe their is a way to make it work in 4v4 in early castle age and then switch back into knights later? Thanks!
I think conq play for TG is really good on certain closed maps. On arabia ur flank might suffer but it can still be a good option if u and ur flank stay safe while u bring them out
if you play your cards early on, the spanish can simultaneously defend both players and help with the other player's attack significantly. Conqs are the heavy-lifting unit but they're even more unstoppable if there's all kinds of normal units along with it, and so whatever portion of the map is advanced on, the enemy will pretty much have to forget it. The hardest part in my opinion about the spanish is that you have to develop crazy fast which is part of the reason why it's good at hideout
It's basically replacing it. He said he wanted to do something that was easier to record, and the editing here is also clean and professional which I really appreciate. :)
You failed to mention Spain's most obvious advantage: Highly mobile cavalry army. You have mobile cannoneers & mobile monks combined that with paladins and hussars. I build a heavy fortified city, and constantly perform surprise attacks and run away. I use the hussars as explorers and also to confuse an enemy as to where the attack is coming from, the paladins as my main attackers for town centers, castles, civilians, conquistadors as distance attack support to kill off individual units, Monks as healers and converters. When things get too chaotic, I run away to some far away and safe place, 30 monks will heal a whole army pretty fast. I also bring replacements which I leave behind on the "safe zone" to prepare for a quick second attack. It's pretty epic I tell you
Yeah I use them from time to time. Benefits are you dont have to open with a castle so you can do vils on wood and gold instead of stone and you're not using food to make the unit so it's easier to boom behind that in some circumstances. Also you can pump them out from more production buildings. Most of the time conqs are the go to unit but you can mix in CA sometimes. Also when you have early ranges for archer rush or skirms
@@HeraAgeofEmpires2 I would love to see what changes Hera would make to civs to make them all A or S Tier? An eco bonus would not need to be crazy. Some are mild starting with +50 gold, or +150 food. I would like to see Spanish repair at +30%. Since Byzantines have town patrol and town watch, Vikings have wheelbarrow and hand cart. Let the Spanish repair as fast as they build. One could say it is OP because they have tougher villagers in the late game and repairing castles faster would give too much of an advantage. But castles usually go down because one runs out of resources or is completely overwhelmed. A civ with an eco bonus can just add an extra treb to counter. I would also say the cheaper resources to repair for Slavs and Franks are better. Would it give too good of a bonus to tower fights? At home probably, in another base, not as much. At home, they can pull in more villagers but in another base, they are limited unless they want to sacrifice all their eco at home. Thoughts?
I am just asking something like Ethiopians eco bonus. Spanish really needs to get their power spike aka. Conqs a bit faster. Getting some food and gold at age up could help this so much.
Buff SPANISH pls Edit: They need to change the unique techs for Spanish. They are nearly useless. Maybe make gunpowder cheaper and/or an eco bonus unique tech
Spanish reck mesos if you know what you're doing. Conqs and mangonel push up front, longawordsmen defending eagle rushes at home. It's how I beat an aztec opponent recently
@AlHasan Sameh uh I didn't say that. You're making a strawman. If mesos knows what they're doing and Spanish knows what they're doing then its 50-50 depending on those other factors I mentioned. In no way is it inevitable that mesos win because Spanish have power spikes and the tech tree to deal with all.
HD Spanish are better 'cause they don't have hunchbacks. They keep watering them down. My series "The British Empire was NOT The Biggest" proves that the Spanish Empire was the biggest. Hypocrites count oceans of sand but not oceans. Also, Spaniards were in Australia before the British. Also, Spaniards discovered Hawaii first after the natives of course. Also, Spaniards saved Europe from Islam (which Russians also did). Also, Spaniards were the first people to go around the world. Also, the Spanish Empire committed no genocide which is why most Spanish speakers are brown.
They are a good civ man. Their tower rush is strong. I don’t even back up with MAA. I just wall an area and drop a tower in the middle of it. Rinse and repeat on the wood line and gold. GG. Get to castle (you don’t even have to be first to castle) and drop a castle on TC. Spam conqs. EZ

Great video! Hope my two favorite civs Aztecs and Chinese will get a redo with this style in the future!
yes they will hopefully!

Great Video Hera! Have you taken any "speech courses"? You use no crutch words when you speak (no "uhms", "ahs", "like etc.)
There are no uhms or ahs in his micro either.
Obviously Spanish are best on Migration, where they can go fast-imp into Elite Cannon Galleon to siege the middle island for a drawn out win.

I love to tower rush with them. So smooth into Conqs
YEEEEES HERA THE HERO
This is very well organized, easy to digest, and fully comprehensive informational video. I really liked it.

The missionary should be able to catch up reliqs
Awsome!
Spanish is my second favorite civ after Mayans
Good vid
In 256x tech you might actually be able to justify archers since you get Fletching cheaper and the only thing Xbow gives you is HP
I prefer the instant conversion with triple inquisition.
XBows have a train time of 17 seconds (compared to the Archer's 25)
@@unimportantcommenter4356 Oh, didn't know that. Guess you need more ranges then. More wood, less gold
256 tech mod just use vills........... supremacy....
@@dasweq3806 For 256 tech, I would use repeated loom as it would be cheaper. With triple tech, then... yeah!
Paladin + Halberdier + bombard cannon best 👍🏻
👍🏻
So despite the strong cannon galleons, regular galleons should still be the mainstay water unit late game?
well canon galleons cant kill galleons so u need some galleons at least and some canon galleons behind for buildings
Is there any reason to use Cav Archers as Spanish? After all, you got Conqs, which outclasses the Cav Archers in most instances.
Yeah I use them from time to time. I never play 1vs1 Iam not sure if all your review it’s all about 1vs1 but would be nice to mentioned for people who do actually play team games
Wait, so Inquisitors don't receive any bonuses from the blacksmith? 03:56
Not attack but archer amour yes, if I am not mistaken
They do benefit from archer armor but the armor is not necessary to make it a beast unit anyway is what he meant
They're no Byzantines, but they are almost best civ
But what counters the Spanish????
If only they had a decent eco bonus...
they would be crazy!

@AlHasan Sameh then micro, good engagements, macro etc come into play. It's not civ win at all is the point
