You know that feeling you got the first time listening to this? Yeah, I still got it. And it's September 2024.
I first listened to this song last year. Ive been missing out.
I was 12 and it reminds me of my high school days… best days of my life 😢 along with
Stone temple pilots
Jerry Kantrell
Soundgarden ❤️
haha yeah I was about 6 or 7 dancing in the living room 😂 I'm 23 now
Your benzedrine? Mine also...
me too. it's august 2024
R.E.M. could rock when they wanted to and this song is the proof.
Bad day as well
I came to find that feeling from this song and its still there. ❤❤
Same here!
One more here!
Same!!!
Still get chills listening to this masterpiece
No kidding right!❤
Ill argue hard this is their best
Wasn't even his best, or his second. Still fucking great.
YES!!!💯
They’re best song! And that video! Stipe was definitely one of the best front men of the 90s!!
Peter bucks guitar tone is epic!
I got pretty close with a Les Paul thru a ProCo Rat into a Vox AC15. If you’re looking for it.
Peter's brother Ken worked for me in Atlanta when this ca 1:59 me out ... at first, I wondered if he was the "Kenneth" that the song was written about!
😊
One of the very few songs I never get tired of.
Yeah I don’t really give a crap about REM one way or the other but this song is terrific.
Same same
Me neither
When I was six, my older brother, a huge fan, nicknamed me Kenneth soon after this came out. What a belting song from a brilliant band.
@Jay Sharp well mayb e not
fortunately i did not need that nickname great song
does he still call you kenneth to this day?
@@deano8497 ha! every now and then :)
@Jay Sharp yes of course :)
Summalla J Trochett!!! You will forever be my first and last love. Thank you for all the beautiful memories. 2165
So glad to be named Kenneth and like listening to this song!
Brazil salutes and applauds REM! Decades of good music!
Yess👐🎧🎶🎤🇧🇷😉
Come to Brazil
multo bien
Much love from the USA
OBRIGADO!!
It was kind of surreal when Dan Rather played the song on Late Night with David Letterman since he was the subject of the song.
"You always said irony was the shackles of youth, uhh huh," will always be one of my favorite rock-n-roll lines I've ever had the privilege of hearing, man ✌️
Excellent composition. Elegant in its simplicity. Super simple beat, 4/4 time and power chords. Perfect song for beginner musicians.
It would take a bit of practice to get that bass line down though😂
It's 2023 .... And I always get a stupid smile on my face listening to this
I listened to this album over and over and over and over when it came out. Still my favorite album of theirs
Monster, most underrated albums of the 90s.
@@justinwise6846- Normally I hate how people toss around the word "underrated" when discussing music as its use is highly subjective. That being said for once I actually do agree that Monster is R.E.M.'s most underrated album. No followup record, no matter how good, was ever going to top the brilliance of Automatic for the People and unfortunately Monster suffered because of its position in the R.E.M. catalogue. As such the album never did get the proper credit it deserved from fans when it was originally released. Fans were looking for another Out of Time or another Automatic for the People and Monster threw them for a loop. Thank God those same fans eventually came around and Monster finally started to get the respect it deserved years later.
Mine too. Actually went to see them of the back of thos album. Excellent hearing this live.
Effin great song!! 1994!! Great memories!
Made an exhibition window in a second hand shop i worked in in the 00s and all the CDs got sold except Monster by REM, it just kept staying there, it's orange color slowly fading to a pinkish tone by the light. Always wondered why no one bought it, it's a great album!
I think everyone already had it. I go to thrift stores often and I've seen many copies of the album for sale.
@@naturalnashuan that's probably the reason
Who else remembers going to buy used cd’s at warehouse music (or tower/ Sam goody) and half of the R section was this one album?
Yeah and I (oddly) bought two copies of this CD. Once I heard it, I knew my friend had to have it too, so bought him one. Never seen that guy since around '95, but I bet he remembers me by this album.
I got my copy for 1¢, new (with postage.) And it's one of my favorite albums.
I remember love😊🎉❤
Remember buying the single, and the lp. I had to get the bus into town. Great days x
I remember this tune from when I had my ice cream truck . It was called rock n roll ice cream. I had a 365 watt stereo in a 63 two and a half ton Dodge metro van. Acustics inside were fantastic. Looked and you could hear it driving down the road. The awesome days, outlaw 80s and early 90s.
Now that is something I'd do!!
I'm in amazement over the idea
If U haven't seen it, watch "Greatest Day" by Smashing Pumpkins, it involves an ice cream truck and rock music😊
I was 13 when this song came out and still listen to it. I never get tired of REM.
当時CD買いました!
今でもたまに無性に聞きたくなる中毒性があるんだよね。
Is it ever cool that Google translated your post for me. HI FROM CANADA
(I'm a fluffy dork)
(I can't believe that, after those US election results, I'm chirping at people again)
Bought the single on CD when it came out, always been my favourite R.E.M. piece of work. Cheers from italy
same here....now need to look for it :)
There's also, "it's the end of world 🌐 as we know it!" great song, profound!
Monster was the perfect follow up to the two amazing mostly accoustic albums, just turned the amps to 11. Timeless
Fall 1994 … what a magical time. ☮️
Absolutely. I was thirteen. Bought this on cassette tape when it came out, the music video for this was omnipresent on MTV. I put this album on and was utterly floored and listened to it incessantly.

