I think they mean don't just come in and ask how much is a sleeve lol. Cause its varies depending on what you want to get. Once they know what you want, then they can give you a better idea about price.
Most artists have an hourly rate. Once you start getting pieces of the sleeve done, you'll get an idea of the total cost. Its impossible to figure out how long it'll take until you get going. I had a piece done that we figured 4 hours, and it was closer to 6. Its about 45% of my forearm. So if it fluctuates that much for the whole arm, that could be like a difference of almost 6 hours for the whole job. That's a huge difference.
They literally only mean that it is IMPOSSIBLE to estimate a sleeve before you have the design in place. That's not just for a sleeve - that goes for any tattoo. But sadly there are a lot of people who don't really care what they get, and will ask up front "how much you do tattoos for?", when it's a) not possible to say until you've got the design, size and placement down and even then it's a ballpark number at best, and b) that's just disrespectful if the first and only thing you even care about it is the price.
With regards to being intoxicated, I'm kind of surprised they didn't talk about how alcohol will thin the blood and make it harder to take the ink at full capacity.

My only issue with the price thing is if I go to an artist wanting a tattoo.. and they take the time to draw something up, we figure out placement and color.. it feels like I’m wasting their* time if they say it’ll be 1000$ but I only have let’s say, 800$. Especially for people who have to take time and save. I would never haggle for less but I hate feeling like I’m wasting the artists time by going through the entire process but realizing it’s more than I have. Then again it’s hard knowing how much to save, how much wiggle room to account for and then tipping on top of that. It’s a whole thing and it always has made me anxious lol..
I waited years to get tattooed for this same reason. I had no idea how much it would cost. Now I have 3 so I feel like I finally can est on my own pretty good and know what i'm willing to pay.
Everyone I go to charges by the hours and ive gotten a lot of tattoos so where I'm from about 100$ an hour is fair or if it's an apprentice $75 an hour
I once was getting a tattoo and this couple who had no tattoo walked in and they were talking to an apprentice and she was going to tattoo a six letter word on him for 200$. I felt bad for them
E.g on Inkmaster there was a guy with no tattoos and Oliver Peck kept on insisting he should get tattooed to be respect as a tattoo artist. An acquaintance of mine worked at a tattoo shop as a piercer and his boss, who was a tattoo artist, had no tattoos. All his employees found it odd and didn't take him seriously...

