  • Baalwala Sets Out To Explore Novel Writer Krishan Chander. We Will Get To Find Out Why He Wanted To Come Back To Lahore As A Last Wish. We Also Get To Know A Little More In Detail About The Legend Writer Including The Office Where His Books Were Published From. Do Watch Till End.
    Krishan Chander (23 November 1914 - 8 March 1977) was an Indian Urdu and Hindi writer of short stories and novels. Some of his works have also been translated in English. He was a prolific writer, penning over 20 novels, 30 collections of short stories and scores of radio plays in Urdu, and later, after partition in 1947, took to writing in Hindi as well. He also wrote screen-plays for Bollywood movies to supplement his meagre income as an author of satirical stories. Krishan Chander's novels (including the classic: Ek Gadhe Ki Sarguzasht, transl. 'Autobiography of a Donkey') have been translated into over 16 Indian languages and some foreign languages, including English.

    Let me congratulate you once again BaalWala Sahib for another masterpiece commentary on Krishan Chander and his literary contributions - creative, enlightened, progressive. Like you my debt to Krishan Chander for kindling in me deep humanism is immense, nothing I can ever repay back. I am glad you mentioned the letter he wrote to me a few days before his demise. From Stockholm I had urged him to vist Lahore as I myself felt the pull of my that magical city. His reply came only to be followed by his death in Bombay. Viewpoint Lahore published his reply under the title, His Last Letter. All power to your pen. Ishtiaq Ahmed, Stockholm, 3 October 2022.

    Baalwalla Ji, you make masterpieces. My grandparents and parents were born in Lahore. I was born in Delhi, but without stepping foot in Lahore, I feel I have been there all my life due to fond memories and stories told to me by my parents and grandparents. My parents and grandparents are no more to tell me those stories, so I watch your videos to relive those moments.

    I'm 54, in our college days college librarian won't allow us to read novels and short stories. We bend the steel Almirah of Afsana section. We used to steal Krishan chander Afsana books and quietly place them back. Memories of reading Krishan Chander books just in one sitting in sunny winters still amuses me.

      That is the saddest fact l recently came to know that it were not the sikhs who started the killings it were greedy punjabi upper hierarchy who realized that Pakistan has fallen into their laps as a huge opportunity for getting quick rich so they forced local Sikh population to leave so that they can take their wealth and property. But then in return Sikhs of india did the same to Muslim population on their end. lt is such a shame that greed killed millions on both side but it all was initiated by Muslims of pakistani side. After pakistan became a reality same people still are busy in loot and control, but of entire Pakistan.

    Chayaash is a good addition to Urdu it's very similar to the English word "Dipsomaniac". I paused the video at Urdu bazar to tell you a word that was similarly new for me like Chayaash, I heard it from Prof. Mohammad Taha Khan (who poetically translated Rehman Baba's Pashto poetry to Urdu). The word was Gapocha which has two stems Gap and Cha which are the half of Gapshap and Chaaye.
    In the end one couplet from Rehman Baba's poetic translation for you.
    *بچے گا کس طرح سے امیدوار دنیا کا*
    *بدن ہے کاغذی کشتی سفر ہے دریا کا*

    what a journey you took us on.....Showing real Lahore in such a way with your mesmerizing narration and selection of unique Urdu words in its quite pure accent is just like a spell you casted on us the viewers. You redefined Krishan Chander's legacy is so much nostalgic.
    These streets......these narrow and wide streets of old Lahore with real people...your cameraman knows what exactly you want to record....I am spell bound by this video of yours. Lahore se phir se Mohbat ho jaati hai aap ki videos ko dekh ker....

      Perhaps a pathorra is thick and multi-layered,still deep fried in burning oil and a masculine variety and grand father of the younger sibling-a feminine version still fried in oil but not thick. Eaten piping hot in rapid succession with Halwa or chollay including chikkar-chollay. My two cents in culinary arts….

    • @malikahmad8170
      @malikahmad8170 Год назад +1

      I missed mentioning puri-i think and reminisce of my guilty college days and the best puri was available in Old Anarkali, Andoon Lahore, Data Durbar, and Lahore Heeramundi. You had to whisper the name of Lahore heeramundi else some Mulla type may listen and frown upon you but that would take you to Phujjay-day-paway which is another culinary history of Lahore. Perhaps Baalwala sahib may someday venture into the culinary world of Lahore after he get tired of finding old Lahorias homes in the unending narrow, winding streets.

    • @AhmadAli-gp4ig
      @AhmadAli-gp4ig Год назад

      @@malikahmad8170 well Puri and Pathoora both are deep fried...but Pathoora is different in many ways, its not eaten with Halwa, while its Channa Gravy is also very different than Purri's Channa Bhaji which has some sliced potato Bhujiya into it. Purri along with Halwa is eaten, Pathora is eaten with carrot and Mango pickle....

      @@AhmadAli-gp4ig I confess my ignorance in such subtle versions. Mostly with the crowds of friends and largely entrusted to foot the bill, I may have missed such deep distinctions for which this Transplanted Lahoria sincerely regrets.

    Sir, your channel and videos are like a treat for anyone who is in love with Lahore. In this video you showed FC College (My College for 6 Years) with information on Krishan Chander in the background, It is nostalgic. My first intro with Krishan Chander Sb was when my mamu gifted me some books which included his and Manto's Afsaanas. These two books were more attractive than the book on Jinnah at that time for a matric student like me.

    BaalWala: Thank you for this channel. Your videos really help highlight the rich cultural heritage of Lahore. Its very unfortunate due to Politics and division so many of these landmarks have been left to rot. Maybe private investors will step in as no one can depend on the Gov. I have never been to Lahore but part of my family heritage is from Lahore however they migrated well before 1947 to India. I like to study history/culture and its great to get an idea of what this city use to be like before partition by watching these videos..
