Captain Bluebear is a very famous character in Germany. From that book and also because he became a figure in children's TV. Very cool to see it translated into English, too.
I love your little counter at the bottom :) Captain Bluebear actually had a musical years ago here in Germany and although it was for kids I really loved it and still enjoy the music. I have to admit as a kid I only ever watched the tv show and have still not read the book. It's cool that is has been translated to english :)
I’ll be honest, I haven’t read it yet, but I thought the same things you did about The Pairing, especially with how it was discussed pre-publishing and marketed! I’m glad I watched your video before reading it so I can go in with more reasonable expectations of the book. Still excited about it!
This is such a fun video, love the cute graphic at the bottom keeping the tally!! I gave myself the challenge this year to only buy 12 books, one per month. And it's certainly forced me to reflect on my book buying habits and I'm definitely choosing my books more intentionally. I think next year a balancing the books project could be great to continue these good habits XD
Sliding into the comments two weeks late because I was on holiday when the video first came out and missed the video. You may remember my mentioning in your announcemebt video that my goal for the year was to try and get my physical tbr down to 100 by the end of the year. Well the good news is since the start of July I've read 9 books and unhauled another 6 books. So I'm down to only 102 tbr books (I started with 151) and I'm currently in the middle of 2 so I should get there soon 🎉🎉
I'm going to set myself a new goal on having all my tbr fit on the bottom row of my bookshelves by the end of the year (which is 2.5 full sized billy bookcases wide). I have 14 books of overflow at the moment but I can be creative in how I stack books to fit in the space if needed
Your book balancing inspired me to do something similar, so I have been trying it out over the last few months as well. I have fun book shopping and thrifting and want nothing to do with a ban. I have been very successful with this balancing as it is inspiring me to read a lot more because I am excited about my options as well as the opportunity to find new books. I have read 30 of my physically owned books since I started. While I’m not reading all the books I am buying currently, I am getting through a lot of them as well as the backlist.

The bar at the bottom of the screen is so satisfying. Looking forward to following this series :-)