J’espère que tu es heureuse dans ta nouvelle vie et je veux juste te dire que je suis vraiment heureuse de voir ton parcours! J’adore ce que tu fais et je te trouve incroyable! Ne lache pas et fais attention à toi xoxox
THAT'S. NOT. HOW. IT. WORKS! They come up with a plan and give you an estimate after you've discussed what you want, how much space you wanna cover etc.
No the thing that we explain is that on a larger scale project it's very hard to give an estimate that's gonna be accurate and people wants exact number and it's impossible number of time I said about 2000 and it end up being more 3500 and people get very mad
I've gotten several tattoos from the girl on the left, Alisha Gory, and that's not how it works. You have a consult, they review your idea and they either tell you their hourly rate and how many hours they think it will take them, or they just give you a price for the project. With Alisha, she's always hit the nail on the head for how long it would take her, or she ended up doing it faster than quoted.
Sabrina Nolan most want a ballpark range. You can normally guess about how long it may take and you can always disclaim that the estimate may be more or less and I will keep you updated as we go.
Isla Gurney might come off as weird but it’s kinda cool seeing an asian woman with thick hair! I have thick hair but I usually see girls with thin hair.
@Sexy Girl Um just because I said one of them is beautiful does not mean I was saying the other girl was ugly or anything. Complimenting one person isn't putting other people down fuck off out of here with your negativity...
Everyone upset about pricing- usually your tattoo artist will ask “what’s your price cap?” And you two go from there. I got a really beautiful arm piece that I was at the most willing to pay 350 for, and my tattoo artist rendered the drawing and sizing accordingly and it turned out being around 200 once all was said and done. Also- your tattoo artist might also gauge pricing on how much they like you; if you’re a heinous, hateful customer they might make you financially compensate for being an asshole so just be cool (200 might become 250). Most artists also overestimate their pricing so it’s kind of a pleasant surprise at the end when you get 50 bucks knocked off of what you were already willing to pay. Remember- not only are you paying for the artist’s time, you’re also paying for the supplies necessary to tattoo you!
My tattoo artist did all of my dad's tattoos in the last years of his life, I got about 1/3 of my thigh covered with a blacked out Raven for 200 before tip, very beautiful. I think relationships can be important here. Also from the US
@@meltedcrayons5729 it's someone's artwork that's going to be on you forever. If you're going to a shitty scratcher with a tattoo machine charging for good artist rates I understand but good artists should charge what they charge. They're making a living doing this and it's not an easy skill. It's pricey but what isn't that lasts forever?
I may not be a tattoo artist but I am a personal trainer. People come to me for my services as well & I don't understand the whole not asking for price thing. It would be awkward to finish training someone then tell them a price they couldn't afford. Imagine you're at a clothes store and see some jeans you like without a price tag and the cashier goes "it's either you want it or not." Then the jeans end up being $2,716.
They mean not asking about it up front. A tattoo is not a ready-made pair of jeans. It's more like very specific jeans you want designed for you. You can't estimate a price of a tattoo before discussing the size, placement and design. At best they can tell you their hourly rate, but that's going to be worth diddly-squat, because if they don't know what you want to get done, they can't tell you how long it might take. AFTER you've discussed the design and everything, of course it's fine to ask how long it might take and how much it might cost you, because you need to know if you can afford it. But even then, you need to keep in mind it's a ballpark guess at best, especially for multiple-session projects like a sleeve - how long it takes not only depends on the level of detail of the design and the size, but also how well you sit during the tattoo, how much you bleed, etc. For example, if you have a low pain tolerance or unintentionally move around a lot, that's going to slow it down. If you're someone who naturally bleeds more, that might make it more difficult for the artist to see what's going on, so that might slow it down. So you're never going to get a fixed price on something like that, even less so if that's the first thing you ask with no context.
Squishy Muffin they dont say that it is always going to be a surprise. But it is so strange to ask a price without even talking about the tattoo, the size the design etc etc. affffter you can ask about an estimate
It’s when people are really vague. How much for a wolf tattoo? Ok where? How big? What style/color? How much for a sleeve? Ok well a sleeve with all realism is gonna cost like 300% more then just an all tribal all black design. When your very specific and when you and your tattooist/tattoo artist decide something very specific they’ll give you a very close estimate. But you’ll want to be flexible because if you set a price they’re likey to play it safe with that price they might rush it might take longer then expected then it’ll go over their price range. They may make it smaller or add less detail for the same reason. Just plan on spending allot if you have $700 to your name don’t expect a sleeve in one visit or it’ll look like shit. I’d have at least a half a G to spend to get a single tattoo the size of soft ball. At LEAST G for a half sleeve of something simple. But that all depends on the artists skill, experience and simply what they choose to charge. It’d be like me going to where you work and saying how much would it cost to get me down to 25% body fat. Wouldn’t you want to know how hard I work? How many hours in a week I’m willing to put in. What my current body fat is? What kind of diet changes I’m willing to do. Even with that knowledge would you be able to give me a realistic estimate? Bleeding and how you sit for that tattoo would be like me going on a binge one day. You just don’t know how it’s all going to play out. Sorry that was long. I wanted to describe it well and genuinely. Have a great day!
You know beforehand how many hours you'll spend with your client, so you can give a fixed price. It's closer to someone sending an email to you and asking how much is it for them to get fit. No details on what they consider "fit", no information on their past or present health, not even a picture of how they look now, they just want to know how much does it cost to get fit. While you might have ideas already that work for a lot of people to get started, tattoo artists don't even have that luxury.
I don’t think it’s asking the price exactly it’s more so trying to bargain the price I mean that would piss me off. If I was an artist and you wanted a price after I see what you want cool but if you try to low ball the price that’s not cool.
