Hey Bob ! Killer box of blues, for sure ! I'm over in Japan, and now Thailand. Tokyo was pricy for vinyl.. picked up 3 good ones, though.. Bangkok prices, always much better ! Cheers ! Enjoy those Bro ! ✌️
Jt safe travel! Sounds like you are having fun :) Tokyo is expensive but man do they have some records over there! Keep em spinning wherever you are! Cheers
@BOB BRADLEY Thanks so much, Bob ! In Thailand with family at the moment.. will hit two good record shops in Bangkok soon ! Should be good, I hope ! ✌️
Killer finds....can't believe you were so disappointed with the condition of some of the covers and the albums that were just in sleeves.....the wax was minty fresh!!! My mouth dropped on a few of those....would take shiny vinyl over clean covers anyday. You need to do an update video with a final tally on the value of that box....think you made your many back....and some🤔 Cheers
Have you gotten a mono cartridge yet? FWIW, it makes a big difference. You can get another headshell for that Thorens and those mono recordings will sing!
Too many great records to comment on, but that’s got to be the outstanding deals of 2023. I totally agree about Wiily Dixon. So overlooked and ripped off. Cheers.
hey double b...man...some great stuff in that box...congrats....(and if you wanna put together what you think is toast, i'll buy them from you...i often buy dollar bin that is very toasty)...if you're interested just let me know...hope you are doing well..i'm just getting over my third bout of covid....now it's back to the music....peace always my friend...rocky
I'm jealous brother! Nice purchase for sure...that Son House butters my bread!!! All those years of clean livin' paid off Bob! Cool to see the old intro back as well!
Mostly 70s reissues. I have most of them. You can ask local dealers to save empty covers to sell you if they have those “in the back”. Some sellers at record shows have dollar boxes on the floor with common or beater LPs. Usually dollar stuff but if the cover is clean with beat disc then it’s a buy. You can ask EBay to send email alert for specific titles. Some sellers will list it and disclose in notes that it is COVER ONLY. Do this for the rarer titles from early 60s like Slim Harpo. That promo Chess is the rarest in that box.
Total score! - Son House and Hooker are worth it alone. Don't worry about that Sonny Boy. The reprocessed Chess/Checker records from that period that I have heard sound like garbaggio. Tons of reverb and uneven channel distribution. So don't think twice - it's alright. By the way, I am also the proud owner of a trashed to death copy of House of the Blues so I totally can relate.
Bob, a nice box score. Even the Electric Mud and Howlin' Wolf's New Album look like something that I would be happy to get, even with the cover damage. Thanks, Chris
Bob that was a really exciting video, I was on the edge of my seat at what was going to come out of the box next! If I were you I wouldn’t pass on any of the records without covers until you’ve played them as that is a blues education sitting right there (especially as the discs are clean) and you might end up keeping some of them or seeking out better copies. I think you got a bargain with this lot but it’s a touch of vinyl karma, a reward for years of diligent digging! Greetings from London.
Great video. Thanks for sharing the hunt and the finds. We all live for those moments of flipping through a box of records and finding grails and special gems.
Richard I might have buried the lead on this deal… the excello’s are slim harpo baby scratch my back and lightning slims rooster blues 😯 nice to have those for sure!
Spider John Koerner records are pretty good as others have suggested. Some stores place those LPs in the folk section due to the label being mostly folk stuff so always check there. Some even put Johnny Cash there usually cheap then.
Looks like you picked up some good stuff! I can see your disappointment with the vinyl without jackets but you can’t play the jacket? Enjoy the music.👍
It works best for those "altered for stereo" records to hit the mono switch on your pre-amp. They pull different frequencies to one side or the other and throw in some phase creativity - and I used to hate that back in the 60's. It just ruins it, IMO.
Nice work Bob. A 2 eye Son House is a tough one to source, let alone in nice shape. Impressive titles elsewhere. The lightnin country blues on Tradition is a favorite of mine. And yowsa Serve You Right to Suffer. Heavy Heads is pretty common but a solid electric blues offering. Fantastic purchase overall
I think I buried the lead Dom, rooster blues (lightning slim) and slim harpo’s baby will you scratch my back are in the box …disc only 😿 But I prolly should have talked about that a bit more lol
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL Nice see I was gonna ask about Rooster Blues. Something told me that was in there one way or another. I will have to check the angry mom sleeve archive. There's a chance we might have some old blues sleeves.
Some great amazing stuff. I’ve been a big fan of those 2 Blues, Rags & Hollers albums since I was a kid. Early white boy blues, heavily influenced Bonnie Raitt etc. Both albums recorded the same time In Minneapolis. Check out the Lots more first. It’s a stone cold classic. I have a number of their solo work too. Enjoy !
Great find and price! The Blues Rags and Hollers is great too. They are from Minnesota and played small clubs and had a graetfollowing in the Midwest. There is a documentary about them that is a must see. Give them a serious listen. I would love to have those records.
A great collection. I do wonder when they were collecting though. A few late 50's and 60's originals and then a bunch of 80's reissue stuff. I wonder when they were collecting. Maybe the 80's or 90's?
Possibly, the majority of the records in the entire collection were classic rock titles, so maybe he just picked the, up as he found them .. he was Definitely an older gentlemen.
The Excello lightning slim and slim harpo might be a tell… also most of the chess stuff was 60’s and the John Lee stuff was as well . I think he was pretty much collecting all along .
Dude! What an amazing blues collection purchase! Superb buy, Bob! So happy for you! A whole bunch of killer must have scores *and* you didn't have to hunt them all down one by one in nice condition. 😂I laughed so hard though during the part where you are carrying the box and looking behind you to make sure no one is following you. 🤣
The Hooker Impulse makes me salivate. Speakin’ of Hooker, have you heard “Hooker N Heat” the collaboration with Canned Heat? Seek it out. Your mind will be blown.
How much does cover condition play into you keeping or getting rid of a record? I just can’t keep it if the cover is ripped or has water marks…my ocd runs wild….
Just the angle it’s all good, my buddy is a wheeler and a dealer, no telling where they came from other than vague text messages… but I’m glad he got them :) cheers
$100 is a bargain.
Enjoyed the video my friend!! What a nice hall
Much appreciated!
Fantastic video 😁😊🎶 👏
Thanks Kenny!
As the guy at my local record shop says, “you can’t play the cover” you scored big Bob and your blues collection just got a lot cooler congrats
Thanks Dean, I’m excited about it for sure :)

