Great video..thank you ! Yup ..marketers got to come up with a name that sells their products..that is how the brown king crab marketing name is golden and spot shrimp are called spot prawns or just prawns...prawns don't even live in salt water any where on Earth..lol Opilio and Bairdi crab ( tanners )..are called snow crabs. Surprised marketers haven't come up with a fish called "Best Tasty Fish " yet..LMAO. Cheers from Thorne Bay...which still has crabs because the sea otters haven't killed them all yet...probably because we practice S.S.S. here.
In preparation for our trip to Alaska I watched a lot of videos. I wish that I had seen yours before my trip earlier this month. Yours are the most straight forward and useful I've seen. Thank you for the straight shooting information.
I'll bet your grandpa fished with a green and white hoochie , I have seen these rigs in my grandpa's commercial gear from Wrangell and wondered about the heavy line . I made a bunch of flashers from stainless countertop material, and dozens of 3" spoon blanks . A stainless steel butter knife handle is a tight 5" rockfish jig about the size of a point Roberts dart . I'll get there eventually. . . Molded a couple hundred 1# cannon balls too , because I also use them in my cannons.
Good stuff. I told the Gooch to try a pink and purple jig out by Burnett several years ago. A pink and purple jig has accounted for many sore arm days for me in Canada on the Chums.
How did I get back here again 😂, I love those new flasher stickers , I made a dozen flashers from stainless kitchen material. Also 70 3" and 4" spoons that need to be formed, I want to make a form for the press to copy the McMahon spoon.... butter knife handle rockfish jigs are an awful lot like a point Roberts dart , I think I have 50 now and over a hundred 1# cannonball sinkers Do what you can with what you got . If you can't hit the bottom, play hell with the sides .
Thanks for sharing! Going to get my kids out this season and avoid the crowds on the bank. This almost reminds me of upsizing my kokanee gear with exception of using a flasher and way heavier line. I'll need to do some testing! If you read this do you think its worth even trying to use 8in dodgers with 12in leaders to the hoochies? Would be epic if so to feel the fish!
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing John. Hoping to catch a few dogs when I’m up there next week.
Great video..thank you !
