I found this sermon was really clarifying. But I'd just make the point that the inheritance is a share in the inheritance but I'm pretty sure I wont be hearing "what's mine is yours". It all belongs to Jesus and if He lets me share even a tiny bit of that then that's OK but it all belongs to Jesus. Jesus is always the King of the Kingdom. *Daniel 7:13-14* - I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. (ESV) *Daniel 7:27* - And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; their kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey them. (ESV) *Romans 8:16-17* - The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, *provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him*. (ESV)
Well, this sermon as beautiful as it sounds, and it does, leaves out what one should think about the larger body of people who’ve literally been slaves. The OT explains that slaves under the Law were protected at some level against abusive “masters”. However, it’s pretty easy to assume, and historically prove, that the nations around Israel did not provide for such protections. Then there’s the reality that six millennia have passed and there have been many slaves in that time. Slaves who had no protections at all to speak of. These were/are human beings made in Gods image whose lives have been brutal, sad, and likely hopeless. I know and believe God is perfect, just and good. I also know that human beings are fallen, sinful and often behave in evil ways. So, it doesn’t make sense to me that God would not give a command, and or leave us with a clear biblical understanding that slavery was just wrong in and of itself. That it was not to be practiced. Instead the Israelites allowed to have slaves forever as long as they weren’t Jewish. That was only allowed to go on for six years, and then the Jewish slave had to be released. If it was wrong for Jewish people why not every slave? Anyway, lots I don’t understand about this.
