The amount of care and knowledge EZBOT brings to the Table for Elektron is so underrated. Is rare to see such an enthusiasm toward a product let alone a whole brand. ELEKTRON, endorse this Champ and bring him in your ranks. It would be the best HR Investment you’ve done in a long time
I’ve been an OT owner for almost 12 years now and every time I watch one of yr vids, I learn something new. It is certainly the most esoteric devices I own but I love it and would never consider not having it.
As simple as it looks in Ezbots hands, and always with instant results, I got mine as a tool against alzheimers. I go very slow with each step and try not to forget anything, I always do forget a step here or there, but that is fine ... a fascinating, neverending learning process anyway..
Oh no, I am fine, I hope, but thanks, I meant it as alz prevention tool, its complexity through layers and all, it is a fascinating instrument even just standalone... great tutorial!
the octatrack is a tough egg to crack.. has taken me years and still learning new things. Keen to see your ideas as sample mangling is my favourite part.
Dude, your pedagocic skills are off the chain here! This is so helpful, and timely since I wannna take the Octa outside someday. Thanks, saving this for later reference.
Love this format a lot!! Love love love. Sharing the education. Allows those of us that have invested in lessons to literally pay it forward and simultaneously allows you to post a recording you have already and multiply the revenue by posting it out on RUclips, thereby hopefully increasing those that can see it, catching the YT algoRYTM :) and hopefully your profit. A genius model, no? 2 for 1. I know a lot of work goes into the recording and editing, but seems like an unlock. Great work Mathew and thank you!!
Without your videos, i dont even dare to consider buying an orcatrack :) Mate you are awesome !! Hopefully i can get one thist year and dive into your videos.
thank you so much, I just bought the template from you in sign of appreciation because I don't like to pay every month, love you and keep up with this loving and benevolent good job, love you man
Just bought an MkII used and I had no idea... Was just looking for a good sampler and better groovebox. Saw one for sale with your magnet on it, watched a couple of your videos -> 🤯. Feels like a new era.
I'd love to see pre-recorded "Elektron" lesson packages that are available for purchase or available on skillshare or something of the like. These lessons could walk someone through how to make a track using a sample pack provided. Maybe even Elektron would hire you to teach their classes. I've watched your channel for years and it's the greatest Elektron how to channel out there. Thank you again for your expertise and patience with your audience.
thanks! i recently got the syntakt, digitone, & digitakt. may work my way up to the octatrack in time. this video helps, as I really am looking for ways to mangle my samples (i'm currently using a lofi MICROGRANNY).
When you realize you are looking intently at your computer, your OT, with a dad hat on, and nodding intently, at two dudes who are also looking intently at their computers, their OT's, and nodding intently. Am I in a cult? Great video looking forward to my next OT session after some studying.
The guy Ezbot is teaching, I have the same facial expression when I turn on the OT after a few months away from it. It is a serious machine with endless possibilites.
Maaaan. Certain things just happen when using certain devices. It's crazy to see different ways of thinking in regards to certain hardware. When I see the workflow of the OT or DT I can envision my IDM/glitch-hop ideas coming to fruition, and other things just from the way it works. I didn't feel compatible with MPC. I learned how to use it, I just really didn't enjoy it. I enjoy the SP404MK2. Once I get my hands on a Digitakt or Octatrack I'll know how to use it from your videos. Thanks!
Yes, you do want a Syntakt. Yes, you do want a Digitakt. Also, yes, you want an Octatrack, because they are the Holy Trinity of electronic music making.
Thanks for doing this video. Question: I have OT MK1 - and still learning it among 10 other hardware boxes, which is insane; (I had a OT-MK2 but sold it, not sure why), but do you think its worth getting a MK2 again, is there any benefit to justify the price around $1000 or so. Is it quicker to get around on, etc. thanks.
I prefer the MK2 for it's button shortcuts, screen, and balanced I/O. To me that's worth the sticker price for a speedier workflow on a box I use daily.
Thanks for the input. I agree, the labeling is easier to see also. It's an incredible box I will always want to use and keep, so I will definitely look into getting the MK2 again.
Hii! I really love your work and it's very easy to learn octatrack with you. I only have a question how do you manage gain using thru machines? I'm working with a Digitone and a Octatrack, but i don't know what are the best values to have a nice gain stage, not too much volume or keep it low. This is driving me nuts haha
@@EZBOT_ Ok thank you very much! So you have to keep your master level low on your Digitone. Do you usually keep your levels on the Digitone patterns low? Like never go above 100 on Amp Level and things like that, I feel that it's so easy to clip the octatrack if you aren't be aware about
Thinking of getting an OT and I’m really curious about these, if anyone knows: (Edit: 2. Yes 3. No Still curious about the first question) 1. Can you live record a couple bars EZ style but have it constantly override record so that whenever you move the xfader to the right it plays a new/fresh recording? Or must you manually arm the track each time? 2. Can you have it set to play chops of a recording that has not happened yet? e.g. whatever recording I make on this track, play chop #3, #8, #16 of it on these specific trigs? Or must the recording exist before you chop it? 3. Have they updated it to be able to copy patterns on the fly without stopping yet?
Wow, that was so cool! I would be interested in some private lessons in the future but are you willing to work with absolute beginners? I own the Digitakt and can do just some basic stuff on it. I would love to get the Octatrack, it's not even the money issue but I am afraid that I'm just too dumb to understand how it works... And also - can you send the video from the lesson afterwards so that we don't need to make notes during the lesson?
@@EZBOT_ Just placed an order for the OT. You should know that YOU are responsible for it ;-) I will probably be contacting you at some point about the lessons. Cheers
11:07 - this is one of those things that I feel like shouldn't be allowed - assigning a sample TO the recording buffer slot. I've done this accidentally and couldn't figure out how to get the rec buffer back (or was it even gone?).
The recording methods and combination of machine types is what confuses me the most, if I use thru but I have another listening and another auto assigned I’d have it doubled and could theoretically use that as a loop base right? But then what’s the deal with pickup machines? Lol
I think the most useful advantage of pickup machines are that you can basically record a loop organically and have that loop automatically set the tempo for everything else. Aside from that, I don't know why you would use them... I think they overdub as well, which could be useful.
@@user82938 I tried using one and I couldn’t figure why it kept getting louder and more distorted until I realized it was overdubbing itself with a regular trigger (not one shot) my guess is that it could be used for live looping but the rec setup would need to be changed manually anyways
It's not really the slow lesson try yourself and make sure the student gets it??? The student needs to try on his own and confirm it works as he like to make it worth while, in this way you forget most of it

dope vid! didn’t know know you can cue couple of tracks together to sample! nice tip 😮

which alternative more modern tool is available to do comparable sample mangling?
The Digitakt can do quite a bit other than that you are looking at tracker of some sort or going into modular

can a software update to do stems separation from audio recorded samples be expected?
No :/
Jesus Christ, he's fast! Take a look at his neural kinetics, they're way above normal.

Very cool, but I found that when recording on a buffer, you can not play the same buffer in reverse on an other track. It just does not start.
Try microtiming the playback trig a hair later than the recording
