Great Video!!! Cant wait for the Live stream on the 8th of may with Denton and myself on here.
Can't wait!!
Very informative and tastefully done; I enjoy your accent. Nice to hear something of the O'Donnell's; my ancestor was Michael, arrived in USA after flight of the earls in 1600's. I'm more than Irish now, but my independent streak reflects this part of my heritage well. Glad you're prospering doing what you like.
Thanks so much man!! the support means so much!
My mother's maiden name was O'Donnell and my grandfather was Owen O'Donnell the O'Donnell side has been in America awhile would love to know more.
Nice work!
Thanks man! looking forward to your next video.
I am a decendant of Calvagh O'Donnell grandson of Hugh. Thanks for video. I came searching for O'Donnell video. I'm glad this was here. I am also a Fitzgerald decendant: Elizabeth Fitzgerald Brown daughter of Gerald Fitzgerald 9th Earl of Kildare.
It's pretty cool to see my family history on here. A course I seen the family tree and the history on paper. But still pretty amazing.
I agree were kin I may be not full Irish my father was 100% Sicilian. I would love to know more and omg O'Connell and McConnell are also family and Coleman they founded Nantucket my family has shaped Europe and America i feel like a loser I've done nothing to secure a legacy.
A nice synopsis, thank you.
Great video, I love your videos and I love your channel. I really like learning about these areas of Irish history that I had never heard of before. Especially because I know very little about Medieval Irish history. Something I was curious about is, I recently read an article which said "The 16th-century Irish peasant was the worst-off in Europe. The Gaelic overlords were reducing the peasants to total subservience" and suggested that the Irish Gaels were better off under English rule. Since Medieval to Tudor Ireland is your area of expertise I would be eager to see your opinions on it.
I wouldn't say Tudor Ireland is my field at all. Am a RUclipsr looking to point people the right now, but I would be lying if I said any field is my field. I could look to find a answer for you and I can give you my view if you like.
taking out the consideration that obviously every generation tends to benefit better than the previous one due to many factors for example technology and trade as rights go the Gaels suffered more in the Tudor period as Gaels, If they anglicised then to a degree they benefitted by gaining more rights but The introduction of the feudal system of land tenure and land inheritance into the districts of Ireland did alot to break up the clan system basically turning potential strong cadet families or younger sons of chiefs into commoners with no political influence or inheritance, since the clan system was more social that feudalism, the laws against being either Catholic or Gaelic seriously hindered most, if the article is distinguishing between Gael and an Irishman then i'd agree.
@@IrishMedievalHistory your view would be much appreciated, thank you.
@@Clans_Dynasties thank you very much for your response, I found it very helpful.
born in Dublin never knew this about him
Ya, Dublin hides endless Medeival stories.
@@IrishMedievalHistory I've always thought because he was chieftain of tirconnell he was born there .
I was following his they were looking for his grave and was amazed at how they didn't know as it was recorded as a state funeral just like the great ONeills
@@IrishMedievalHistory he was born in lifford county donegal
@@finneire2081 which one are you talking about? Theres two of them. One born in the 1400s which am talking about and the 2nd is born in the late 1500s.
So I have tons of Kin on this video Comment section I gotta admit it feels good to see how the O'Donnell clan grew prospered and came to the bew land with the knowledge they were the descendants of the High Kings of Ireland, to immigrants in America.
Loving the content, both from you and the guests. The audio quality, especially the levels and differences takes has come along way, but it still could do with an extra pass to avoid hard cuts. The streams are very time dependent. The late at night ones would need to be on a Fri/Sat for me to stay up late. I know timezones are a pain to work around.
Would you believe I've used the same phone from the start for recording. I live in Japan with a diet of rich. No hand outs for me.
@@IrishMedievalHistory How do you edit the videos?
Thanks!
Yes and double yes and Nye's on the merchandise

I am O'Donnell love it
Ditto
born and raised in Donegal Town, never knew that he was born in Dublin, who were his parents?
There was an Irish regiment in the American Civil war and during the American revolutionary War as well
Very interesting history lesson.
I came looking for the answer as to what's behind the song Ode to O'Donnell Abú.
Quite a lot it would appear!
If the statue of Hugh had a Rickenbacker bass in its hand instead of a sword, I'd have thought it was Lemme! 😉
🤘💀🤘
Up 🇮🇪!!!!!
Having a clan name doesn't necessarily mean direct descent from the chieftain or king. People adopted a chiefs name as part of the clan. So if your name is o Donnell it doesn't automatically mean your are decended from Hugh
Yes I'm a bit passive aggressive 🙄. I would like to have a few copies of that map
Was the O'Donnell clan part of ulster?
Yes. O'Donnell was lord of Tyrconnell, modern Donegal.
Oh my I can't make out the clan on the map next to the O'c something and above it wise something starting with M. Isn't that Ulster?
Renaissance means rebirth. Again, I'm filled with useless information 🤣🤷🏼♀️🤦🏻♀️😂
💚🇮🇪
Oh no moonshot 🤦🏻♀️🥺😁 @5:34
4:21 that map is not very accurate , McDonnell weren't in Ireland at the time breifne hadn't existed for over 150 year's, there was West and East briefne which even United didn't even go that large ,no mention of the rump kingdom of Connacht,No mention of oriel, Duchy of leinster is pure fantastiy as The Duke if leinster is off by 3-400 year's it was still under Irish control with the king's of leinster still hanging on,macjordans were a small vassal of the Mac William uachter Burke's (mayo Burke's) as the Burke's we're dividend into 2(really 3) with the clanricade controlling Galway Eastof Connemara minus the North East of The county. Among other errors
Bless your eye sight. If the map that I used to point out where the pale is and where the North and South of Ireland is and later on where the O'Donnell is. Then I don't think I did bad over all working with time, the RUclips algorithm and the lack of books in Japan with no pay. Maybe when I get paid for doing this I can get someone to make me a nice medieval map.
@@IrishMedievalHistory oh no your fine, yes it does the job fine
@@mikeoxsmal8022 dont let him off, keep at him, you have followed the channel long enough to point out you deserve better maps 😉 he just doesnt have the same love for them as me im trying to work on him.🤣
Yeah I liked it
If I do get my several DNA tests done I promise not to staple the results to the forehead's of certain people 🙄🤣 okay 😀 even though it's a nice thought 🤨😳🙄😁🥺
