Another impressive breakdown. Thanks!
Thanks, really appreciate it!
I don’t know. I feel like he’s rising because he has a brother playing in the NBA. I’m getting Bronny James vibes from this draft selection. I’m not saying he won’t be good, I just think it will take time.
Jalen being in the NBA helps, but Cody's a really talented prospect in his own right. He'd be a lottery pick, or thereabouts, in most drafts imo. I agree it'll take some time though, especially in terms of being a higher volume shooter.
Another spring as a raptors fan - time to fire up floor and ceiling
Sounds like the move lol
Good vidoe.
Look like a Piston we need wings bad
Agreed on the wings point. If Detroit can draft Cody, Zaccharie Risacher or Matas Buzelis, I’d be feeling good. Pistons need a wing-sized player who can play off the ball and also potentially develop down the line into someone who can get ballhandling reps.
@@FloorandCeiling agree really need a pf that can space floor attack close outs help side and perimeter defend but any wing a upgrade
Cody Williams has a nice build altho slim and is an especially nice ball handler for his size, but he’s not super athletic and has kind of limited burst. Self creation is pretty nice and he’s great with working screens but overall I’m not incredibly impressed and the low athletic profile prob keeps him late lottery-a little lower for me. Would like to see the jumper/middy consistency improve as well. But yeah the basketball IQ and processing is obviously there and he gets really “easy” shots at the rim from reading the D so well
Like you said, good build so I expect him to get stronger. With that added strength plus improved ballhandling (this should come once he's in the NBA) and his touch, I think he'll get even better close to the basket. He does need to add more to his game off the bounce, however, particularly as a jump shooter since he's pretty hesitant in that area right now.
As of today, I have him in the late-ish lottery as well (currently #12-14 on my big board), but I could see him continuing to climb. Really like what you said about his processing since that rings very true.
@@FloorandCeiling He is going top 3 and please stop listening to these fools saying he isn’t athletic that’s the biggest bs ive ever heard dude is a beast
@@bkelly625Top 3? Idk about that fam. Sarr, Topic, Risacher (I love his game), Ja’kobe Walters, Ron Holland and Matas Buzelis will all go before him. Maybe even Reed Sheppard, now that’s a dawg right there.
@@MrKwatts27 Most mocks have him 1-5 now so….
@@bkelly625 Really? On tankathon, they have him going 8. I mean, if he goes higher. Kudos for him. I just like the others I named a little better, that’s all🤷🏾♂️
great breakdown! his playmaking leaves alot to be desired for me he misses basic reads out of some of these pick and rolls and for a guy that is so dependent on driving to the rim to create offenae it kind of scares me
Thanks and fair point! Cody is primarily a slasher right now and he’s not overly creative or explosive, so I can definitely understand the concerns there. Ultimately, I’m betting on his decision making, touch, and length to offset those things while his handle continues to develop.
I also agree with you that he needs to continue growing as a playmaker. In a more secondary role on a team, it’s probably fine to an extent if he doesn’t develop much. With his tools, he’ll probably be able to push off misses and bring his team up the floor. But definitely in the half court, he needs more polish (both with his passing but also pull-up shooting). Thanks for watching! 🙏
He and Reed Sheppard are the safest picks.
I agree about Cody, but I actually think Reed might be pretty risky. I’ll have a video on him soon. Thanks for watching!
Would be a great SG option for Orlando if he falls to 18
Can’t see him falling out of the lottery really, and even that is a stretch
I see it almost impossible for Cody Williams not to be in lottery positions.
He looks like an interesting player, but quite raw. He is incisive towards the rim; he knows how to use both hands well, is quick, has height and handles the ball well. I also like the way he moves without the ball.
But his shooting mechanics are slow, both from 2 and 3 and you can see that he doesn't like to shoot, preferring penetration.
On defense he has wingspan, but he doesn't defend well.
As I said he will need a couple of years in the GLeague.
He definitely prefers to do most of his work in transition, where he excels right now (I think he's in the 99th percentile for that) but he needs to show more self-creation off the dribble as a shooter. Everything with his shot looks good, so I believe Cody will get there but it'll take some time.
He isn’t that raw he might go number one lol
@@bkelly625 He's raw, but he's one of the best prospects in the draft.
@@licenciadobrubaker He’s averaging 15.4ppg on 60% from the field and 52% from 3 which is absurd efficiency and is a very good defender and shows some passing ability. He has two elite older players on his team or else he would score more. Last 3 games he’s really starting to shine. He won’t need years in the g league he’s an elite prospect and his brother is a beast who is the protégé of SGA and Cody work out with them in the offseason. I think that matters a ton even though many ppl downplay that type of stuff this situation is different
@@bkelly625 OK, but you have to remember that his brother played 3 seasons in the NCAA and Cody is only going to play 1. And in those three years Jalen improved his game a lot (from 7.7 to 18.0 points; from 2.8 to 4.4 rebounds; from 1.9 to 4.2 assists and with better 2, 3 and free throws).
That's why I think that although Cody looks very interesting to me he's going to need some time to shine at the next level.
Jalen Rose 2.0
How so?
@@FloorandCeiling Rose fits his profile almost to a tee. A big ball handling playmaker who isn't necessarily equipped to be a full time PG but could fill that role intermittently. Who ultimately serves as a pressure release for a true #1 option.
Offensively, dude moves kinda like Dominique Wilkins did. Not as talented overall ofc but a WIlkins and Siakam hybrid. Doesn't seem to rebound well but can make plays and score. Good defensive potential too but not DPOY talent. Again thats Siakam
I'm also looking for Cody to rebound better. He has the size and length to add more in this department. He's not going to be a monster since his pop and twitch are limited, but he can definitely still get better.