Yeah. So much in the air then. Magical is the only word
*The magicality of asbestos*
Awesome song. Best R.E.M. album.
This great song and its sound never seem to age. The album was on replay, particular THIS song when it came out. The band at his best.
None of their songs have aged at all
oh the riffs! the riffs! This is brilliant
song still travels.. great heavy music with mikes singing,,,,,thats r&r folks !! awesome
this song is timeless, 1994 is so long ago now....
Yep, 20 years ago
So many friends of mine had this on CD back then. Senior year of high school.
Tears in my eyes remembering my uncle David who hosted me in Georgia he worked in the music industry and would send us cds always had a joke great guy
In college this was everday. I now love REM.
My favorite uncle bought me this single on cassette back in the day. I had to get my parents to play it for me in the car.
Under the silver lake best nostalgic scene
I love that movie. But yes, that's one of the scenes that always makes me wanna watch it again.
What's the frequency, Kenneth?" is your Benzedrine, uh-huh
I was brain-dead, locked out, numb, not up to speed
I thought I'd pegged you an idiot's dream
Tunnel vision from the outsider's screen
I never understood the frequency, uh-huh
You wore our expectations like an armored suit, uh-huh
I'd studied your cartoons, radio, music, TV, movies, magazines
Richard said, "Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy"
A smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh
I never understood the frequency, uh-huh
"What's the frequency, Kenneth?" is your Benzedrine, uh-huh
Butterfly decal, rearview mirror, dogging the scene
You smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh
I never understood the frequency, uh-huh
You wore our expectations like an armored suit, uh-huh
I couldn't understand
You said that irony was the shackles of youth, uh-huh
I couldn't understand
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh
I couldn't understand
I never understood, don't fuck with me, uh-huh

Cool thanks for the lyrics 🎸👍
Still don't know what is being described here. Love this song lol
I finally looked for the lyrics after all these years! Turns out that I had no idea what they were!
Absolutely love the electric guitar throughout the whole album.
I really like the original mix, maybe I'll get used to the vocals being more prominent in remix.
Monster tour 1995 Huddersfield stadium (UK). Unforgettable.
This isn't a remix. It's a remaster. The mix hasn't been changed. There _is_ a remix on the 25th anniversary album, but this isn't it.
..bet it was.

OG wal same. Saw them in Italy in 95. Monster tour. I was only 16. What a show!
@@davecarsley8773 Remaster = re-mix.

