Brilliant as usual. I can't help thinking that had we put more will and efforts into strangle our dependency of Russian energy, maybe even completely, and hardened sanctions, more pressure on companies to stop making business with them, the war could very well have been over by now. A lot better than buying missiles after all. Strange priorities. I really have no idea to what extent Russia could actually find equivalent buyers for their commodities but maybe it's possible.
? most of their commodities are sold to india/china and not the west now. It's been a complete switcheroo. BUT yes, some like HUngary still have insisted on importing gas/petroleum products from Ru due to price, BUT Hu also has bizarre or stupid pro-Russian and apologist type rhetoric re the war since year one till now. I'ts deeply disturbing bcuz it plainly openly undermines Nato, since HU is a Nato member, and consensus is required in Nato for operations. Hu needs to be kicked out if this clever politicization and subterfuge continues, which i guess it will with DJT in here in the USA in jan.
It is interesting how the sanctioning nations have always turned the screw far toi slowly. Allowing Russia to adapt, build new weapons sustems and ceeate the NK links. Thank you for your efforts and a great video. .
Mostly Russia gets yuan and rupees, but these exchange rates are collapsing too. I don’t see Russia’s partners being keen to trade using a ‘frozen currency’

They’re are two reasons: 1) the sovereign wealth fund and 2) leakages I don’t know the amount of either, but the Rouble is going Argentina. We need to calculate the rate of currency depreciation. Think 1923?in Germany.
Great news. One question if Bank of Russia has panicked and stopped trading/ buying foreign currency, how will they pay in say Yuan for the imports they rely on? I ask as a simple bystander. For avoidance of doubt, I hope their currency issue sinks the regime.
Brilliant analysis… The story of the Russian economy is the biggest of the year that not many have been speaking about. Even if Ukraine was to capitulate, Russia’s economic future lays in tatters… No business will want to invest there, Europe will go renewable and sanctions will remain until the current political class is crushed. He wanted a 3 day SMO instead he will get the splintering of the federation
yes, trusting putin for energy is, and was, a huge mistake. I know the scientists and engineers are finally getting through to the new generation so sustainable nuclear energy is likely to finally be implemented... we hope
It’s difficult to understand the low brow European response to Russian aggression when they are convinced that an embargo against imported food from Australia is essential while imports of food from Russia are relied on for food security.
The devaluation of ruble is good, but Muscovy experienced the hyperinflation many times in history and it never stopped or even slowed a single war waged by Muscovy. Moreover, the Muscovites can survive without their own currency at all, as it was under the Tatar rule when most coins were emitted by the Tatars, so now they can switch to yuan or rupee instead. The only event that can stop this war is the final collapse of Muscovy.
The Ruble is 0.0093 US$. Better then yesterday and better then tomorrow. It's also down against: China, India, EU, Qatar, Cuba, Zimbabwe... It broke 0.01 level, 17 Nov. 7 UTC this morning it was at 0.0088, now 0.0093 and tomorrow, 0.00 US$(?) How will RU pay soldiers when banana costs 1 million rubbles.
Johnathan, China and India buy the overwhelming proportion export of crude oil alongside a reduction in refined products (which may appear to be needed to support the war machines) What would happen to those importers if Russia lost the war?
I think that Putin saw the high quality of life offered to the Ukrainian citizens, and couldn't bare to see people living with a rich way of life. Unfortunately, Ukraine has had to rely on international aid (loans) to maintain its sovereignty thus far. I sincerely hope that Ukraine is allowed to remain in the driver's seat over their own economy and continue to maintain a high standard of living for its people. Dragging a country into such desperate circumstances has me realising that Putin is nothing more than a bully. Maybe that doesn't explain it enough, he's a sociopath. Hopefully Europe sees this as an opportunity to invest greatly in the Hyrvnia until it is on a level equal or close to the Euro so they could be welcomed into the union with open arms, and then membership into NATO soon to follow.
I've read and heard that Ukr's standard of living is not high overall for the avg person, e.g. outside of big cities. In any case, going forward, the economic growth will need ag exports as a foundation and that likely will mean Odesa port region needs true protection which will very possibly mean a western coalition of the willing getting involved finally, which should have happened in the past year actually, but WH/biden and Germany /FR/UK are too timid, namely the US would have guided it, but Biden wasn't equipt, he never was a leader type politician tbph, ever.
true but everyone forgets that RU has always been a monolithic commodities economy and nothing more. War economy fits w/ that and can keep going for years in theory

O the spot analysis. Economic shock. In a sense the stress internally seems to be a national inventory crisis, which may perhaps better be compared to slow dissolution rather than a crash. The end might be the same, but the differing metaphors could lead to false expectations of the time frame for deterioration to begin shutting down multiple critical sectors. Examples of “inventory” crises developing: for spare parts throughout the economy, especially in all forms of transportation. And though little mentioned, maintenance and computer software upgrades, especially for imported industrial machinery. The acquisition of machine tools likewise is limited; except from China they are virtually eliminated since almost none are now produced internally. This can be further generalized to declining inputs at all levels of the economy, not only manufacturing, beginning to affect productivity in various ways that a tight labor market militates against resolving. Nor are there any resources to escape these dilemmas through investment redesigning and redirecting existing facilities to meet critical shortages. The war time rebalancing of the economy which to a major extent merely ramps up an existing arms industry obviously exacerbates these problems, which themselves reflect longer term contradictions in an energy export economy. Short term market fluctuations do represent growing stresses that seem to trend towards deeper crises. But fear that barring the prospect of the political crisis being triggered by the recognition of a longer term structural economic collapse, it may take a while for the economy to FORCE the Russians to end the war.
would be true if that's what's happening but i'd guestimate a lot of speculation or manipulation in crypto due to this. I dn't trust crypto prices at all up here
The thought that Russia could profite from a devalued ruble is plain wrong. Russia has capital flow controle, so they could evaluate the money any time and any amount they want. But they cannot increase it at will. So if it would benefit Russia they would have done it a long time ago. Even in economic theories it would not make any sense. Since a devalued currency would make your exporters more competitive. Which basically means you have more jobs and higher employment number but at the cost of wealth. But the Russian economy is already overheating. So more jobs at the cost of less purchase power is the last thing they want to have right now.
Just as years of difficult sanctions are finally about to crack russia's finances, trump comes riding in to save the day on his white.. golf cart ? algo-comment.
Yes. They refused to pay in Roubles. Russia has built up a large amount of credit in Indian banks, which they can't use as they don't buy much, if anything, from India. :)
China pays by Yuan and India by Yuan and USE Dirham.. This is old news. But think a moment.. If they were paying in rubble then there would be demand for said rubble and price would be high.. lack of demand price drops. BTW the central bank along with new foreign currency regulations have artificially kept the rubble fairly stable up until now.. But.. oh those recently implemented secondry sanctions, they're bitting. Yeah, I know, you think this BS.. Do some research for yourself!