Like you said, he's someone you can count on to make plays offensively (quickly and decisively, which I like - he doesn't pound the air out of the ball) and he'll hold up defensively even if he isn't spectacular. Thanks for watching 🙏
Is he better than Ziaire Williams? Should Grizzlies consider him if they end up in late lottery?
I think he's more or less the same caliber prospect as Ziaire, although I was higher on Ziaire than most in all fairness.
Ziaire had more juice shooting off the dribble, but he was worse at the rim and struggled a lot with efficiency. He did have some situations in his personal life as a freshman at Stanford, though, so that's to be taken into account also.
The Grizzlies should definitely consider Cody. He has what you want in an NBA prospect nowadays with his size, length, touch, ballhandling, and decision making. Hopefully he starts taking more threes as the rest of the season continues so that we know more about his outside shooting, but I think it profiles well. Thanks for watching!
Is he a better forward than risacher? I have more interests in risacher and expect to see more about this guy
I like Risacher more right now, mostly because I think he’s a better and more versatile three-point shooter, I think he’s shown more on defense (although in a different context), and he’s shown more self-creation off the dribble as a shooter. This last area came 2-3 seasons ago and at youth levels, but it’s something that I think potentially can be tapped into down the line even if it’s not his current role in France.
I’ll have a video on Risacher soon breaking him down more. Thanks for watching 🙏
How do you watch film on these nba prospects?
I just watch the games really. There's other tools out there such as Synergy which NBA, pro, college, and high school teams use, but that's outside of my budget.
I see some mock drafts putting him on the Spurs and this confused me because he has to be really good to take precedent over their need for a playmaking guard or another defensive big to take bumps for Wemby.
Spurs have potentially 2 lottery picks since they have a top 6 protected pick from the Raptors. With the trade today Raptors won't be drafting top 6. Spurs can still get their PG with their pick. My ideal draft as of now is Topic and Reed Shepard. Or Topic and Cody Williams.
@@gabrielcarrasco9078I've been keeping an eye on Sheppard recently. His floor spacing and court vision would do wonders for this anemic Spurs offense.
@kronmeicrumbs Even beyond that he's a menace on defense. Pop would love him honestly. Only real issues are physical and isn't great going to the rim. He's just average athletically and is only 6'3". Bur defense and shooting are elite. He's also a solid passer.
Yep, Spurs might have two top 6 picks like the comment below says. I expect the Spurs to target a point guard regardless, but another influx of playmaking would also do the team well.
Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson are play finishers, rather than creators, and I think Jeremy Sochan is still ironing out a lot of things. A player with high feel like Cody Williams would fit that mold. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, Reed has all sorts of intangibles that any NBA team will love. Like you said, his shooting and defense are awesome. He's not the flashiest passer, but he constantly makes right decisions (sort of like Cody actually). I have some questions about how his defense will translate to the NBA largely because of his size and athleticism, but there's no doubt about his hands and reaction time.
I also see how Reed could potentially fit the Spurs, especially if they draft a bigger point guard like Topic and then Sheppard can play the 2.
Knocked out in the 2nd round. Finished with 0 rebs and 0 assists. Simply put Cody needs to remain in college. He was completely overwhelmed by the pressure packed, high intense platform of March Madness.
Not operationally ready.
a little bit of rj barrett ?
I think RJ was always more aggressive in looking for his own shot than Cody. You could say he had less feel for the game, but a bigger knack for scoring. I see some similarities though with how they look to attack the rim, can run some pick-and-roll, and are able to push in the open court.
Not that Cody is a bad scorer or that RJ only looked to score, but I'll always remember when Barrett scored 38 points at the U-19 World Cup to beat Team USA. Thanks for watching!
Imo a lankier worse version of RJ
Probably a 6-year development project in the NBA. At age 25, he’ll be solid.
His brother Jalen is putting together an 18/4/4 season on 41.9% from three and 61.4 TS% in just his second year in the league. Not saying that this will happen with Cody, but prospects can get acclimated to the NBA relatively quickly nowadays.
@@FloorandCeiling - His brother Jalen played 3 full seasons of NCAA basketball, if I’m not mistaken. That makes a big difference in operational readiness.
@@mbwell That's fair. He was at Santa Clara until he was a junior, but he was also a young junior and is still only 22. I can also point to someone like Chet Holmgren or Scottie Barnes who are in all-star conversations already.
But at the same time, I do get what you mean. In this draft, I think Kevin McCullar is going to be an awesome example of why it can benefit a prospect to stay in college for many years. The same goes for Wooga Poplar, Ajay Mitchell, Trey Alexander, Kobe Johnson, etc.
@@FloorandCeiling - By today’s standards, even the assumed bulletproof draft selections go through so many growing pains when entering the NBA. This list comes to mind of players that didn’t have maturity mentally or didn’t allow for their bodies to develop physically in college.
1. Ja Morant
2. Zion Williamson
3. Ben Simmons
4. Markelle Fultz
5. Brandon Ingram
Cody needs to follow his brother’s blueprint, IMO.
He's probably going to need a couple of years in the GLeague, but not 6 years.
Bench player - average performance (gm 1)
Keep in mind he's dealing with an injury and has been on a minutes restriction.
@@FloorandCeiling Again, there has been a pattern of issues with the “One-and-Done” players. This includes lack of mental and physical development. Injuries in particular are at a high rate.
