    SAFETY:
    Here at Warm Glass UK, we only use Bio-soluble fibre paper. Bio-soluble Fibre Paper is not the same as Ceramic Fibre (which we have never sold). The fibre paper we sell is made from an Alkaline-earth Silicate Wool, unlike Ceramic Fibre, AES Wool is biosoluble and if inhaled does not accumulate in the lungs. This is an excellent and safer alternative to ceramic fibre but it will not withstand the higher temperatures required for processes such as pot melts. Whilst AES is considerably safer to use than Ceramic Fibre, it can be itchy so we recommend using a FFP3 Dust Mask and cleaning up using a vacuum with a HEPA filter. Hi! Thanks for the introduction to kilncarving that I was looking for! Also, thank you for the resources available on your website. I found the document from Bullseye there and have looked it over. One thing you might want to mention, that they mention, is safety. This is from that document...
    HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTES:
    WORKING WITH CERAMIC FIBER PAPER
    Ceramic fiber paper can act as an irritant to the
    respiratory system and should be handled with
    caution.
    • Avoid contact with skin.
    • Avoid breathing residual fiber. It is best to wear a
    respirator designed to filter out particulates.
    • Brush the unfired paper surface or loose fibers only
    in a well-ventilated area or out of doors.
    • During its first firing, the paper will give off a small
    amount of smoke and aroma. This is the organic
    binder burning out. Good ventilation in your studio
    area will ensure that the odor and smoke will
    dissipate quickl

      Hi Laura, thanks for your comment, safety is very important when using Ceramic Fibre Paper. Here at Warm Glass UK we only use Biosoluble fibre paper. @@warmglassuk Thank you! That's great to know. Maybe you could add that info to the video info box in case someone is a newbie and doesn't know the difference. Maybe even a link to the fibre paper you sell. 💖

    In the example of the nautilus shell, do you sprinkle your frit or powder on for color at the same time you're doing the kiln carving in the same firing? Thanks, this is very creative.

      Hi Kristy, yes you would sprinkle frit or powder on at the same time 😊

    Why do you kiln wash the fibre? Is it reusable?

    • @warmglassuk
      @warmglassuk  4 года назад

      Hi Michelle, this is so that the fibre paper easily releases from the glass when it's fused

      @@warmglassuk it's just I thought it was release agent in itself, so thanks! I would have used it bare! Would the pig (or wharever) be reusable?

    • @warmglassuk
      @warmglassuk  4 года назад +1

      @@michellestack4040 You're welcome! The fibre paper usually burns off slightly in the kiln so would not be reusable. We do offer a product called SilkeMat which is a more reusable alternative but slightly harder to cut to shape for kiln carvings: www.warm-glass.co.uk/silkemat-fibre-blanket-p-6315.html
