You need a health plan to pay for the drug. 'Ziaflex'. The treatment by the Dr. is covered by provincial health plans. In Alberta it is approximately $1500.00

Even though I feel that my doctor should've used lidocaine as you did in the video, the results are astounding. Now, over a year later, my finger is straight, I have full mobility, and there is no pain whatsoever. I highly recommend this procedure, and would be happy to offer photos before and after.

    Hi dear Doctor.
Wishing you all success and health,I would be more than grateful if you just let me know where you are based and how much is charged for mild to moderate contracture of all five figures of both hands.
It would be very nice of you if you provide you phone number as well.
    I'm physician myself.
    Thank you ever so much

I am a 50+ year old female. Twenty years ago I was diagnosed with Dupuytren's Contracture in both palms. The nodules were very painful. I developed nodules on every finger except the thumb on both hands. I was successfully treated with nothing more than a steroid injection into each nodule every week for 4-6 weeks. I can't remember the exact time frame. The nodules went away and my hand returned to normal with the exception of two puffy spots between the ring finger and pinkie on each hand. The condition has not returned. Not sure how expensive Xiaflex is, but the steroid shots were fairly inexpensive. And yes, the shots are more painful than anything I have ever experienced, including childbirth and a scorpion sting in the tender middle of the foot. Yikes!!

We usually give patients an injection of lidocaine, not only prior to the Xiaflex injection, but also when they come back in a couple of days for the manipulation treatment to break the cord open. You are correct, without lidocaine injection, it would be very painful.

Had the xiaflex injection 5 days ago, want to today to have it manipulated back in shape, my advice....get it frozen, i choose not to, extremely painful, so painful i didnt let the surgeon finish, got it about 60 percent straighten, should have got it numbed.

Had this done two weeks ago. The injections are the most painful I've ever experienced and when my hand was pulled straight, thought I was going to pass out with extreme pain. Watched the procedure on you tube first and thought it looked good. They don't warn you about the pain involved. My consultant is the very best you can get but I will only have this done again if they put me to sleep first.

unbelieavable Xiaflex was available in Australia and NZ, but the Therapeutics Good adminstration took it off the list of treatable options. 5 % of Australians end up with Dupuytrens! go figure. Very upsetting to know I have to leave Australia if I want to get Xiaflex. Our healthcare is one of the worst in the world. Very conservative, almost backwards in thinking and treatment.

I didn't get lidocaine for the injection, or a bandage afterwards. I was told my second appointment must be a week later, so I have that in a few days. This was at a VA hospital.

@ljmcdonald Yes, you can get it fixed. First, try a simple needle breakage of the chord without Xiaflex. This is done by Dr. Charles Eaton in Jupiter Florida and by doctors he has taught. He learned it in France. The chord in your hand can be broken by two little knitting needles in 4 or five places and then stretched out after to get a similar straight finger extension. Xiaflex has risks of swelling and tendon rupture not found with Dr. Eaton's NA method. Also, it costs much less, under $1,000.

Did anyone wait a full week to come back after the injection??

In some cases NA is the best procedure and in others Xiaflex. I went to a hand surgeon who had treated hundreds of patients with NA and more than a hundred with Xiaflex. I asked him which was best in my specific case. I saw other doctors and they had little experience with NA or Xiaflex and I did not trust them to make an informed judgment on which treatment to use or trust their skill level with their limited amount of experience. Drug company approves unqualified doctors for Xiaflex admin.

I had this done last year. My contracture was slight, although becoming painful. The Doc did not numb my hand for either the injections or the manipulations, but the pain was bearable for me and didn't last longer than the procedure. Everyone has a different pain tolerance. I had great results.

I had NA procedure in CA and X-ray treatment in Germany in 2007. Xiaflex done in 2011. Each time I searched to find best doctor with the most experience. Dr. Denkler did the NA and Xiaflex. He has treated hundreds of patients using NA and Xiaflex. He said Xiaflex was safer in this case to avoid damage to nerves in the area. I visited four other surgeons on both NA and Xiaflex before driving to Denkler's. It made all the difference in the world in terms of the outcome and the cost was the same.

Xiaflex is not approved in every country. Surgery is the most well-established treatment, and still the gold standard to which every other treatment (Needle Aponeurotomy and Xiaflex) is compared. We are now getting 3 year updated results from Xiaflex treatments, and it seems the recurrence rate is about 18-20% by 3 years. This may seem high, but when you compare it to the time that it takes to recover from surgery (6-10 weeks), it is still a good option for many patients.

I meant the needle procedure (NA) costs under a grand. Thanks for the warning on the Xiaflex.

My contracture was a lot more pronounced on my little finger. I had researched this condition, and came across your video. I located an approved physician in my area for the Xiaflex procedure and was scheduled for the procedure. On the day of the injection, I asked about lidocaine, and he said he did not numb the area because it would interfere with him locating the cord. During the injections, it really hurt-very painful. The next day prior to snapping the cords, he did numb it.
