I had a lot of ups and downs during my retirement planning, especially the market downturns in 2008 and 2012. Fortunately I was able to make up everything that was lost and then some. I retired last Friday (12/13) and today is my first “work” day of retirement. It was a great last day on Friday and a nice party/hockey game afterwards. My first weekend was great knowing I wasn’t going back to work on Monday. Now a long Christmas holiday celebration with family who are coming in today and later this week.
I retire on the 20th. 4 days left. I know I will be fine but anxiety hits when I wonder what I will do. Fortunately I am taking gunsmithing courses to keep my brain occupied.
I agree with you. Disaster can come at any time weather your working or not working. While you are working you think you can work yourself out of your problems. In reality you are never safe in life. You just get more tired more often and sooner.
Merry Christmas Steve, enjoy the season, friends and family. Your talk reminded me of my youth and the holidays my grandparents shared. Grandma fixed her famous roast, mashed potato and green beans. Once in a while she would pull out a chocolate cake but there was always the macandcheese we all wish we could duplicate. At the farm if all of the cousins came, we drew names, otherwise gifts were not a thing. Only one of my grandmothers worked but the letter in my desk was a retirement decision builder. Are you still going out there? she asked. Nope, enjoying a couple years with the grands before they are grown. Thankful the storms left us a mess to clean and the roof still over our head. Happy New Year to all, I will pray for our peace, wisdom, family and happiness
Thanks Steve, watching your videos feels like going to a retirement counseling session. I mean this in the best way, you are great, dispensing nuggets of wisdom to folks in your RUclips community. Have a great day, doc, Merry Christmas.
You’re right, you can’t plan for everything so don’t worry about everything. When things happen, it’s how you react is what matters. Agree retirement gets better & better.
Merry Christmas, Steve, to you, and to your family. I retired mid-2024, at 64.3 YO, after 47+, continuous, years, of work. Work wasn’t terrible, but life was slipping by…😊
Being in retirement is safer than doing the type of work I was doing. Getting hurt was one of my reasons to retire. You dont bounce back from injuries when your old like when your young. Pluss all those small injuries add up over 48 years of work. Doesnt take much to reinjure yourself. So I retired before I suffered a huge injury.
@@deanrotering879 Indeed. I have had a broken toe, a broken rib, 3 herniated disk in my back a fractured hip, bad knees, neck issue and lost 2 fingers in the last 48 years. all work related.
Good morning and Happy Holidays, Steve. There's always something on the to-do list. I was thinking 2024 was a rough year, then Google sent me a montage of my 2024 photos, and i was reminded of so many good things. It perked me right up. 😂 Is it sad i got a pick me up from Google of all things. 😂 Merry Christmas!
It’s amazing to me how with even a week off from the grind of Corporate America how much better I feel - I can almost feel the stress draining from my body! I can’t imagine how it must feel when you know it’s forever……….🥳
My husband and I are worries too. But, I'm so thankful I listened to him and we hung it up going on 18 years next year, ages 64 and 74. Haven't regretted it for a moment 😊 Something to think about that my wise husband says- You can't get time back and every day is your best day ( since generally we don't get healthier with age). Blessings to all and Merry Christmas!

Ride the high as long as you can. Congrats.

@ Congrats on your retirement as well. Looks like a huge retirement class.
Good words of wisdom. You do the best you can do to prepare and then you take the leap of faith & retire. It is stepping into the unknown

I can’t wait for my first day of the lifetime stress relief program ‘ aka retirement’ to begin August 2026 hope to have ya ring the bell for me then…

You don’t bounce back as fast. Isn’t that the truth! Great comment.

True about that bouncing back. One day looking down 20 ft to the floor I just wanted to go home
Thank you.
Merry Christmas Mr. Steve! Thanks for your videos!!
Good word Steve. Merry Christmas!
Worrying is a misuse of imagination.

Always love the look back videos!! Gain confidence every day!! Have a Merry Christmas Mr. Steve! As always keep them coming!!!
I’m glad I’m really tired of working otherwise all this planning and wondering would drive me nuts.😂😂

Good advice. My honey do list is never-ending 😂. Thanks. Have a Merry Christmas. 🎅
Haven’t retired yet. I’m a worrier….how does one retire without thinking of future economy, SS cuts, market downturns, etc
I’m like you in that way but we’ll just have to “jump” when the time comes.
All i can do is my best. I say the serenity prayer often. It helps me. And then in my head I sing that tune... don't worry, be happy... 😂

Great video Steve!
🫡 Thank you!
Hi Steve. Headed back to Minnesota. Was down in Destin doing some fishing with the boy.
I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened. (Mark Twain, I think)
