This is a very good way to put it, yeah. I played Uncharted for the first time years after its release, way past its prime, and I thought it was decent - not amazing, definitely not bad, just very solid, but noch much more. But while I was playing through it I kept thinking, okay, back in the day when it originally released it must have blown some minds, I can absolutely see why many people look back at it with fondness
It's one of those games where I'm frankly surprised it became a franchise. I suppose back then the spectacle was enough to make people over look a lot of the jank, but aside from the story I did not enjoy my time with it. The jump between 1 and 2 is like night and day.
The Uncharted games is one of my favorite game series ever. From beginning to end just leaves you wanting more. A fantastic series. If only we got a film with Nathan Fillion as Drake, then it's legacy wouldn't have been tainted

you made a really good point in the range of colour being used compared to most other games at the time. That's something I've never really gave this game the credit for.
Uncharted taking off back then sucked if you were a Tomb Raider fan, not because of jelousy or something, but because Crystal Dynamics abbandoned what made Tomb Raider cool and unique, and instead rebooted the series to be more like Uncharted, and thus these days Uncharted no longer gets called ''Dude Raider'' that often, but instead Tomb Raider gets called an ''Uncharted clone''.
Also ND ended Uncharted on a very high note which most of the franchises failed to do. Considering how TLOU2 went Uncharted really dodged a huge missile that may turn the entire series upside down
This is my favorite game of all time! It just has that campy feel to it that keeps me coming back. I also discovered this game bc of Uncharted 2, at their E3 event when they announced it. I looked up the first game, and was instantly hooked. Got myself a PS3 and bought this game back in early 2009
The intro song used is my honest to God ringtone. The uncharted series will always have a special place in my heart as I lost someone very close to me who also loved the games and I always think of them whenever I decide to do another play through. We were on the final dlc lost legacy when she died and to this day I cannot bring myself to play that game any further. That save file forever enshrined to her.
One of my, if not my fav Series. Love Naughty Dog. The Last of Us of course, but while i don't hate Part 2 (like some do), i think it doesn't have the replay value, that The Last of Us Part 1 or the Uncharted Series has.
Totally agree except for the balance part. This game has waaay too much shooting. You watch a cutscene of Nathan and Elena discussing El Dorado and Drake's expedition you turn a corner and oh! there were two dozens pirates in the next room. You enter a secret cript and oops! There is already a full mercenary squadron inside. Somehow.
I'm basically a freak because the only Uncharted game I've played the whole way through is Golden Abyss. Hoping for Nathan Drake Collection to get on PC
12:07 for future ps3 owners: you won't be able to aim as precise as he did in the video if you go with the 3rd party controllers. Most of them are 8 directions only. You should get an original controller. I've learned the hard way.
First time i played this was when i got a ps5, since ive always played on pc, and playing this on crushing was absolutely insane, and not in a good way like lets say doom eternal. It drove me absolutely insane and i dont even wanna think about playing on brutal difficulty, but even so I did really enjoy the game even with the difficulty and how old it is
Fair re review with more background then the original and opinions change or cinematic game praising sigh, would have preferred something else even stranglehold would have done but not bad as with any current review the editing and background details are excellent. The tone/humour is well done, fair motion capture for the time. They captured a lot. The island is a fair story element like Tomb Raider 2013 tried to do years later besides others around the time or any explorer type movie/game. RIP Pitfall. A Lost Expedition review would be nice. Good explorer 3D Metroidvania. I don't even like the genre but enjoy Metroid and this Pitfall game a lot. Combat for beat em up moves are fair but 2+ expand on it. Golden Abyss differences feel like 1&2 then 3's refinements or quality of life. Besides prequel, different Dev (Bend did good with Resistance Retribution and Golden Abyss) and well Vita features. Gyro aim it should have had. I hate the log or grenade use of motion too but when it Golden Abyss gyro aim is so good besides the hit and miss gimmicks on Vita yeah gyro aim is GOOD. Bad use cases for it are not. Heck the crossbow aim in Heavenly Sword intended or not to make it SEEM good I actually like it as non gyro made it hard to hit enemies in some areas. People that haven't played Red Steel 2 on Wii or other good games with good gyro aim and go oh I hate this and that use of motion well I hate QTEs and eh stick movement too but I got used to them and GOOD uses of it not just complaining going oh this sucks well analogue sticks weren't all for camera either or perfect. Idiot players. Go back to ma y games and oh the right stick does not camera but dodging in Knack, old God of War (same design) or using tools in Pitfall Lost Expedition or other games in different ways. People don't get inputs until they play enough games of different genres WITH the features and which Devs learned and what PSVR2 it feels like Wii 2006 controls of overcompensating again sure it may be better but it's really not and the lack of button balance and tracking limits any person familiar with motion like me laugh at the still pushing it too far when it's still not good enough to push realism but the Devs are too stupid to go oh motion reload when it's not worth it yet. So stop doing it. Idiots Devs, and idiot players not knowing good uses for it yet even with better motion control tech. The collectibles are fine. It's SHORT but I mean speedrunning or 20+ hours of garbage. I'd rather short then 20-100 hours of checklist, boring missions. Horro games do 20+ hours pretty ok for linear games with or without replays. Open worlds with trash mission design, and formulaic gameplay with RPG quest design then more minigames or even then many 3D platformers of the Mario/Banjo boring format pass on those for hour count. I can play Ratchet for however long and IF good not 2016/Rift Apart bad yeah replaying, secrets and NG+ weapon leveling or other tasks why not. 5 hours is not bad. I'd you want less exciting gameplay that's filler by all means. 