There was lots of new info I hadn't thought of! Choosing one sleeve style...oh my god, it's just such a heart stabber, but I hear ya. I want to seek my apprenticeship soon. Thanks for all the tips, girls!
I was wondering if you guys could do a video with the artists on the best way to prepare for a full day sitting. The dos and don’ts, what’s rude, tips to describe with the pain ect. I’ve got a full day sitting next month and low key freaking out but very excited! Love you guys
I always do full days. 8 hours. One break. The first half of the day is fine but the second half can be rough. You’re all out of endorphins, you’re starting to swell and bleed at every new line, you’re tired so it hurts more. I would recommend lots of liquids and sugary drinks with electrolytes to replenish how much liquid you’re gonna lose. Also plan to feel physically shitty for at least a week and depending on the area, unable to live life normally. It’s a lot of trauma. For instance I did both my shins one day and my ankles got so swollen for almost two weeks I had trouble walking or even sitting without elevating my feet.
Get a good nights sleep and eat a good meal before and just be relaxed as possible. Try and not take too many breaks because my ads to the pain in the long run and be mindful what you doing the few days after. I had a thigh piece go to 7 hours and I couldn't even put weight on it without it hurting.
Lots of sleep before hand eat a big meal beforehand not too close to appointment time of course and bring a couple Gatorades or Powerades to drink during and try and take as few breaks as possible everytime you start back up its gonna hurt more
Oh and make sure to wear extra deodorant and alot of times i will bring some with me and reapply during a lunch break bc i sweat alot during long tattoos sessions
I think what she meant by “don’t ask for a price”, she meant to not ask for the price of a SLEEVE. Every sleeve is different, some are more full, others not so much. I think she meant to not ask for the price of a sleeve in general. Find the design of everything you want, show them, then try to discus a proc
I may be ignorant, but I do ask for the pricing. Basically just ask if they charge per piece or per hour. Then ask for an estimated amount of hours. I know it can take either more or less hours, but this way I can calculate in my head about how much it would most likely cost me. Comes in pretty handy if you can pay for what you're getting. :) The 8 people that have tattooed me so far, luckily never made a big deal out of it and were all pretty chill. Just be respectful and you'll be good.
First of all, Idk why y’all just talking about the dark haired girl. The girl of the right is GORGEOUS, her accent is adorable and she is a sexy woman. Just saying... show her some love...
The main thing with asking price is wanting to be able to have enough money so that it's not an awkward situation where the tattoo is already done and you dont have the money for it. thats mainly what i want to avoid
I love how different the styles are but both have very beautiful and feminine ink. I love the bold lines and intricate patterns Alisha has and the detailed realism with Sabrina's.
@@johnathanmiranda9065 so i should deal some drugs and run some women just for thr moneyz. Doing something while you know someone isnt in their right mind and you know that them being intoxicated will cause problems just for the money is ridiculous.
most of my tattoos are basically a patchwork of different designs that stick to a theme, left is family right is interests upper body left is b&w right is colour whereas my legs are swapped so the left is coloured and the right is black and white :D I love it because I see myself as a patchwork of different experiences
Thank you for talking about copying tattoos. The tattoo I have has a lot of meaning for me and I was so upset when I saw someone copy it with another artist.
@@Selene666 ??? You guys are the ones that need to be polite, judging people for the tattoos that they have, just cause you are scared of the idea of someone getting a tattoo on their genitals doesn't mean it's wrong of it's some fetish thing, learn to be respectful and tolerant, also be open minded for God sake, stop the ignorance
___pphh yeah but the tattoo artists always put their own style into it so it’s not like they are copying the tattoo. That’s what my tattoo artist did cause I got a snake with roses off of Pinterest. It’s the same idea but completely different style
Unknown no. Something like roses is just a generic thing that anyone can do bc a Rose is a real normal thing. But if the image you took off Pinterest is super unique, that’s different.
The first tattoo I ever got was a neck tattoo! hahaha, my artist called me crazy and then agreed to do it, almost 10 years later and no regrets :) at the end of the day, it's up to the individual to make proper life choices, omg and especially for foreign text tattoos - not the tattoo artist haha.
regarding prices; i first told my tattoo artist my idea and how big i wanted it. Then they gave a pricing after i asked if they could tell me how much it would be . just cause i wanted to be respectful of their time. For me to make someone make this amazing drawing for me and put time into it without me knowing how much it would cost me seemed to me, disrespectful. I want to make sure i can pay you for your time. And they really understood me. I think you can try and ask for a lower price but don't put on the table what you think it should be, but try to ask on how much they are willing to go down. Nothing forced though. If they cant go down its still fine. We are not forced to get a tattoo from then and the tattoo artist is not forced to make it cheaper. That's at least what i think and has been working for me.
I love how honest you girls are, it helps me as well for the future because when I'm older I want to become a Tattoo Artist as well. Your advice helps thanks.😊
I worked with a guy who got a rose on his neck for his first tattoo, being that I was one of the more heavily tattooed people at work I told him “it looks great but it’s a ballsy move”. Luckily it was done well so hopefully he doesn’t regret it later.
@2:30 yeah but when you look at the menu you can clearly see the price and decide if its worth it or not. Imagine if the price of the burger wasent in the menu and you had to ask the waiter ,''How much is this burger ?'' and the only answer you'd get is ''you know , its kinda rude to ask about the price , i mean you are paying for the years of training our cooks have,soooo.... just be ready to pay an undisclosed amount of money for it and deal with the bill later, and if you dont like it ,''order something else'' ''*''
