biggest game changer for me with notion: having a “junk drawer” page to just dump random things in. super helpful if you just want to right down a quick note or throw a template with a feature you want to adapt into your own system or just whatever. definitely reduces the clutter. also, learning the shortcuts makes using notion so much faster (i use the * shortcuts for formatting text all the time)

Those are really good tips Emily!
For reducing clutter and improve security (avoid accidentally deleting data) I would recommend to have a backlog page to store all core databases and use linked databases everywhere else

Great video. A tip: install the APP on your phone with a widget to write down quick notes / thoughts.

This is super helpful! Love that you express alternate aspects of how using Notion can help you build or break down your systems, workflows, and overall productivity.

It's completely not just about the app but about how we use it, right? Glad it was helpful Dena!

I agree, learning formulas is great. That said, learning shortcuts can save lots of time as well.

Found your chennel and started thinking about Notion in a different way - I am 100% reliant on Notion now for my teacing work and realize I need to learn more. Despite using it all day, everyday, I don't use a single formula, roll up or linked database. 🙈 If I'm honest, I was a bit turned off at the beginning by many videos that were building systems for the most mundane tasks such as brushing your teeth. I'll be chekcing out your formulas video later today as you suggested and attempt to learn more.

yup full blown dashboard is overwhelming for me as well, my approach is simply have a simple column of pages for each specific topics, such as books, study, habits, and stuff, this is way easier to access information with my phone if I'm in a hurry.

Great video - yup, I can relate to all of these! The bane of my notion is all the extra properties I created!!!! It's fast to add the properties, harder to slim down 😂

Completely! they're so easy to create... But in the long run, the leanest system is always the most effective!

Thank you so much for this video and thanks to RUclips for letting you pop up in my suggested videos this evening. I am a software developer who discovered notion and thought it was just the best thing ever. I thought that because I develop computer software for a living that my intuition alone would lead me in the right direction. But I didn't grasp upfront that notion is geared to enable non-technical users to custom design their own systems. I have made just about every mistake that you mentioned here.
I look forward to forgetting what I thought I knew about notion and re-learning properly what the best practice would be in notion from you. I look forward to getting to know notion with your guidance and I've already realised that my knowledge and experience in designing applications with Microsoft .NET and SQL Server is not really applicable to how I approach the same problem in notion.

      This is awesome, welcome aboard!
Your programming mindset will certainly help you. You're used to see the step by step in everything, and in fact it's also something that's serving me a ton while developing systems for myself and clients.
You'll just need to see from others what's possible to do, but once you get it you'll fly solo in no time

Just one thing, notion doesn't have to be necessarily meant for productivity. I use many blocks to keep track of my hobbies, for instance.