5 hours is GOOD. People want length BUT DON'T UNDERSTAND OR CARE about quality clearly or complain but barely say anything just the bare minimum small talk nonsense towards a game. So 5 hours means nothing if their opinions are weak and filler is boring. Length and tedium is not worth it. Difficulty, weapon kills and other trophies. Why not. That's decent. 1 sure but 2&3 nah PS3 version. Ports. Sony sucks. Naughty Dog want to make new games ANY DEV wants to make. Anew project and not be messed around with. There is money and their minds seeking a creative project. I think they want the money sure but want to make a new project not waste their time. Make a small game well they haven't done that like Song of the Deep from Insomniac when they were independent. Yes Indie. SONY wants to resell it over and over and milk the IPs they are desperate. Forget it. All the PS Naughty Dog games most people don't go back to Way of the Warrior or others on older consoles after all. I can see why and how many want the old consoles or those titles only a handful probably. PS is what they are known for but even Sucker Punch's Rocket Robot on Wheels is still a good N64 game before Sly came to be. That and also yeah the Jak series is good but eh if it wasn't for how they present the missions which is why I don't like Sly 2-4 yeah Jak series sticks in there somewhat to me but not for replays. But they are fair open worlds as I hate open worlds (only 2 titl s or a few hub based games I do like) but beat enough of Jak 2&3 over Jak 1 to the spider cave and Sunset Overdrive or Gravity Rush as my 2 favourite open worlds. The Jak ones I tolerated but did the boss beaten or 3rd game at the boss. Even if Jak 1 & Sly 1 are more my types. Jak 2&3 are good. Sly 2-4 aren't my thing mission wise personally..the presentation sure but gameplay bored me or confused me. Hate the Last of Us and their current output. Also cinematic game PS4 2013+ output among all studios pass. 2017+ hated my PS4 besides Gravity Rush, Knack and Blood and Truth. Dreams was fair but it is a live service creativity tool still. Didn't play Concrete Genie. But still Nintendo Wii U/3DS/Switch 2018-2021+ or a Vita 2017/2022 I think got my two models, were my priorities. PS4 was the most eh to now PS5 the most PS4gen 2 and PS5 also a PS3 gen 3 experience at times. Sick to death of it. With eh design and graphics/story I don't care about for eh progression and missions. Ratchet and GT7 sucked so skip the rest too as they aren't of interest. Unless Asobi/Astro there is nothing but particular AAs/Indies to care about and even they are pretty average and tweaking engines but gameplay wise still kind of weak compared to older more imaginative ideas AAA or lower budget. Uncharted to me did a good balance but Last of Us besides being survival horror is just weaker at puzzles and other aspects of combat to me even compared to other horror games. It has a different direction then those but even still. Also it set every other Sony IP to be boring and formulaic. Open worlds and third person, similar heavy feeling. Uncharted I think balanced things better. But at the same time while I hate how heavy Nate feels in 4 to me Last of Us is even worse. The story isn't much and the puzzles are simpler in Uncharted 1, the boss battle is more scripted and easy to see it's faults but the journey is still fun. Even if the tutorial chapters you notice how the game feels and how platforming in chapter 4 or so with the up and down climbing or even other areas of the game is awkward to jump or snap. The combat is fair. Sure no stealth or grenade indicator of 2&3 but 1 is fair enough for what it is of 2007. I don't know about Killswitch or Dead to Rights aka Namco US cover based system but I think 24 the game or other re s exist and while I don't remember right now how 24 the game feels Gears/Uncharted popularised it and it feels fine to jump to, jump off and slide around 1 onwards that it improved. The themes, horror moments and setting is fair. Collectibles are fair. It doesn't have multiplayer so that's fine. Prefer 3's multiplayer story chapters in PS3 over the PS4 remaster collection. I forget if speedrunning in 1 I think it's a 2 onwards thing. It's fun, it has it's differences and beginning.
Naughty dog planning a PS5 and PC remaster for this? There's no need as the PS4 version does the job, i would like them to make something new as their games are good but they don't make games anymore it seems...
gonna get a lot of hate for this comment, but I played like 3/4 of this game in 2017 or so and had to stop (when the nazi zombies or whatever they were popped out) because it was so basic ideologically and mechanically. run-of-the-mill shooting combined with terrible linear climbing (I had just come from AC Revelations and Black Flag and had long been a fan of the PS2-era POP games so Nathan really had no chance) in a world that blatantly rips off Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider without even trying to do away with the colonialist/white saviour narrative just left a bad taste in my mouth. I tried Uncharted 2 and 4 and had the same experience, though I didn't make it as far through those before ejecting the disks. And before you ask, yes I feel the same about the modern Tomb Raider games, though I actually finished Rise & Shadow because they had ok exploration and stealth combat. The stories were dumb as fuck on those ones though - even worse than Uncharted, which is kind of impressive tbh. just my two cents.
Uncharted series was remastered for PS4 and was free on ps+. One of the best series PS3 And is fantastic on PS4/5. If you dont like then tps action adventure games aren't your thing befause this game does all 3. But everyone has their own tastes. I found RDR2 boring asf, slow and janky. But enjoyed the first game. Has some nice graphics, physics use. Tombraider newer games are good, but not as good as uncharted and her voice and grunts are fking annoying. Just stfu already.lol. They need to make another uncharted. Sick of hearing about TLOU. Naughty dog vanished and no we dont need a MP of Tlou.
This is how I feel about the latest Tomb Raider trilogy. Suprisingly, I love the first three Uncharted games, haven't played the 4th or Lost Legacy tho.
I own a PS3 and 4 and I have zero and will NEVER have a single ND game. They are the absolute worst developer ever. Don't assume everyone worships them like you.

