I love how women DJ’s make up a very small percentage of DJ’s. In your classes it’s such a high percentage of women DJ’s that you’re teaching the basics, history and the real technics. That’s wonderful to see.
A great mix is one where you don't even realize the next song has started playing until after it's been playing. Love watching these lessons. Keep up the great work boss!
Just watched this for the first time. I have two points: 1. Thank you for the information as I implemented it immediately into my mixing and it works super easy. 2. Mr Rob is one of the best tutors I've seen in action. Being direct yet enriches the whole class. It might look effortless but that is a gift.
Mad respect Rob. I am just teaching my 14 year old son to mix. Teaching him to best match and mix in phrases. It’s inspiring to me your level of patience and things you say. It helps me understanding how to show him the right way. The girl at 3:26 heard the key change. Good for her she has a natural skill that’s impossible to teach.
Rob, I absolutely admire and appreciate your passion. It's intimidating at times, but always genuine, and eventually becomes contagious. I wish all teachers were more like this l. Thank you, from LA.
AS AN INSTRUCTOR MYSELF ...... I TRULY LOVE WATCHING YOUR TEACHING AND THE STUDENTS!!!!! SIR , THEY ARE GETTING IT. ON TOP OF THAT WITH ACTUAL TURN TABLES. I COMMEND YOUUUU !!!! WOULD LOVE TO LINK UP.
I would play with turntables off and on in the 80s... it was 1992 when I finally caught on how to mix by matching up the snares. all my pretty learning was on some dirt cheap garbage turntables a 97 I got me a nice set of Vestax, only did small venues after-hour parties and stuff. 2013 I got a Numark mixtrack Pro 2. There's been more events lately where I've been mixing and blending like crazy but I still try to scratch on my pro track 2 like they're real turntables, I love this stuff is on RUclips now because there is a lot of stuff I was doing that I didn't know the proper name of it and maybe not have the tecnics down 100%, but you guys teach The Young and the old.... keep it up!
So much of this that I do but I’d never be able to put it into words to teach someone else. You’re an amazing DJ and an equally amazing teacher. These students are incredibly lucky to have you and I’m so happy to see so many females getting into this male dominated art form. And I loooooove that unskippable QBert record, “Superseal” they’re all using (with the flying hand puppet label). I have that and it’s been scratched to death, it sounds so muffled now - lol.
Great tutorial videos as always love to watch and learn the fundamentals I haven't touched my Numark NV controller in a while the turntable experience is a must if you want to learn the proper way.
After a long time learning beatmatching, The thing I struggle with is WHEN on the first song to start beat matching and transitioning on. Like which "one" should I start mixing in on? Sometimes its hard to find the breakdown or the right time to mix in So I've been playing around with that and trying to figure out my formula.
Hey Rob, I've been following these steps and teaching myself how to mix by ear with vinyl. It is very challenging but when you align two tracks perfectly it feels incredibly rewarding! I have a quick question that hopefully you can help me out with...When you adjust the pitch on your next song to properly get your mix aligned, do you gradually move the pitch back to zero once you have successfully made your transition? If I have my incoming song set a +2% to get proper alignment, should I let the entire song play out at +2% after my transition or should I gradually move the pitch back to zero in small increments so it isn't noticeable while the song plays out? Is there a standard practice with this or is it all dependent on what song is next and if the +2% pitch will help or hurt the following transition? I started out my first year with turntables almost entirely scratching with mostly DVS but your videos have inspired me to invest in vinyl and properly learn all the possibilities of what two turntables can do. Thanks for sharing your views and history of this art as well as being an incredible teacher!
The best way to learn how to mix is get a crate of vinyl unknown to you and mix them. Keep practicing that and that's how you become a master dj. Mixing with different genre. It's going to take time but once you master it then you become a master. Tip use your ears....
Cute girlies! But they seems little bit tired...Not in the mood kinda. Cool lesson! Very important aspect of deejaying...That's the core, the essence of DJing actually. Sorry for captain obvious :)))
Just curious rob, are you teaching your students the BPM counting?, you can't lock 2 songs that are 108 bpm and one being130 bpm with one or the other sounding too slow or fast. They would have to gradually work their songs up and down the beat line to move up and down, you also wind your crowd up and wind them down this way.
For those looking for the loop mixed with The Creator...you're welcome! And thanks again, Rob Swift! ruclips.net/video/hl4r9XQ2PjA/видео.html&ab_channel=MethodTical
am I the only who thinks that transition between nina sky song and the next one is kinda shitty ? It was more about the lyrics kind of clashing and not going along.

Great teacher
I've watched this about 100 times.... very helpful !
Good to see you teaching!
I'm not even done yet but @ 5:10 you had me laughing so hard when you commanded them to clap.
Rob your so dope homie, I been binge watching your videos! Queens in the house.
One of the biggest "coined" in rule to know...YOU HAVE TO FULLY GET TO KNOW YOUR TRACKS BEFORE YOU MIX!
I used to love getting new vinyl and testing it out in the club without trying at home *shrug* felt organic
hi Rob thanks for sharing this!!!! great videos. Cheer from Argentina!!!!
Rockin them Pete Rock and CL All Souled Out EP jams👍! Miss them days😎
What’s the name of the track being mixed with the creator near the end of the video?
Not all songs harmonize with each other, you can hear it at the transition at 4:30 The most important thing for a DJ is to know the Music he plays.
The program Mixed in Key helps a lot with that.
Just love watching your vids mate , so informative thank you
great stuff
Black girl and blonde girl on the right, they got the beat. Their bodies don't lie.
Great teaching Rob

5:12... Yo I KNOW I have watched this video close to 10 times since COVID hit this year, and EVERY TIME I see this part I laugh! This is great! 💪🏿
Great work and teaching excellent.
This is awesome! It's so inspiring, like so many wise words and precious advices :) You've become my top RUclips mentor man :))))
Best class ever!!!!
New flames 🔥🔥🔥
Do we get to see their final sets?
I'll try posting them but I have a feeling the students will use music that will get flagged by youtube :/

You should count phrases... 8bars is one phrase, most of the time when a phrase is done, a new one with other elements start
You deserve more subs man!
Got a question - are all the songs pretty much around the same BPM so the adjustments are minor?
People ask me where did I learn and I tell them Rob Swift!
I work not to far from the new school 🙏🏾 thank you for posting your lessons ❤️

I like to move it back to 0. Just because you would always be stuck at the same bpm if you didnt

Anyone know what track they're dropping over The Creator?
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Oss! Sensei.
the track starts with 1 stroke, the second disc starts with 2 strokes. can not mix 1-1, they should be put in 1-2 at the same time
Fire transitions Hahahaha
Are there certain type of sounds that fall on to "1 and, 2 and , 3 and or 4 and" ?
You would hear that in the songs your playing.
I love working with you and I wanted to participate
The fundamentals, kids. The fundamentals.
WORD!
tracklist?
how do i sign up for your class?
@erick summerville probably just google it. According to Robs’ response to another comment it’s at the new school in nyc 👍
Wait, what school is this? I distinctly remember no X-ecutioners at my lest school!
This class takes place at The New School University.
@@djrobswift i appreciate you throwing these videos online
Rich Vela yessir 🙏🏾

😂
DJ-ing is finding out how to understand that 1+1=3.
(1st track plus the 2nd track produces a 3rd track)
am I the only who thinks that transition between nina sky song and the next one is kinda shitty ? It was more about the lyrics kind of clashing and not going along.
Democrat convention LOL!.
