You're absolutely right about that discord thing and it doesn't get better if people invite you.
I got invited to a discord party once by a friendly player and although he warned me about it beforehand, I really underestimated his friends trust issues.
He constantly accused me of being out to kill him. I shrugged it off for a while, remained friendly and tried to earn some trust by helping him out whenever possible.
What really broke the camels back was me attempting to rescue him in Berenzino, where some other dude got me first, stole most of my gear, and then killed him afterwards in my recognizable yellow Raincoat. Things got really toxic after that.
I just left and haven't teamed up since although I'm still open to it. People killing and betraying you ingame isn't fun but that sjit happens. At the very least they have the decency to dissapear afterwards.
Ah dang that is rough! Yep happens for sure. I always get cold feet even when friendly people go "oh yeah I am going to meet my discord friend" 😂

I ran into a guy when I just killed a chicken. Im a relatively new character. Had a couple of fire arms and stab vest.
He was dying of starvation so I split the chicken with him. Gave him a handgun. Now were friends on ps5. Cool experience
Later another player came up to us. My friend tried talking to him on the 🎤. He didn't respond and he blasted him with the pistol I gave him lol.

I play since 2014 and played different styles/roles (Bandit, hero etc).
If you approach to players and try to team up with them for short-term goals, for example looting together a specific military base, etc. theres a trick which always worked for me to not getting backstabbed.
Once u get into a conversation and u both decide to go together to location xyz, say something like "Oh and btw if we dont find some good loot there, i also have 2 buried stashes with some useful loot in it, we can gear us up there too".
If he is a bandit and planned to betray you, at least now he will wait for his ambush until you showed him ur "buried stash".
If he gets too interested and starts asking stuff like "oh, what exactly do u have there?", its a red flag for me. He probably wants to know that so he can decide if its worth the hustle to wait and act friendly for that long. I always answer smth like "oh i dont exactly remember tbh, but i definitely have a few rifles, mags and some ammos there"
Once u have looted the militarybase together, and ur "short-term-mate" doesnt have any other usage for u, its time to lose him. I pretend to direct him to my buried stash, walk close to a small village and say "oh i could need some nails because im planning to expand my stash and make a small base, lets look in the village there if we find some". And then, while he walks in a house or smth else, i pretend to keep searching other houses, slowly getting some distance between us and then just run. Yes, ofc it would be easier to just shoot him and get rid of him.
But the kos-playstyle is lame and too easy imo. Its way more tense to try to stay friendly as long as possible.
Depending on the exact situation, u might have to use other lies to distract ur mate. I never trust anyone and only team up for short-term goals and after that, i want to stay alone.
Idk why my playstyle changed. A few years ago, i always played in a 6-man-squad and we had a lot of fun together. All of em quitted dayz after a while, since then, im a lone wolf. And tbh, i prefer to stay a lone wolf. Maybe its because im getting too old😅

Im quite new to the game and ive gone through the ringer of betrayals so far. One of them i got bounded up and shot the other i got help with a bandage then fed infected human flesh then shot as i ran away. Its a cruel world out there. Now in the process of teaming up which will undoubtably be a rocky long no process too as i have developed real trust issues after that lol

i was playing Sahkal, ran into a guy i was trying to sneak up on his smoking chimney but he was actually waiting outside and saw me first. That was a red flag maybe he wanted to lure in players. He asked me if i had a gun or weapon i said no and he said alright come by the fire and we'll leave after. When we left we ran into a duo who were running as bandits. they told us we could all run together till we hit a certain city. about a town away and we needed to make a fire and fish. we had been all running together for like 2 plus hours. i sat down at a fireplace with one of the bandits. My original teammate went to the police station for loot. i go afk for a few minutes just gaining heat buff. The bandit duo are mid conversation about something i heear a gunshot and im dead. I think my original buddy found a gun at the police station and killed all of us.

So couple of stories.
First time I actually encountered someone, I had just spawned in after dieing, again, I was looting the town, found a bat and some snacks, started getting attacked by a Zombie when what I thought was a second one showed up. So I booked it to the nearest structure which was a small wood shed and hopped on it. One of the Zombies hopped on it and I panicked and took a couple of swings at it before I realized that the other Zombie couldn't jump up, that's when I realized the "Zombie I was whacking was actually another player XD . I then jumped down and took care of the Zombie since the other person was unarmed. By way of an apology, I left em the bag of snack sticks I'd found then left the town shortly after.
My most recent one was that I'd actually managed to get a somewhat decent start and managed to push inland. After walking a for a bit, I found a Military Checkpoint. At first, there weren't any Zombies around, then four of them just popped up out of no where XD . I had a sharpened stick and used a couple of Military Trucks to hop on top of, staying out of range of the Zombies. I killed them and while I was checking the bodies a player ran up. No Mic, just jumping around. I didn't have a mic either so I tried using the gestures to communicate with them. Deciding to be friendly, I approached him, still had my makeshift spear out though just in case. Guess he thought I was gonna try and kill him, cause he then backed away from me. I dropped a net I found earlier as a peace offering and started to back away, when all of a sudden he pulled out a hand gun and shot me. I think he fired five shots but only hit three or something cause it didn't kill me I then started to run away when I heard his gun click on empty. I turned around to try and diffuse the situation, when another Zombie came sprinting up behind him. He ran into a tent, and I briefly considered running away, but no one deserves to get eaten by zombies, so I ran over, the guy ran back out the tent, fallowed shortly by the Zombie and I started stabbing the Zombie with my stick. I managed to kill it, but I was pretty badly wounded. I gestured to the guy that he could have what ever and started walking off down the road. Surprisingly, he let me go, didn't even fallow me. Not that it made much difference XD . Fallowed the road and river a little further and came across a small house. Unfortunately there were a couple of Zombies around it, and I guess my stick broke in the fight earlier, cause it didn't block when I tried to block and died in like two hits XD .
So now I'm on my next try, and again, off to a decent start n_n .
I enjoy these stores 😁 that's what DayZ is all about!

