    Contra muitas expectativas sobre esta presença de Yanis Varoufakis em Portugal, ele não veio com a intenção de atacar politicamente nenhum partido nem sequer nenhuma ideologia política.
    Vemos um Senhor verdadeiramente interessado em melhorar a Europa, despido de "clubismos" partidários e com único objetivo de melhorar as condições de vida de uma Europa claramente fragilizada, desorientada e desatualizada.
    Uma grande lição para todos os que, pelo nosso país fora, se fixam em ataques partidários, presumindo que tudo o que o seu partido diz e faz está correto e que tudo o que os restantes partidos dizem e fazem está errado (isto é comum a todos, não apenas "à direita" ou "à esquerda").
    Acabemos com a "tradição" de olharmos para partidos políticos como se de clubes de futebol se tratássem.
    Unamo-nos de uma vez por todas ao combate à corrupção que, muito mais que ideologias políticas, tem vindo a destruir o nosso país e a nossa Europa.
    Isto é o que a política devia ser. Um debate constante com um objetivo comum em mente, com respeito mútuo e o interesse de melhorar o país que gerem, fundamentado por factos e não opiniões partidárias.

      Well, he went bankrupt our banking system and added 90 BB..billion Euro to our dept in 7 months. In order to prevent the banking system from totally collapsing he instituted capital controls which caused many bussinesses to close and a rapid increase in unemployment in the middle of the tourist period.

    • @MrCostiZz
      @MrCostiZz 8 лет назад +1

      +BlindGus No the European Union (not bankrupt) but intentionally closed our Banks to intimidate the Greek voters to vote YES to the referendum.....Not knowing simple history ...Greeks can never be blackmailed.....As once again we proved.

    Yanis Varoufakis is a genuine representative of ancient Greek dialectics, very pedagogical and enlightening. He makes me feel as if I am reading a book of Aristotelis like politics or ethics or Plato´s like Faidon or Kriton!

    Varoufakis is brilliant. Yet I do find a bit of a contradiction when early in his speech he champions democracy - that the people out there have what it takes to decide important matters of state. Then later in the question period he was asked if we still need a form of “representative democracy”? His answer was that in a complicated technical society we need to retain the concept of representative democracy. I think he’s right if you look at the present level of sophistication of society today. Voters need to become smarter and better informed. Yet it was the noted conservative William F. Buckley who famously said: “I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University”. Yes, I know Buckley is taking a jab at the Harvard liberal establishment here and is not actually praising the wisdom of the 400 Bostonians.

    I have been listening to your speeches Yanis Varoufakis, for the last 3 years and I enjoyed every bit of your insights and observations. Now I am questioning the ROI of all these speeches. How much of it is being absorbed and hopefully applied in the effort of restoring Democracy? At the end is it not about absorbing and adopting the conveyed thoughts? And is there any practical way to get more actionable results?

    Este video está silenciado num momento crucial em que Varoufakis fala do que Draghi fez, entre 1:33:34 e 1:33:38. Será possível ter acesso a estes 4 segundos de informação? Se possível por escrito, já que o video aqui não os contém.
    "(...) 65 billion off... (silêncio) ... *ing a lot of tension with the Central Bank of Germany (...)"
    Estes 4 segundos que estão insonorizados parecem ser de relevante importância.

    How did this video and the other versions here on youtube of this precise talk, become censored at the exact same place in his speech? When he says: "
    Now, let's look at what Draghi has been doing; he has been purchasing as I said about 65 billion euros of..."
    Then the sound is being cut off and the next several sentences are silenced and not available for anyone to hear. Censorship? By who? And what was he saying? Anyone of you know?

      @hol08048275 8 лет назад +1

      +bonancavila Yes I noticed it has been edited in some parts. I don't know if it is intentional censoring though. From what I can remember he said something like "I won't tell you who it was, but it wasn't a Portuguese minister", but if i'm wrong about this please correct me as I was stood right at the back of the hall and had difficulty hearing. I also noticed a cut at 1:21:48 too. If anyone can remember what he said there, please could you post it here?

    I am tired of political labels (left, right). Neither of these labels are accurate anymore. For example, I want to own land, start my own payroll processing business. But I also believe fundamentally, that we have a duty to provide public education, health care and pensions .... this is what made Canada the number one country in the world in the 1970s according to the UN Human Development Program. But then we had then we had destabilizing policies like NAFTA, and we lost our quality of life.

    Mais alguem reparou que existem pequenas partes, segundos que foram editados/cortado? Tem alguma coisa a ver com o facto de que na manhã de ontem, 18 de outubro, 1 dia após o seu upload este video esteve bloqueado, durante pouco tempo, aqui no youtube por direitos de autor reclamados pela RTP?

    • @elisabeteabreu1378
      @elisabeteabreu1378 8 лет назад +1

      +Pedro Costa É bem possível. O que pode ter acontecido é a RTP ter pago à Universidade de Coimbra o direito de transmissão em minutos para uma reportagem e por isso agora não permite que o que gravou e pagou seja agora transmitido pela UC. Mas uma dúvida terrível me assalta o espírito: será que já fizeram isso com a intenção de ninguém poder transmitir depois as partes mais "incómodas"? Isso sim seria censura!

    Democratizing anywhere first requires politicians who are accountable to at least trying to call for and support, policies that were presented and compared in a fair and reliable way to an informed electorate. Without 'Voter Consumer Rights' you do not have a democracy.

    Fabulous and provocative thinker. I have to take issue though with his characterisation of the birth of EEC. The main trusting forces were quintessentially European. They wanted to slowly build a space outside US/UK hegemony. The only thing the post war masters allowed was an economic union of sorts. We might be finally seeing some clawing back of sovereignty with Brexit. Let's see how things play out these two years.
    I see the birth of the Eurodollar as another struggle to claw back some control from the US Fed.

    This kind of "democratisation" is very problematic. In the Greek case, it seems to mean "we want to be able to borrow at German interest rates and not have to pay back what we borrow but be bailed out by other members of the Eurozone, even if they are poorer and work harder and longer than us". That is not sustainable. If a democracy borrows, that democracy has to honour its commitments and pay back.
