The 25th Anniversary Hawk is one of my favorite figures from the Modern line, unquestionably. He truly looks commanding.
I really like this. A quick compare and contrast is very interesting!
So do I.
Great job on this review! Please do more comparison like this. Great review HCC788!!
Good review & great figure. Being a former Marine myself, I came to appreciate when the figures reflect more of a realworld look. Good stuff I say. *Yo Joe!!!*
Ooo RAH
Former 31st MEU Special Ops Capable here - USS BELLEAU WOOD
@@totalrobot Nice & Semper Fi! It truly is a small world. I was with the 11th MEU (Special Operation Capabel) Command Element & was on the USS Belleau Wood as well. During my last float we had elements on the Comstock & Denver as well. If I'm not mistaken the Denver has been decommissioned since then though.
Thanks for sharing with us! I like some of the added detail on the new figure! The battle ribbons are a nice touch! Are they accurate to some of the GI Joe battle ribbons, I wonder? I feel like we as fans are putting more and more pressure on you with these reviews. Please know, I personally think you're doing a great job with the vintage reviews, and while I appreciate the extra effort with the comparison reviews, no extra pressure to keep up on them! I see them as a nice suprise, and am thankful for them just lime your vintage reviews! So, thanks to you and your family, and Larry for the donations! Keep up the great work!
This was awesome, you gotta do more of these. Well done.
Great work like always bro! Keep up the good work and thank you very much
I just LOVE this, Bryan. Thanks for doing it.
YES! A great new era for the channel has begun!
I've been wanting to get the modern version, he looks even better out of the package. Im glad that you did this.
I think they changed Hawks hair color to differentiate him from Duke. I remember in the comics I could never tell the difference between Hawk and Duke and which was which.
Nice figures and nice video.
I love these
2008 General Hawk, is a masterpiece
they can go somewhere with that “ G I Joe Hawk “ though
I owned the vintage version 2 Hawk when I was a kid. I bought it back again last year in C-9 condition, loose/complete, for around $11! I do like the new updated figure with all of the better sculpting and articulation, but, I'm a big fan of the vintage version 2 Hawk. I think it would've been cool to have a place to holster the pistol on the vintage version. I didn't ever really think about it until I watched this video. I hope you can do more vintage and modern figure comparison videos like this in the future.
I like when you do the comparison videos. I understand that you try to just do the vintage line. I try to get vintage when I can but also like the new figures. Great video
Only want 2008 Hawk for the helmet. That was (imo) the best change.
Both great figures
I have been trying to get my hands on a carded modern Hawk great figure love it!!
The hair change was for kids at the time to differentiate duke and hawk
Slavin Ben I think it was a great change besides hardly anybody knew about the original hawk.
Nice comparison very cool looking forward to more of these types of videos I'd like to hear your take on modern vs vintage even though you prefer vintage
Cool comparison
OG Hawk is the only Hawk.
Loved the comparisons between the figures. I've been persuaded to consider it on my channel as well. Like you though, I'll always prefer the vintage ones.
For the hair color change, how about saying he bleached his hair when he formed the Joe team to drop off any radar that he was heading up a secret task force. By the time he reached general, his roots had turned back, and the cat was out of the bag by then. Tiger Force Duke's hair change.... well, he fell in some mud.
...maybe he was pushed.
The thing I like about the Orginal Hawk VS new, is General Hawk looked older even as a figure, its something you can tell when looking at his hair color, its slightly faded brown, as if it is greying slightly, and his face sculpt does show a bit of age in it. Hawk shouldnt be a young looking character like in the 2008 "modern" one (Modern ha, 2019 here), especially with the Rank of General in a top secret spec op international team. This shows he has experience to back up the rank and can properly lead the GI Joe Team.
You are amazing
You are!
HoodedCobraCommander788 it is amazing to talk to you
All though i never had 86 hawk only had the 90 version as kid... Mordern hawk is a great update from vitange hawk especially the face, helmet and leather jacket details.
GI JOE 2008 👍👍
Hawk was a good leader of gi joe. I just wish they would made the other leaders commission officers too. This is how I would have made there ranks. 1. General Hawk. 2. Major Duke 3. Captain Flint 4. First Lt. Beachhead/ Scarlett
Have to admit the modern Hawk looks good. Definitely better than some of the other modern figures that look like unappealing anorexic stick figures with out of proportion long legs. Good video HCC788!
Well, there's one thing they didn't fix--the holster is sitting too high. If he did draw from there, he'd knock himself in the jaw. It's even worse on the modern figure. I think they're trying to go for something like Frostbite's chest holster, but it's riding too high. The rest looks good.
Hawk 86 has brown hair because he is based off of General Hawk from the cartoon not the comic. I agree, I will always go vintage first. Hasbro did some decent recasts of some figs in the early 2000s. Some are even new characters made from various parts of older figs so you can easily swell your ranks. Like others have said I find the modern alien looking and some of them are over articulated. That weird bend mid torso just makes them look freakish.
788, Great vid though, thanks for posting.
Those the vitruvian hacks figure are the same size of the gi Joe original figure or modern
How many vehicles are there for the modern G.I.Joes ? And are they as well detailed as thier counterparts?
i like the vintage line more overall, but by no means am i a modern hater. to me, this is a one sided win for the modern era. i never liked the vintage hawk (and i still don't) but his modern update is a worthy figure in any collection.
I always thought the 1986 version of Hawk looked a bit like Andy Griffith in the face.
So, why did they change the name to “GI Joe Hawk”?
ouffff.... the vintage version looks like a toy in comparison.
like you, I would have preferred a blond hair cut, the v 2 cut was too long, it was not like the original Hawk.
the proportions of the 08 v looks so much better, in certain perspectives, it must look as a real person in pictures.
for nostalgia, the vintage is good, as a fig, the 08 wins by far.
good show Commander!
If only the modern figures fit better into the vehicles and playsets
Can you do a video for the microphone of the USS flag and each video of the sounds. So one sound and one video a couple of times. And so on and so on. For all three sound. That way the ones that do not have the microphone like me myself. Can’t show. Are young ones the sound. Separately many many times over and over again thank you
I like the new one a bit better but his boots are too far up...
The newer versions are a little too long-legged for my tastes.
That two piece chest on the modern figures doesn't set well with me.
Vintage is superior in every way. They hold their weapons. They're not rubbery. Their proportions are more realistic. Their quality was consistent. And most of all, they were durable.
I've got a box full of these new ones. In less that ten years time, they already gave us 41 versions of Snake Eyes. They've got that weird swivel in the middle of their chest which is an absolute abomination. They look like they've been put through the taffy puller with those ridiculous proportions. I've got at least a half dozen which have already come apart at the knees either because the plastic is so soft or else the factory just slopped through their production. They're just garbage. They're a carbon copy of the vintage line and they have no soul whatsoever. They were made to stand on a shelf, look pretty and collect dust. In fifteen years, nobody will care anything about them, but the vintage line will still be selling strong and will still be commanding top prices.
