I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the password. I love any tips you can give me!
anyone remember a simplier time when justin was the only guitar tutor on youtube? now you need to shift through countless drones to find any gold like he delivers.
I remember learning from him back when I was 13 in the early days of RUclips. I felt like I had made a friend and mentor in my formative years of learning an intimidating instrument.
Thanks so much, Justin. I'm in a 4-piece that plays Headhunters-era Herbie Hancock stuff, and I was very aware of my shortcomings in this genre. I just gorged myself on all 10 lessons in your course over the last two nights, taking copious notes as I went, and I feel much better-equipped now! Thanks again... this was a perfect primer.
Showing these grooves without changing the key is really useful, thank you. I'm going to watch this a few times. I'm going to show my daughter also. It'll be a bit above her head but it introduces the concept and hopefully, it will make sense to her.
Sweet, love your funk series. There are loads of videos/tutorials on almost every style, but I struggle to find good material on funk and gypsy jazz. Have been following you for over 8 years and still can find something new. Awesome!
Great stuff, Justin! Thank you. Really like the ability to create melodies and movement while staying in the same key. I appreciate your lessons and teaching style.
Thank you very much for these chords. Explanations very clear, shapes very useful. I know the common open chords and basic bar chords and triads, this lesson was perfectly what I needed to continue to grow. Thanks again !
very good lesson. it covers all the bases , from beginner all the way to an advanced player. i cut my teeth on funk way back when Tower of Power was a new band. i knew most of the cords even tho by different names or just no names at all, you explained them well and i learned something as well, and can now look them up in my cord encyclopedia.
The more I experiment with chords the more fascinating it gets - little pieces of one chord played as part of another in transitional progressions. I'm putting the finishing touches on my basic understanding of the major scale and modes and I can see the path of learning chord structure and function laid out in front of me.
really you can create whole songs and outstanding riff with this shapes, i often used this voicing in solos and that work in fact i use that in rockabilly style soloing
I'm on a mission tonight. I just gave $50 to Justin. That's one lesson guys. C'mon. If we don't support people like Justin, we only deal with people like the utility company. Don't just like it. Give something. He's got to eat, just like you. Don't keep taking and give a little. We all know that Justin is the man when it comes to giving of his knowledge and life. Just buy him dinner for 2 nights - if you don't have it, then borrow it... Think of a friend that's sick and needs a few meals each. Seriously. 513 people liked this lesson, but how many contributed - if each gave $20 - 20 lousy bucks - 3 drinks.
You are so cool...your tips and lessons are just great!!! Thanks so much...you helped us a lot (talking by myself but i imagine a lot of people got it sooo easy) xd
The role of any instrument in funk music, as defined by it creator (James Brown), is to basically be more percussion. James Brown told his band members to play it like they would a drum. The mistake I see people making the most often is that they are constantly playing 16ths notes through every measure. Either strumming or actual notes. You want to leave space and just add something to the groove. Go listen to the guitar in James Browns songs, it’s way less playing than you usually see in these videos. The band already has a hi hat, it doesn’t need you to fill that role. Hope this helps.
i love you / your selection and stile to explain thanks! please more relaxing chords SETS the best chords to make smooth relaxing songs/improvising thanks!
This lesson is really quite something, I mean really quite everything, usally my funk grooves get boring after 2 min but with this number of variations of chords i can just continue playing the same song for 1 hour and people will still stay in it
Hi! Great channel! I am new to guitar playing and also interested in learning to play funk, but I don't know if as a beginner it is right to start learning this style, or just go for something easier. What do you think? Thx!