I love you R.E.M
Love it. Great song.
Mike Mills harmonies = 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
the best!!
One of the most underrated musicians alive. Bass virtuoso, damn near pitch perfect vocals, love me some Mike Mills!!
Great Lead Guitar Playing on the Fenders including the Fender JagStang Class
So many veiled meanings in this song - unbelievable.
Yeah bro 😫
Explain
Elaborate bro coz i jus found what orange crush was
Best song of Monsters álbum.! From rio de janeiro Brazil 🇧🇷
Hear this song after 2 semi acoustic albums was amazing at the time!! 🇧🇷
male or femaile are?
if ur male ur gay
I could never understand anyone not liking REM
My all time favourite 😍❤❤❤❤
I don't know what it is but over a decade ago I was pretty badly electrocuted as a child and I can vividly remember the only thing I heard pre-blackout, with everything in slowmotion, was like the riff at 0:41 and so on. I actually flipped when I discovered this song and heard that sound again after all these years, electricity isn't a joke. Thank you for that
What about the frequency?
50Hz
não enjoo de ouvir essa musica rsrsr
This song always puts me in a Happy Place,..😌✌️
Perfect fun rock song.REM has given me so many sonic jewels over the years.I was 12 years old and bought Murmur when it came out. That’s how long I’ve been listening to REM.I’m constantly rediscovering their catalogue again recently.Their music takes me to a wonderful place still.
Journalist Has been attacked..attacker:What the frequency,Kenneth?? What the Frequency,Kenneth??
And then the jurnalist survived with wounds and he said smth on air
all the album is fantastic
This song is1 of thee elite of all time
My favorite
And is never played on radio 😢
I always understood it was writing, how seldom did we see the same, you knew the words I felt okay to write.
Probably their best recording....
Best vibrato & backwards guitar solo since the days of George Harrison & Hendrix.
There's a backwards guitar solo!?
@@naturalnashuan if it isn't backwards, it's made to sound backwards. Like the Beatles did on revolver era tracks like "Taxman" and "Tomorrow Never Knows"
Canciones cono esta lo han hecho un gran grupo!
Excellent beginning and ending aa well.
Favorite REM song
Last line of the song is "I never understood... don't fuck with me." I love it.
BRUTAL 👏🙌👊🔥🔥🔥 GREETINGS FROM PORTUGAL 🇵🇹
Só many thanks from São Paulo Brazil
You are simply the best
Mesmerizing.
Tune 💥
the best scene in the film "Under the Silver Lake"
true. Very nostalgic
well the best scene was the one with the pianist but this was the best song forsure
The trademark Beatles guitar sound. Gets me everytime.
I was just thinking how the bass playing sounds a bit like Revolver era McCartney.
@lefteris8025 hmm. I don’t have the CD and I can’t see that in those I find pics of online. You mean in the same pattern that makes up the tiger on the cover, or something unique to the disc itself?
@lefteris8025 or is this an elaborate joke? Lol
This one goes out to the one and only Kenneth haight
man, love this!!

Great Rock and Roll music
The epitome of Grunge. Excellent. - Hunter
Well ya learn something every day 😮
So, so good!🔥
best REM song
He come up with the lyrics from something that happened to Dan rather News man. Sometime back in the 80s some man on the street started beating Dan screaming what's the frequency Kenneth? True story supposedly. A great song came out of it.
Epic of the epic ❤️👌
I remember getting an interactive CD-ROM wbw of Monster, it had this tune on it. Also included a weird short for something called Migraine Boy or smth. V werid and v of its time.
The true story behind this song is fascinating and scary
November 2024.
They were a brilliant band and 'Feel the heat' was a ripper album
I was 13yo, still amazing to listen ❤️🔥
Check out the story behind this song on RUclips channel....Spektator-What's the frequency Kenneth?
Why go there? Ask Dan Rather hinself
Must admit; the *original* master sounds just as pristine
One of the most underrated song!
I come here for the x1.25 version. The finest sound available anywhere.
Another little masterpiece
Heard this at the Tavern, over their blaring thumping stereo. Good times.
Sorry I'm just here because this version didn't censor out the don't fuck with me.
RUclips seems to have cut back on censoring words, it's nice.
“I never understood, don’t fuck with me.” Basically my life’s story.
Don’t f- with me is kinda cool but not necessary. It’s a comment for many, but choose a better way of expressing yourself mike. Don’t f-k with you, Michael Stipe,, really? I love the song!!
@@mizztery2994 hey mizz,, I really don’t think he breaks up fre quen cy,, but anyway, I appreciate your response! We hear and interpret things differently and that’s okay. I just thought it was unnecessary. As an aside, I’m the world’s biggest John Lennon fan and on working class hero he said f-- , twice. Im disappointed. But, that’s just me. Again, unnecessary. I do respect your opinion.
REM soothes your mother-in-law. Always.
Such a great single.
🤔 ------🐰,📻, 🎼, 📺, 🎥, 📰
I never understood the frequency unless they were Explaining it piece by piece
Pure class
Man this song was rocks!
Not an REM fan by any means, but I love this song.
My favourite REM song could be a Beatles song off Revolver
BAD ASS!!!!!!!
I can't ever listen to this song just once.
Thank you Dan Rather for taking one for the team.
