I have similar lights on a 2003 Ram 2500. I installed them like you did with the zip ties etc. I ran the wires in side and both go to the drivers side. I ran wires to each signal/ marker bulb. A wire from each left and right bulbs to the strip light wires. So 4 wires. Put the black ground wires together and grounded to a bolt in the drivers side footwell behind plastic kick plate. Amber running lights come on when i turn on park/headlights and sequential signal lights work. As to the white lights.... I put the white wires together and tapped into the dome light wire in the doorsill, and the lights came on and stayed on. I had previoulsy tried just hooking up the white wires into the dome light wire (red with blue tracer) and the black wires into a brown wire in the same harness they worked when i opened and closed the door. If i grounded the black wires into the bolt ground (common) they came on and stayed on and wouldn't work with opening and closing the door. Long winded i know, but does anyone have any suggestions? Should i run another ground into the brown wire again from the common ground?
Want to send a thank you to Goodwin Customization. We may have found an alternative solution to a problem, but would never have done so without their pointing us down a path.
@@goodwincustomization2493 Good morning I know it's been a while since you made the video I've been watching it and I still can't get it how you add the relay. I did a sidekick sequential turn signal light on the running board it's only work when I open the doors. I ran the white on the reverse and I tap on the signal light those 2 doesn't work. Please help me if you can appreciate it. I already have a 12v relay in hand .
So I tapped into the cargo light, white /tan wire, but now the cargo and led lights won't come on . I. Assuming I need a 12v relay or 6v relay to boost up the voltage??
When I installed them without the relay the running board lights and the dome lights still worked. I'm thinking the dome light wire isn't making the connection if it's not going on. I used a 6v relay and the dome light acting as the switch for the running board lights.
@@goodwincustomization2493 I solder the connections. When I realized and the lights weren't working I disconnected the battery again and reconnected the cover light came back on but as soon as I unlocked the vehicle the LED strips flashed on and then off, and stayed off. Will a relay work for this problem? What kind of relay should I be using?
I assume you do electrical work but brother you made this way too complicated. Why didn't you just splice your connections in with the turn signal lights under the dash/in that bu dle instead of taking off the door and adding a relay?
I wired them, so they are white to light up the steps and then they shut off. The Amber's go on with the turn signals. You can wire them to stay amber when driving.
So I added lights like these on my 2018 F-150 but there the OPT7 Sidekick ones & whenever I have my truck on & idling the turn signals/hazards flicker every few seconds but when I have the key in the ACC position they work just fine & no flicker. I did tap/splice into my mirrors for the turn signals. I don’t the have the running lights hooked up yet either. Any clue what could possibly be going on? Any feedback on that would be great!
We used the yellow wire with purple stripe to trigger the relay coil. When you unlock the truck with the key fob, the relay buzzes like the voltage is right near the switching point. Did you use the same wire to trip the relay?
I don't remember off hand what color I used to trigger the relay. I think I mentioned it in the video. I do get a buzz when the running board lights go off on there own.
@@goodwincustomization2493 Sorry to be a pest. I found them once on Amazon, and chose instead a DC-DC voltage converter with 3-11 volt input and 12volt output. The lights started flashing over 11 volts. I have tried to find them again on Amazon, and am not having success. If you could send me a link I would be thankful.

Wow your video was the only one I could find about adding the relay to make the dome light work with led strips!! Thank you so much brother!
No problem, glad I could help.
I just ran mine to backup lights
Discovered that if you use the bed lighting wire, to drive the white LED's, that you don't need the relay. It is white with a brown stripe.

Why did you use a 6v relay instead of a 12v relay?
Where did you connect the relay?
Do you have to connect the turn and amber runnung light to the relay as well?
Hi, did you ever figure it out? I need help as well with the relay

Do they stay white when driving or do they go straight to the orange color when u start driving?

Hey man do you have a link or something for this? I’ve been trying to find this set up. Wanting the amber turn signal but the white running

My strip won't completely light up on signal flash, so I disconnected the signal wire.
When I signal the light only traveled halfway up the strip.
You might have an internal broken wire.
@@goodwincustomization2493 it's a great running light otherwise.
Where can I buy that same product for my dads 2017 GMC Sierra DENALI? Thank you
Whats the brand of the light kit?
What color is the passenger turn signal?
Both driver and passenger side turn signals are yellow. Running board lights are white.
@@goodwincustomization2493 I meant the wire in the door
@@dhrides2314 I don't remember the color, but it is in the same location on the passenger plug as the driver side plug.
in the olden days we use to use a resistor👍👍
Where did you find the 6v relay?
Amazon

I got them from a website called Goodyled.