That’s not at all how it works. There talking about someone walking in and asking how much for a sleeve. If you talk them about what you want to get tattooed size, location and style of the tattoo they’ll give you a close estimate. But it depends on how much you bleed how easy you and your skin are to work with. Sometimes those things make it take longer and it cost more sometimes it’s really easy and it cost lest they just aim for the middle. It’s not like they plan it all out with you and say let’s do this but don’t ask me what it’s going to cost that’s rude. The whole skill and experience of an artist do play a role in the price but that had nothing to do with the question lol Hope that clears some stuff up for ya so you can go out and lose your tattoo Virginity🤣👍🏻
@@aaronbuchholz4184 to be clear, i get that a lot information is required in order to give you a realistic approximation of the total cost and i am also aware that they cant predict things like how your skin will react and such. My point is , as soon as you talk about prices they get defensive and talk about how you cant put a price on expertise and talent and how you shouldn't shop for tattoos based on the price. The reality is , almost any professionals regardless of their field of expertise can give you an estimate of the cost of their work and don't get mad if you ask them how expensive it might get( they also have to deal with mishaps). I see why bargaining prices might get frustrating for professional, but artists, they take it personal, like an insult to their craft.
After we figured out how big it was going to be and where it was going to be the artist will quote you a time to get it done... eg 15 hours x the shop rate which they will tell you is the cost. But walking in and saying how much for a _______ on my _____? Is an impossible question to answer until you figure out a lot of variables. Photo realism is going to take longer than traditional for example. So the cost is higher. That's all. You won't leave a final consult without an idea of what it'll cost.
@@Sevulturus1 look, im only taking my personal experiences in consideration here but the times i tried to talk prices with a tattooers always ended up the same way . I get labbeld as a cheap ass who is only looking for low prices and get treated as such. Maybe its a local thing but i doubt it p.s. why does every one asume that i just walk out of tattoo shops cursing at the artists because they could not give me a realistic price for a full sleeve after 30 sec of consultation? yall pretty dense
I brought my toddler to a consultation once but my husband came too and had him in his arms or stroller and he definitely did not touch the ground or even cry. Turned out to be a good thing the artist asked me if I was still breastfeeding and told me to wait till my son was weaned before making an appointment. I hadn’t considered that it could effect my milk
If you bring a tattoo from Pinterest or a photo tell them “ I want something like this!” Never say exactly like this because you are copying someone else’s work if you want exactly like that!
It can be easier for them to get to the "flow" if they don't need to focus on a conversation at the same time; most generally don't mind, especially given that they know you're probably not as used to sitting/lying still for hours in silence as they are; some like to chat. I personally wait for the artist to initiate the conversation and try to not break silences when the needle is on me, and chat while the artist is fiddling with the tools.
I think the easiest thing to do with people that dont understand the body movement changing the piece, just draw a rough sketch in the place they want it. Yes it takes extra time, but it will help them understand what you are saying.
I think they say don’t ask price because artists usually charge an hourly rate so it will be based on how long it takes to finish a piece not a fixed price on a piece
In ZA, it's actually illegal to tattoo someone who's under the influence. I lowkey thought that's just a global thing and it was a joke in American movie about getting a drunk tattoo.
My first serious tattoo shop experience: Called ahead asked if any artists were availavle for a consulation guy on phone said "yes come in at any time" Ended up talking to some dude while he was tattooing some guys back and the "artist" was only willing to COPY the inspiration I brought in. I did NOT want a copy I wanted the art style used with some alterations and variations. He said "I'm not doing that. I'll do whats in the picture but thats it"
What's the etiquette on asking your artist their Starbucks/lunch order on our way to the appt? Lol I eat beforehand and want to extend an offer to them because they're going to sit as long as I am.
"if they have a situation" .. if someone is in a situation where they cannot pay full price they should not be getting inked? I mean even if it's something like to memorialize a passed loved one, they should be able to pay full price like any other customer. A very common art tip is that if you can't pay for it, don't get it, whether you're commissioning an artist, getting a tattoo, or even getting a piercing imo. You don't do that at restaurants, so why is it that people think this is okay to do with artists? :(
I have a very limited budget. My latest tattoo was estimated to be 6 hours. It took 9. Artist charged me for 8 hours and understood when I didn't give him a tip. Some artists want to tattoo people with limited budgets. They don't all set prices by how much they can get. Some artists keep their prices lower because that is who they want to tattoo. As long as there is respect both ways it is fine.
Dave Brown - Most recently, I asked my artist to commission something for me. He asked me how much I was willing to spend; He asked so he’d know what he was looking at in terms of time, detail, etc. So I told him. Sometimes, it’s not bad to discuss pricing beforehand. I don’t want to screw over my artist. Ever. I never want him to feel as though he’s been cheated, or taken advantage of. If he quotes me a price I can’t afford, I schedule an appointment with him at a later date to be able save for it. It’s pretty simple. It’s not haggling to check beforehand so you don’t screw someone over.
Omg. I about had a damn heart attack when one of the other tattoo artist’s kid ran up to the artist ACTIVELY tattooing my thigh and gave him a big hug from the back. I love kids but I almost lost it. Thank god my artist managed to fix the line.
Brought my mom along, she is a nurse Everything was in order and clean, but the guys from the studio got really nervous at first And yes, she was chill about it, she's always wanted to get a tattoo, since before I was born, and even now that she's approaching 50, she still wants one. But she always chickens out. I'm trying to get her used to it so she can finally do it one day
Here in Hungary you will know the basic price. E.g. Shops will charge you between $40-50 if you want something small and if you go by a bigger piece they will charge you by hours or sessions. I have both sleeves and back done. My back took 6 sessions but it took almost 2 yrs to be done because I just kept adding more. one of my sleeve was 4 sessions and the other was 5 sessions

