OH, also forgot, there's a great show in Netflix called "The Makanai" that you might find interesting - excellent series about life in a geisha house in Kyoto. It also has a lot of food.
They are dressed as maiko. Since they are younger, their clothes are more colorful than full geisha. If you like traditional Japanese instruments, check out the Waggaki Band.

At the end of the day they stated they had changed their minds, and would be reverting back to "BAND-MAID". : ) One cool thing is that Miku changed the dialect of their singing and modified the lyrics to use the traditional phrasing from the old Capital of Kyoto that is identified with Geisha culture. Kanami worked with their sound engineer to add virtual traditional instruments. A maiko is an apprentice geiko in Kyoto and Western Japan. That's the regional equivalent to a geisha. You'll probably like 'Gion-cho'. It's the featured single on the BAND-MAIKO mini-album that also contains Maiko versions of several BAND-MAID songs, including this one. Although she is from Kumamoto, Miku is very fond of Kyoto and visits it whenever she can.

This whole EP or album is really great, they did several covers of Band Maid songs, and original song "Gioncho" and there is a video for that one. Their covers for "Awkward" and "Anemone" were really beautiful too, unfortunately they never released videos for those songs. You were mostly correct about them looking like geishas, a Maiko is an apprentice geisha. It took so long to do the makeup and get into the costumes that they wore them during the entire video shoot for "Secret MAIKO Lips" and "Gioncho" and they said they could barely move in the outfits. Please take very good care of yourself and I hope you have an amazing week.

The instrument that was placed in front of Kanami was a koto.
9:23 That instrument is Koto (琴).
The Wagakki-band (和楽器バンド) also have member playing a Koto, and a Shamisen (三味線) player.
