I tried RT for a week, I found it more than I wanted to tackle. I was tired of playing hovercrafts and tanks and trucks. I want to play big stompy mechs. Between that and the annoying level of bookkeeping in RT, I decided it wasn't for me. I understand what RT wants to do, but IMO they took away a lot of the simplicity of the vanilla battletech video game to incorporate all the pencil and paper tabletop elements. Extended allows you to pick between an expanded version of essentially the vanilla game (which is what I am recording) as well as versions with more elements of the tabletop game if you want more of a challenge. What I love about Extended is it offers a chance to play the whole battletech universe, just like RT, and they added in a TON of new mechs and tech, but they kept the focus on mechs. The game I'm playing also incorporates the expanded lance so I am playing with 8 mechs instead of the vanilla 4. I'm having a blast with it. It's more game without being overwhelmingly more. For example, when I was playing RT, the opening world I was on had so many missions available from so many different factions, and every few days they would cycle (since I had to rest to recover from missions I was on)...I played the game for a week, and never left the first world I was on...there was no incentive to leave and explore what was offered on other systems. There was just too much for me to deal with. But, to each their own. I know a lot of people love RT, and good on them...it was just more stressful than fun for me.
Is this better then rougetech?