Uncharted 1 is much like GTA3. It was a technical marvel back when it was released but has since aged like milk and been eclipsed by its sequels.

Having played all 3D GTA titles I have to say 3 hold a special place in my heart; the gritty atmosphere is unmatched by and other GTA

Naughty dog planning a PS5 and PC remaster for this? There's no need as the PS4 version does the job, i would like them to make something new as their games are good but they don't make games anymore it seems...
Great review but I think you get too sidetracked in the beginning, especially with the Jax segment, it felt kind of stretched out too long

gonna get a lot of hate for this comment, but I played like 3/4 of this game in 2017 or so and had to stop (when the nazi zombies or whatever they were popped out) because it was so basic ideologically and mechanically. run-of-the-mill shooting combined with terrible linear climbing (I had just come from AC Revelations and Black Flag and had long been a fan of the PS2-era POP games so Nathan really had no chance) in a world that blatantly rips off Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider without even trying to do away with the colonialist/white saviour narrative just left a bad taste in my mouth. I tried Uncharted 2 and 4 and had the same experience, though I didn't make it as far through those before ejecting the disks. And before you ask, yes I feel the same about the modern Tomb Raider games, though I actually finished Rise & Shadow because they had ok exploration and stealth combat. The stories were dumb as fuck on those ones though - even worse than Uncharted, which is kind of impressive tbh. just my two cents.

Uncharted series was remastered for PS4 and was free on ps+. One of the best series PS3 And is fantastic on PS4/5.
If you dont like then tps action adventure games aren't your thing befause this game does all 3.
But everyone has their own tastes. I found RDR2 boring asf, slow and janky. But enjoyed the first game. Has some nice graphics, physics use.
Tombraider newer games are good, but not as good as uncharted and her voice and grunts are fking annoying. Just stfu already.lol.
They need to make another uncharted. Sick of hearing about TLOU.

This is how I feel about the latest Tomb Raider trilogy. Suprisingly, I love the first three Uncharted games, haven't played the 4th or Lost Legacy tho.

I own a PS3 and 4 and I have zero and will NEVER have a single ND game. They are the absolute worst developer ever. Don't assume everyone worships them like you.