If you have a budget you should tel them beforehand
Everyone I go to charges by the hours and ive gotten a lot of tattoos so where I'm from about 100$ an hour is fair or if it's an apprentice $75 an hour
I once was getting a tattoo and this couple who had no tattoo walked in and they were talking to an apprentice and she was going to tattoo a six letter word on him for 200$. I felt bad for them
Come to eastern Europe. Awesome artists for A LOT LESS.
I love the soft, nearly paisely, flowers on Sabrina. Beautiful work for an amazing person.
i love the tone of Sabrina's tattoos. So delicate, especially the little elephant.

Can u do a video about a tattoo artist without tattoos? Or how fellow artists would feel about that?
It's a few out there, but most apprenticeships you WILL end up getting tattoos lol.
Donovan Lankford thanks, and lol, but if i did end up someone with no tattoos, would i be ridiculed if i was also a tattoo artist?
It's generally frowned upon
Selene oof. Thanks for ur feedback tho
All his employees found it odd and didn't take him seriously...
i love the photo realistic tats on the pink haired girl
I got tattooed at a shop where Sabrina used to work and she’s the sweetest and even more stunning in person

“Don’t ask for an estimate”
Yea let me just give you a tattoo and I’ll tell you how much it costs afterwords.
Yeah that’s a good idea. Not.
THAT'S. NOT. HOW. IT.
Hunter Carney afterwards
Me: I got you a dollar
Sabrina Nolan most want a ballpark range. You can normally guess about how long it may take and you can always disclaim that the estimate may be more or less and I will keep you updated as we go.
The dark haired girl is beautiful
Isla Gurney might come off as weird but it’s kinda cool seeing an asian woman with thick hair! I have thick hair but I usually see girls with thin hair.
@@Mooncrest0 I live in an Asian country with lots of people from different parts of Asia and most of us have thick hair. It might be an area thing?
@Sexy Girl RUDE? LMAO F OFF he wasn't any rude wtf...
@@Mooncrest0 I could not stop staring at her hair!! Damn those are some thick locs!!
I'm assuming you dont live in America, judging by the amount you had to pay. A medium sized tattoo is the price of a fucking car here
LillyyHD depends where you go, there are plenty of reasonably priced very talented tattooers where I’m from
My tattoo artist did all of my dad's tattoos in the last years of his life, I got about 1/3 of my thigh covered with a blacked out Raven for 200 before tip, very beautiful. I think relationships can be important here. Also from the US
@@meltedcrayons5729 one tattoo cost me $250. But he's on my thigh for forever so it's worth it a sleeve would be thousands of dollars I think.

