2024 Ford F350. Why I wouldn’t buy 3.55 gear ratio. Only 3.31 for me.

I have a brand new 2024 Platinum that looks almost identical to your Limited, (stock). I chose the 3:31 gear for the same reasons that you mentioned, (hwy speeds). Just came off of about a 500 mile road trip pulling my small Rv that only weighs 3500 lbs. cruising around 77 mph my truck would not even downshift to 9th gear going up hills. My RPM at that speed was about 1550 to 1600. This thing is a beast. Love the HO with the 31 gear. I will have some heavier trailers to pull occasionally but I think it will do just fine. For some of you guys that are questioning this gear? If you don’t pull everyday, take a hard look at this combination. I couldn’t be happier!

2019 with 3:31's. I never run 6th unless I'm on the highway unloaded. Now since my trucks 1st weekend since new it lost some weight so not suprising at 70mph I get 24.5 mpg, 19 in town. I tow a 11.5k loaded smaller 5th wheel camper 8-10 times a year, I always lock 6th out and never run faster than 68, usually 65 and it pulls it great and at 13mpg. When pulling long grades, longest I have done is 5.5 miles at 6.5% I never see coolant temps above 228 and trans temps above 212. When pulling any grade above 4% for any length of time I drop down to 4th and run about 50mph which keeps the rpms around 2500. That way I'm pumping coolant faster. Sometimes I wish I could see the difference of 355's but I got what I got. Paid 47k OTD for my 2019 f250 xlt premium package 4x4. Great deal in 2020 for a leftover. I knew it had 331's but I knew I'd be over payload before I could even come close to max tow. With my small 5th wheel and family loaded to camp, we cat scale with 240lbs left of payload.

I like all the guys commenting…….unless you have a 10spd you have no clue………the 10 spd trans with 3:31 is a game changer and I fully agree with you, I had all kinds of guys telling me no way will I like it. My 2022 with 10spd 3:31 will pull anything I throw at it. LOVE IT! Had diesels all my life and I would not go any other way on this truck.

I was so skeptical when I got my 23+ but 3.31 has made me a believer for type of use, like you, not that heavy but I tow often.

Just did my first highway trip in my 24’ 450 with the 4.30 gears, rpms were around 2200 for 75mph

Mine is a 23 standard output f250 with 3.31’s and Toyo at3 295/65r20 tires. I hate the 3.31 gears. Lugs wayyyy too much when unloaded. I have to lock out 9th and 10th unless I’m doing 70 plus. It does get good mileage though even with those tires and a Tremor front valance I averaged 21 mpg from Texas to California and back unloaded.

On my 2018 Ram HO with 3.42 gears I get a shudder when towing when getting everything moving. That’s my biggest complaint about a high gear ratio, I have others with 4.10 that don’t shutter and also 5500’s with 4.88’s that are awesome off the line but of course are screaming on the highway

I’ve already watched your video a while back on srw vs drw. Just curious if you still prefer the srw and if so why? I’m looking at towing a 4 horse gooseneck trailer with a gvwr of about 18k and a 5th wheel camper that has a gvwr of about 17k. 80% driving empty and 20% towing

I like 3.73 for all around. 4.10 is nice if the truck is always loaded and you need to get off the line.

3.55 IS A BEAST. There’s a reason why DIESEL TREMOR’s only come in this configuration.

Thats what i got also in (i think thats standard) my 450. I always get the lowest gear available 410 is nice in a f350 .My ram dually is 373 i wish i got 410 .The trucks have overdrives now and its easier on everything with the lower gear 373 is a highway gear for me, hell my mustang when i built it i put 430 in it .

    I don’t see how that truck is a 3.55. On Ford’s website I can’t build a FX4 with a 3.55.

Going from Ram's six speed Aisin to Ford's ten speed has changed your thinking. Two totally different animals.

@Grayson.84my pops got a 24 with 3.73 lol I thought he had 3.55 and told him it was 3.55 until I read the door tag and it’s 3.73

@Grayson.84wrong bud, 2024 powerstroke 350 longbed fx4 with 3.73 gears. I looked inside the door myself cause I did not believe him. I thought only the duallys had 3.73. His 2011 350 longbed and 2017 350 longbed were both 3.55 gears. It was a custom truck ordered how he wanted it from ford.
