The best part about this is that even if you aren't familiar with Sutekh and haven't watched much of the classic era, the entire buildup nonetheless keeps you in the chills
I for one haven't watched Classic Who, but Ncuti's expression of absolute terror really sells it. Reminds me of Eccleston when 9 faced the last Dalek; new fans would've had no reason to fear that tin can, but the Doctor was terrified just knowing it existed
Yes, I agree. I grew up in the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker era, and I knew of the original Sutekh from the Pyramids of Mars. I often wondered if they would ever create a 'return of Sutekh' story long before this, but whilst I was watching this series that led to it, it never would have occurred to me in a million years that this was the one that would see a Sutekh come back, the makers kept that well under their hats until the last minute. It was only when the anagram thing began to form the word that the penny dropped for me. Even though it wasn't quite the Sutekh that I knew, it was still great to see him return, and, of course, realistically, we can never expect it to be exactly the same as it was back in the 70s, everything moves on. One thing that I would have thought might have been an even better twist is if Sutekh had somehow turned out to be Ruby's father, who perhaps in some way, had impregnated Ruby's mother, that might have explained a few loose ends in the overall story but it doesn't look as though the writers were going down that route. It wouldn't have necessarily changed what Ruby is because even if her father was an evil beast, it doesn't mean she would have to be evil too. I do think, though, that they would be making a terrible mistake getting rid of Ruby (played by Millie Gibson) if that's their intention, they really ought to reconsider because this actress and the Dr Who actor Ncuti clearly have a chemistry between them that comes over in their acting. Some people just work together and others don't, these two work together like dynamite, they shouldn't try to replace her with someone else who might not have the same rapport with the current doctor no matter how hard they try, you just can't fake that. Thanks.
@JohnCashin while both eras were before my time, this special really captured, especially as I researched more on Sutekh, just why the Doctor would be so utterly terrified

Well ever since they brought back the show back in 2005 A man did told Rose whatever the doctor's here he bring death him I thought that was meant for disasters but no he literally had death following him.
Was I the only that was underwhelmed by this reveal? I never really watched the original series but to see him be defeated so easily was embarrassing and anticlimactic. They spent way too long building it up and it did not pay off at all.
"SUTEKH IS THE GOD OF DEATH AND BY HIS HAND ALL CREATION SHALL FALL INTO DUST AND ASHES AND RUIN" I mean...yup, that's it, that's Sutekh, that's all the essentials right there. Luckily he's not a difficult character to get the gist of. Where he treads he leaves nothing but dust and he finds that good. Still a fairly weird choice but I think they got away with it.
2:20 why is Sutekh quoting Kevin Conroy? Oy vey. I'll say it Russell T Davies is officially worse than Jon Nathan Turner. I guess they still haven't ruined Fenric and the Rani.
I think defeating sutekh was a difficult task to write off and it wasn't satisfying for sutekh to die like that. Plus the ruby's mom twist tho ideal was not good. I get that it's just a normal person being super mysterious but the leading of it and the execution was super bad. And the twist that sutekh was following the doctor ever since his defeat against the fourth doctor doesn't make any sense at all. Luckily, I've seen Monon Knight. I know who to call, here.
There is Atem, the King of Games.
3 minutes and 22 seconds of Ncuti Gatwa doing this 😰😰😰😰😰😰
Well ever since they brought back the show back in 2005 A man did told Rose whatever the doctor's here he bring death him I thought that was meant for disasters but no he literally had death following him.
Was I the only that was underwhelmed by this reveal? I never really watched the original series but to see him be defeated so easily was embarrassing and anticlimactic. They spent way too long building it up and it did not pay off at all.
he definitely isn't done. he was defeated TOO easily. i have a feeling he's part of 15's endgame.
Before the flood: the bat ?
How did the Meep find out about Sutekh?
Idk, he went to Egypt
I think "The Boss" and The One who waits (sutekh) are different entities
Whovians who watched the Pyramids of Mars: "YES! SUTEKH HAS RETURNED!"
Newer viewers or anyone who didn't watch Pyramids of Mars: "Who?"
I think them just saying he's the god of death hypes him up enough
"SUTEKH IS THE GOD OF DEATH AND BY HIS HAND ALL CREATION SHALL FALL INTO DUST AND ASHES AND RUIN"
I mean...yup, that's it, that's Sutekh, that's all the essentials right there. Luckily he's not a difficult character to get the gist of. Where he treads he leaves nothing but dust and he finds that good. Still a fairly weird choice but I think they got away with it.
My reaction to this was no way
Aaaaw, the return of Goodboi Sutekh; God of Death and humping the furniture.
😂
TRICKSTER MENTIONED RAHHHHHH
2:20 why is Sutekh quoting Kevin Conroy? Oy vey.
I'll say it Russell T Davies is officially worse than Jon Nathan Turner.
I guess they still haven't ruined Fenric and the Rani.
Sutekh is batman
Gonna say it, I don't think Doc 15 is bad; it's the writing that fails
Feel strongly that the Threefold God is the Gods of Ragnarok.
Do buy sutekh just waiting all this time!
The flux, which is not part of the universe would have completely destroyed sutekh!
What a reveal! Great cliffhanger. I love that we got mentions of the Trickster and the Mara.
It's a pity, he looks a good enemy so it's a shame they ruined doctor who changing. What a pity
I believed that Empire of Death could be better.
Sutekh had the chance of wiping out everyone at any time (especially during the timewar) but he simply didn't
Why is the pantheon of the Doctor Who Universe so damn evil?
Hot take: series 14 wasn't that controversial
The most controversial it got was space babies imo
Yeah it wasn't controversial but it's definitely mixed with goods and bads.
Devil's chord, boom, 73 yards, dot and bubbles, legend of Ruby Sunday are actually great
Church in ruby road, Space babies, rogue, empire of death were bad
@@dashtoroya2838 dude, you!ve never heard of average? Why does everyone think that everything has to be either good or bad...
The TARDIS blew up though?
Burley Extensions
I agree with you and Sutekh is look like a
🦇+🐶=batdog
Shame he was defeated so easily. I think the series should’ve ended with the dusting of the universe. Season 2 or a special to fight him
I want to get a Chihuahua and call him Sutekh
Pfeffer Plains
The concept of SUTEKH hiding on the TARDIS was cool but this episode and the next were quite poorly executed 💯
Garrick Inlet
Friesen Cliff
I am batman
At the very least...
I thought the cgi was really good, as well as the overall design for sutech. They did an amazing job showing it onscreen.
It's the only positive i can claw back from this episode. The overall quality of the show has never been lower.
not to be nitpick but why is your name Sutekh if your the god of death?
Legend? 🤦♂️