The chick with the black hair has the best chest.

I was wondering if you guys could do a video with the artists on the best way to prepare for a full day sitting. The dos and don’ts, what’s rude, tips to describe with the pain ect. I’ve got a full day sitting next month and low key freaking out but very excited! Love you guys
catsandflowercrowns 1 depends on what your artist says is a full day. My guys hasn’t really gone past 4 hours at a sit

Their tattoos are soooo beautiful, I'm in awe !
regarding prices; i first told my tattoo artist my idea and how big i wanted it.
I got € 10 off when I got my tattoo. I never asked for it, they just gave it because we were done early. I thought it was nice of the staff to do so.
I LOVE the way they talk. Their voices are so unique

The whole skill and experience of an artist do play a role in the price but that had nothing to do with the question lol
Hope that clears some stuff up for ya so you can go out and lose your tattoo Virginity🤣👍🏻
@@aaronbuchholz4184 nice eddit dick head , like if tattooers where the only ones that had to deal whit unforeseeable problems
Maybe its a local thing but i doubt it

I brought my toddler to a consultation once but my husband came too and had him in his arms or stroller and he definitely did not touch the ground or even cry. Do tatooers not like small talk or conversation while they're tattooing?
Patricio Aron Castrillon Rosso Depends on the artist. Their personality and how they like to work.
Depends on the artist. Ask beforehand. Mine didn't mind and said she'd just stop replying if she was concentrating

Damn I wanna meet these 2 nd get to know them as ppl. They seem chill af nd plus they both pretty af

“that’s the one that smokes crack” 😂 wow
I love that ocean sleeve it’s gorgeous
That part where you say you can't ask for an estimate price of a sleeve.. I mean, I think its just fair to answer that.
