I just started punch needling and find your video so helpful. It's nice to see what not to do instead of just what to do. I like that you explained solutions! I especially like the idea of adding yarn around the edge of the finished coaster to hide the cloth showing through. It helps that you have a pleasant voice! Thanks!
Welcome to punch needling! 🥳 I'm glad you found my video helpful. I've been punching needling since Feb. 2023. So, (at the time of this comment), I just hit one year. My punch needle playlist captures my entire journey - ruclips.net/p/PLtSZhc2rNidfnT0BGtM9qMUjyrloWEn4c&si=OsOgydNpGV-ASUEB. It's been a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it as much, if not, more than me. Thanks for your comment!
Welcome to punch needling! 😃 I'm so excited for you. I hope you love it! Thanks for checking out my video and sharing your feedback. I totally agree...perfectly imperfect...I love it too! It's so comfy and one of my favs. 🙂
Those coasters are pretty. I like the way you problem solve. They say necessity is the mother of invention. You have a need, then a problem, then a solution. Good on you. The only thing for me is, I am a bit clumsy with plonking my cup or mug down and for me, I feel the punch needle coasters would be a little unstable for me and my cup might tip. Not that I have tried it but it just seems a little ..... not flat enough of a coaster for me.
Thank you for your feedback! 😀 They are definitely softer compared to a solid surface coaster, so I do understand your perspective. At first, I had the same concern - will it tip over? 🤔 I only use the 100% acrylic coasters and I haven't experienced any tipping with picking up/putting down my mug or tumbler. At first, it was an adjustment (in my mind) because it isn't a solid surface but once the mug or tumbler goes down, unless I move it, it doesn't move. 🙂
@@robynnikohl I know, I'll experiment and make a punch needle mug rug. A rectangular piece about 5"x4" and then I'm sure to be able to plonk my cup or mug down without it having to be so precise at putting your mug directly over the coaster. I'll make it in cotton and with a short loop. You have me thinking Robyn. Ta.
Thanks a lot! Hmmm...Since this is my first time creating a mug rug, I can only guess. Maybe it's the weight of the yarn? Maybe it's the type of yarn you're using? Maybe it's how close together or far apart your punches are? Maybe it's the height of your loops? My needle was at the third to last notch from the bottom of the needle. I'm not sure but hopefully I've given you some things to consider.

Very good job creating cute mug rugs. I make a ginger man and a frog and both curl a lot. What am I doing wrong?
