I gotta say, making a fire without a match or lighter is one of the most rewarding experiences ever. Going back to mans primal state, without fire we would die. Modern technologies have caused us to lose our ability to survive the wild. So getting to do this fills a hole most dont know they have.

Not silly if you think about it. A balisong has no use other than looking cool and harming people, it's a shit knife for actually cutting things. It's like those fully automated blades that used to be in old gangster movies, not really good for cutting, just useful for stabbing and intimidation.

Was just about to mention how careful you have to be with fires in nature, thanks for adding the heads up Mike! It's so dry and warm in A LOT of countries at the moment and a lot of wildfires and forest fires going on, even a small thing as a cigarette butt can start a fire in places where it's very dry.
In most of Sweden it's forbidden at the moment to even start up a campfire (or using fire somehow in general), let alone trying to learn how to start a fire. Be careful people!

The greatest part about this is that you can take all of this with you, and lug it around so you have a reliable way of starting fires again and again. BUT there are ways to make it even better!
If you get a longer and thicker stick, and instead push it down with your shoulder, you get much more friction. Then, it will create so much heat that even if you get it wet in the rain, you can get an ember.

Ashencloud i really dont know, prolly like a filter that goes thru stages idk. Lemme rephrase the question, learn to get pure water from a lake of body of water of some sorts

    • @ashencloud2158

well that's simple you just put it through a coffee filter then boil it, no learning needed

One of the most profound moments in human history, essentially the step from primitive to progressive. I often wonder how they came up with the concept. Did they see a forest fire and witness wood burning, then somehow relate friction to heat. Whatever way they did it, considering how much effort is needed to create fire, they must have been absolutely certain, that it was possible when they began.

i did the exact same thing before even watching :
i tried both ways of making a fire and after 20 minutes of hard work i got a tiny little smoke and i gave up ,then i had an idea" what would happen if i use a drill with a stick " but i said that it will be a headache to do and i watched your video and you actually used the drill :)))))

What you did is called a Widowmaker. As a logger in Louisiana, USA, I was almost killed by a much larger example of this. Two tree entwined far above me, dropping one and pulling large limbs from the other. Sudden unconsciousness and a painful realization of my own mortality. Only my hardhat and providence saved me that time. Please be careful in the future, as I care for you and your content. Always look up, always carefully consider what might assault you from the sky.

Primitive Technology's youtube channel is a much better source for survival skills. Don't get me wrong, Mike is great at a lot of things and I love his drive to learn new things, but he is by no means a survival man.
(Tip for Primitive Technology's videos: turn on closed captions because he doesn't actually speak in his videos though he is incredible at teaching survival skills)

JewishGirlRox Very simple. It happend to me while I was sitting in church. I was sitting there and was wondering if I could move me eyebrows back (towards my ears) so what I did was raised my eyebrows and tried moving them back only to realise my ears moved aswell and then yeah. Felt the muscles near my ear and yeah

4:19, you need a smooth, pithy drill (like a reed or dried horseweed stalk), a softwood board (willow like you used with the firedrill is good), and need to use the full length of your hands not just your palms (strokes too short). You've got the right idea...

I think that was actually quite a fast learning curve. Try the fire roll though - is is easier in my opinion but you do need to find the right ingredients for the inside - like ash from an old fire, or rust from some oxidised iron perhaps
