Ok not perfectly sure but it’s definitely what he’s listed above 👆 and I think they’re stomping on delays and modulations etc on and off timed w settings adjusted to each song. After watching the doc over and over they said they were tapdancing. Gonna finally get a fx500 and I’ll report back
@@hokmner Watch the Souvlaki documentary and there's a scene in which Halstead says he was tapdancing pedals on and off throughout the song, im assumming like choruses and phasers for dynamics, and stacked delays to have "2x speed" on and off. Not sure what else besides wet reverb and the occasionally different tunings such as E A D F# B B (Morningrise, possibly She Calls). I've only scrounged all this info thanks to all the talented people on here and reddit forums who have a passion for this sound.
ok who is drumming this record now? is it still simon scott? and who is that other guitarist next to the drummer? please find another footage for this.
Good spot! It's Ian McCutcheon who played sublime drums on the Pygmalion LP (and Mojave 3). He's got such an amazing lighter jazz style than Simon who tends to just hit things hard. I've heard that Simon got very disinterested with the experimental style Neil was heading in so decided it wasn't for him...which allowed the band's seminal LP to be created.
A significant musical tragedy that they didn't do "Melon Yellow" on the album like this. It's the one song, as it is on Souvlaki, that keeps that album from being a seamless masterpiece, which it absolutely would have been, if they would have done it in this gloriously noisy style.
it is my understanding that, around the time Souvlaki was in production, they were severely doubting and second-guessing themselves at every turn, in no small part due to Alan McGee's constant criticism of their material. obscure masterpieces like Summer Daze and Richard were probably not recorded in the studio due to that; and of course Melon Yellow not being as noisy as it should've could also be a symptom.
Still godtier in 2024
One of the best slowdive videos on RUclips. Wish I could experience something similar today.