Really happy for you Bob (if a little jealous, lol) - some great finds… enjoy sir!
Thanks Adrian, it’s definitely and interesting box of records, cheers
Nice bunch of records. Always good to find a surprise box of records
Yes sir!
What a cool picture for the thumbnail, Bob!

I started looking into the loose records and I probably should have spent more time on them in the video! Cheers
Wow! You got a great deal, Bob. Congratulations.
Thanks Daniel✌🏼
Give that Blues, Rags, and Hollers a spin. That’s great stuff. I think you’ll dig it!
Cheers,
Brian☘️
Will do Brian✊🏼
From 500 down to 100 is a steal. Love the spotter at the start! Looked like a stakeout.
some polite back and forth between friends and we got down to the bone very quickly :)
Wow talk about a bunch of hard to find records in one box what a deal congratulations
Thanks Ron, I’m pretty pumped about it .
You did pretty well. I have and enjoy several of those. Happy listening.
Much appreciated, cheers
Great finds! Definitely dusty gold! Man, mono Son House! Wow!
Nice haul. Worth the money.
Yeah I did okay 😺cheers
There is some really cool stuff in that box. I didn't see a single Herb Alpert record. 🤣
If only I had covers for rooster blues and baby will you scratch my back… 🤓
Damn. Very, very nice Bob.
Much appreciated ✊🏼
You can remove the tape with a hot iron and a paper towel in between. Goo gone removes sticky stuff, but masking tape is usually dried out.
Hell yea! Beautiful stuff
Much appreciated ✊🏼
The Morganfield McKinley is a GREAT Muddy Waters compilation. Hope you find the missing disk!
Nice bunch o records!!!!!.....Heavy Heads is my fave blues comp...I have an OG in processed stereo...lost my OG mono......the mono kicks butt!!
Very cool David I’m cleaning it up right now! It hits the table today :) cheers
Have you gotten a mono cartridge yet? FWIW, it makes a big difference. You can get another headshell for that Thorens and those mono recordings will sing!
Howlin Wolf is also my favorite blues singer, and the competition is stiff!
Facts Zeek!

Yes it is!

Ill have to pull that promo right away!
Omg. What a haul. Good for you Bob

It’s makes some of the agony of record collecting worth it right lol, cheers!
You made out like a bandit considering you only spent a C-note!
I feel good about it, I was pretty spooky until I started really looking though the box carefully :) cheers
Definitely some cool stuff there!
I was pleased with it Nicole, I appreciate you checking out the video :) cheers
I've never seen an Excello in the wild. Great score.
Yeah Richard, I was surprised to see them as well, my eyes are peeled for them now! Cheers sir!

will do!

I can see your disappointment with the vinyl without jackets but you can’t play the jacket?
Enjoy the music.👍
You do have a very good point, and more importantly turns out a few of the loose records are very important titles!

@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL - Their version of Black Betty precedes Ram Jam’s by 13 years.
Should be able to find Covers .
Well a few of them are super rare turns out, but I haven’t given up yet, cheers

I think you came out of that deal very well.🤩 That Son House album is quite the find.
Yeah I think I did okay, there’s a few records there I’ve been after for awhile :) cheers Melinda!
Not big into the blues but that a nice fat stack of records! Thumbs up! Trish
Thanks Trish!I appreciate that :)
Anyone want to recommend me a starter Jimmy Reed album? 😊
I never understood the problem with a cover that has some patina.
Nothing here to see....... move along!😂 Good haul though!
Exactly, cheers Michael :)
