Bruce, Thank you for all your videos!! I have a Troy-Bilt 26" 2 stage snowblower this will be the 3rd season only but still had the same exact problem. Reverse 1 was going forward, Reverse 2 was working fine. Followed your lead and all is normal again. Again, Thank You. John
Good job Bruce. When I use to repair typewriters, we used alcohol to clean the rubber platinum (paper roller) and the rollers under it and on the holder bail. Paper transfers a film to them causing the paper to slip. The same thing with windshield wipers. Also alcohol will clean the metal friction plate. and make film free. The idea of the needle grease gun nozzle would be great in greasing the shift shaft and the tight areas on the unit.
You put the bottom back on incorrectly. The lower end of the cover gets inserted in the slots of the housing, then tip it up into the closed position. I, too, am curious if there is a way to make the friction disc have "more friction" to help prevent slipping. I've cleaned the disc off and tightened the lever cable, but the snow blower still doesn't have much drive power.
+Will Morton Did you tighten the cable at shown at the end of the video. That puts a bit more pressure on the disc. Yes a realize now that the cover wasn't clipped.
Did you know that the friction plate assembly can come loose.Found the large copper plated nut (Jam L-nut)holding the friction wheel support bracket to the friction wheel disc assembly at the bottom of the belly pan.The machine was making a lot of rattleling noise and was almost unresponsible.I managed to screw the nut back on before any damage was done to the snowblower. I wonder why the manufacturer didn't put any tread locker paste on it during manufacture because I think vibration caused the nut to come loose.
Telemarketers...lol. I always ask them for their home number so I can call them at my convenience. Funny...they never give it to me. Then I inform them...I'm on the no call list and they are in violation of the provisions of said NO CALL list and to give me their terminal number, supervisors name and name of the company they work for....They always seem to get disconnected...odd isn't it? lol Another great fix!! Hapy New Year my Northern Friend! Zip~
You did not mention cleaning the rubber friction wheel of deposits. Good video though. Any thoughts about putting a very fine film of belt dressing on the friction wheel? Would that help it to grip?
i have an old craftsman snowblower and i think the bottom works the same as this one i see so many snowblowers in videos that have chains and eveyrthing but underneath mone doesnt it only has a gear like this one but its missing the smaller gear it connects too..teh sbar the friction wheel was attached to fell out soemhow as one of the bushings on the side also fell out and the drive didnt work the auto drive im hoping this craftsmen is as easy setup as this one and i just need that small gear ..but on the websites it doesnt show the underneath on any sites ve come across yet so idk what the gear is called.
Great videos How long should those rubber drive wheels last. I have older generic snowblower. Last 15 years I've had to replace that drive wheel 3 times I've been told they should last forever Other wheel that the belts are on looks good
I think each snowblower is different as the pressure on the wheel is also different. Sorry I am not much help. I have seen older blowers with the original drive wheel.
most cheap snowblowers have these cheap friction wheel rubber drives that must grip the friction disc or they won't move, especially in heavy wet snow. The friction wheel has to be replaced because the rubber is coming apart. The rubber on the friction wheel has to be pliable able to grip securely the smooth surface of the disc which the engines spins once the motor is running. The disc needs to be cleaned of the rubber residue, and scuffed with some emery cloth, and then the new friction wheel adjusted so it can grip when you need to move the heavy machine into the wet heavy snow at the end of your driveway.
Bruce I have a Honda HS 828 Type TAS Hydrostatic snow blower I'm having hard time to figure out where the springs goes for the auger and the drive belts I never work on one these can you help me here thank you
Cub Cadet is exactly the same . Brake cleaner does a faster job. Also check your cable adjustment inside the spring. There is usually a turn buckle inside the big spring
My brother would put the speed lever into fastest and to control the speed by the go lever, which is wrong. I get his point but it's not built that way and that's why he got all that stuff marks on the plate.
I have the same blower and my problem is that the 80 thoot gear turn with all the friction disk and everthing but the shaft did not turn so its does not engage the wheel. I dont see how the gear should be turning the shaft? I can move the gear frelly to left and right... what is the problem?

The more slippage you get .... the more slippage you get ! Truer words never spoken!
Thanks Jim

Try a new drive belt.

I see things like that from time to time too.
Great Job Bruce.

+ZippoVarga They drive me crazy
so if you have idea where to get that small gear that the big one runs into thatd be helpful and a bushing that keeps the rod in place.
Wow I am sorry this is a seven year old video.
You did not mention cleaning the rubber friction wheel of deposits. Good video though. Any thoughts about putting a very fine film of belt dressing on the friction wheel? Would that help it to grip?
I have not done that good idea.
Could you lightly sand the aluminium disc or would that make the rubber wheel wear down faster ?
+not2fast4u2c That is a good idea!!!
Nice work! can't wait to see the test video. Ive dealt with the same issue on the same model before.
+patthesoundguy Next week!!!
another great educational video ......thanks and Happy New Year !
+tertessa Thanks
very good bruce, thank you...
Well done !! Happy New Year Bud!!☺
+805ROADKING You too. All the best
he allways has great videos

Right Sorry as I mentioned in the other coment this was 7 years ago. I hope you continue to watch.
Great videos

What did you use on the rag to clean off the rubber?
Well let see. A hydro carbon base liquid
Well done Bruce .
+Steve Rob thanks

Isn't that what I did. The wheel was OK
Bruce I have a Honda HS 828 Type TAS Hydrostatic snow blower I'm having hard time to figure out where the springs goes for the auger and the drive belts I never work on one these can you help me here thank you
Sorry that is a pretty difficult. question to answer on a comment. I am sorry
Toke me time but I getting done
Nice looking gear on those.
+John Strange Its a biigy
Nice work Bruce!
Thanks a lot Travis

Thanks a lot
The bolt through the sprocket that the weels ar on up over were your cleaning breaks to
In the backround I see that you a jd 160! Looks ALOT better then my 160!
It is a 180
My brother would put the speed lever into fastest and to control the speed by the go lever, which is wrong. I get his point but it's not built that way and that's why he got all that stuff marks on the plate.
You are right
happy new year, may you and your have a healthy year
+Phil falzone sr You to sir.

Can you adjust the wheel to get closer to the friction disk. there is an adjustment on on of the cables.
Are you sure that drive belt was good? It looked to be sitting awfully deep into the V of that pulley.
It is still running and this video is 15 months old.
Nice job mate
Do u drain the oil before attempting this
It depends on the direction of tilt. Generally no for me.
Hey bruce i have a old briggs 1976 that has low compression 65 psi what should the valve clearance be sorry for my bad english.
+Nico Stenfors This should help outdoorpowerinfo.com/engine_specs/briggs_valve_gaps.asp
+Bruce Pender Thanks i just realised that it has an compression release because it is a easy spin starting.
+Nico Stenfors Right. Only the older and smaller motors read more than 70 lbs because of the release.
So did it work🤔
I should have directed you to the next video.

Filming yourself is a hard thing to do. thanks for the comment
good video saved me $
Great !!! Good for you.
Thumbs up. enjoy your videos , I just posted one myself of shop
+Robert Perrigo Thanks I will check out your shop
I dont think you fixed it lol
+mike97525 Next week to the gear cable adjustment
yeah the rubber on the drive disc came from the friction disc which needs to be replaced
Telemarketers, yuck.
I hate videos where people can't be bothered to speak. Maybe it's my PC but other videos work.