Me walks into a small house on the coast thinking I’m alone. Guy with sawed off runs in after me. (I know I’m going to die I wanna see how it plays out tho). He’s abnormally nice forcing me to take food cuz I’m starving. We chat for a bit he was actually pretty cool. He pauses to drop something on the other side of the room for me. He places a pelican case I open it and it’s full of human meat. I say “oh my”. I turn around to see the sawed off in my face. DEAD. 10/10 love stupid interactions like this it’s what makes the game fun! 😂😂

Just to show how shallow the trust pool is I’ve got hundreds of hours invested in the game and I’ve only ever encountered actual friendlies twice. One of them I even almost shot but he got attacked by an infected and I jumped in to help. He asked if I had a mic to which I said no and he replied “Ok. Take care bro” and abruptly ran off lol The only other friendly was again someone I randomly came across fighting infected and helped. But they ended up not sticking around either. I will say jumping in to help players when they get swarmed is a good way to earn trust but even then it’s a shaky truce…as on another occasion a player helped me. He could have waited to see if the infected got me or shot me while I was fighting them. But no. This sick bastard helped me…chatted with me for a sec…then as we parted ways he shot me in the back. Just goes to show. He was probably testing to see if I had a group nearby. Either way he knew I was no threat. That was just for shits n giggles really. Be cautious at ALL times no matter how friendly they may be lol

Me and my buddy were on a hardcore server we had run into 2 guys and teamed up we ran all inland finding gear (they were actually friendly and really good people) I started feeding them human meat I did the first guy then the second guy and I blamed it on my friend then I fed myself and blamed them and so he killed his friend and when his back was turned.... well you know what happened

I agree sorta. But I think he means the obvious stuff. If someone is intentionally using "racial" slurs for the lulz. They're probably not all that intelligent to begin with so why would I run with them.

I think the concern is the maturity of the person. I ran with a guy _(who I went to high school with in real life whom everyone in our friend group knew to be extremely hyper, impulsive and racist/homophobic/sexist/etc.)._ The guy often ruined positive interactions we had with other players [either by killing them or being toxic] and even got us suspended on some servers due to guilt by association. He'd also do stupid shit like give away our positions with a megaphone. It's embarrassing, really. But back to the video.. the concern, again, is the person's intelligence and maturity. If someone acts like a loose cannon then I probably don't want to run with them. I run with relaxed people only.

We was wuth eachtoher for days then his friend bought game and they were some toxic and in end when we build base jacob shot me in back and now they rule that base.
He also (i managed to save guy) he shot him in back of head after giving him medical help. That was might red flag there
Oh wow, yeah big red flags. Sometimes I want to believe they can be good, but they turn out bad.
Easy solution...I never use a mike, and if I come across somebody, immediate pvp, him or me...

I wouldn't consider it a true betrayal but we were working on our base and one of our friends went afk so we fed him human meat until he got kuru, but we let him off himself and went to pick up his new spawn after, just for laughs

I want to be real with you if they start off Shady they will end you shady I want saw a dude crouching behind me, sneaking up on me, caught him in the act pointed my gun at him, but decided to spare him and begin to look for loop with him because he acted chill after that gave him shotgun shells, and he killed me with them and took my loot

I betray 90% of players or KOS, i rarely trust anyone, my crew is comprised of people that either gave me a chance or i gave them one which is once in a blue moon.
Unfortunatley majority of console players treat dayz as a battle royale.
I do hear console is a bit different.

I play on XBox, and I'm always frinedly. What I'd like to do is start up like a Merchant Camp or something. I know, I'd get killed a lot, but eh, worth a try n_n .
Everyone except for myself must of been either fucked over or shot or raided,like dude,iv had my old base raided 3 times,packed up moved to another location

I ran with a guy for 2 - 3 hours once. We made it all the way to VMC. We were nothing but positive. Dude shot me at a military base for no reason.
There was also a time when I ran with two guys and one shot me. The dummy didn't notice I was struggling out of my rope, and I was able to take my Glock out and blast him, take his MP7 and shoot his buddy. I didn't win that fight because the MP7 jammed, but at least I got one of the guys and got a laugh out of how oblivious he was to me breaking out of my rope until it was too late.
Dang! The second story though, nice I call that a win!
