Hidden Desert Lagoon Hike Into Seven Springs
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2021
- This is a hike out to a hidden desert lagoon in the Sonoran Desert north of Phoenix. We head out past Tonto Hills on our way to Seven Springs. We stop at the golf ball look out point and get a nice 360 degree view all around. From there you can see Horseshoe Lake and Bartlett Lake. We then head out to 7 Springs where we start the hike along the Skull Mesa trail head. About 2 hours into the hike you will come to the desert lagoon oasis.

Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. If you are thinking about moving to Arizona feel free to subscribe and check us out on our other channels.
Should we do the full Skull Mesa Trail or Drive Bloody Basin Road All The Way Up?

So what did you do it’s been 4 months…
The "golf ball" is a Doppler radar. Highly accurate, it provides data for the imagery of rain, snowfall, etc that we see on the weather reports.
I've lived in the Prescott, Arizona area for 21 years now and I've never been to the 7 springs area. Now I'm looking forward to checking it out😃👏👏👏👍 Your videos compliment our beautiful versatile Arizona💚🌵🌴🌳🌲💚 Thanks much💖
I think it's closer to Carefree and Cave Creek. To the north of both towns.
Just moved to Prescott for college I’m learning about about how cool it is.
Nice. Seems like a very nice hike. Wouldn't do it alone. Beautiful country.
That's me 2:44 and my kids hiking up there lol beautiful spit we always camp out and hit the bridge.
No wounder i love Arizona :-)
Don't forget to stop at Raven's View for a drink and good food, right after the Bartlet turn-off across from the golf course. Well worth the stop.
These types of places are why I love Arizona, Thank You for this video! I am afraid to bring too much attention but I would love to see Ellison Creek outside of Payson and any hot springs...
This was incredible, true nature, beautiful!!
This video was a treat! I no longer have the endurance for such hikes, so I was happy to live it vicariously through your video and commentary.
Excellent video!
I love your channel.
Thanks! Loved the Crested Saguaro at 10:37... there are only around 620 in the entire state
I read somewhere that there have been more than 2,000 of them documented in the state.
Yea it is a very nice hike, there are bears out there never had a problem.have not been out in the last 3 or 4 years do to health proplems use to go out there 2 or 3 times a year nice to see it has not been over run yet.
Like your video's. Use to live in Lake Havasu. Do miss Arizona, it's an awesome state. And the giant golf ball tower is most likely for weather or air traffic or those UFO fly'n triangles of the Phoenix lights!😁👽👽👽👽👽
That golf ball thing is a weather radar station
I was wondering what it was.
That is very likely a NEXRAD Doppler. there is a spinning array inside
Awesome. Thanks
WOW! Seven Springs. Back in the early 70's on holidays that place used to be packed. A safe haven away from town for all the weed smokers.
Last time I went there was in the 80's. There were hardly any people.
Love your videos.
Still hardly any people, went there today! Cheers 🎉
Great looking hiking area! A must see when i head to Arizona! CC area for sure!
Have you thought about hiking with a camelback? They make some nice packs with a hydration bladder. That’s what I use. 👍👍
What a beautiful hike. The desert is so green thanks to the monsoon this year. Thanks!
Awesome video! I am a native North Dakotan but consider beautiful Arizona our home away from home. ( on our fourth winter) You do a great job showcasing all the beauty AZ offers. Keep up the great work!
That’s awesome, where do you live in az
This is nice I think we're going to have to check it out. Thanks for the awesome vlog! I am waiting for it to cool down to do any hiking!!!
Just had your channel recommended to us and this first video was a great experience!!! ~ we’ll be back for more!! We have hiked this exact trail many times and 7 springs is one of favorite areas. Excellent work! 🦞🤣😂
Welcome aboard!
Great video!!!
I've just spent three months camping in southern Arizona for the winter months. In June I'll be heading to northern Arizona for the summer. My home base is Charleston SC. Come fall I'll be heading back to southern Arizona for the winter.
Another awesome video. Your drone shots are amazing. Thanks for posting!
Right on! Someone just mentioned this place to me in conversation and I had never heard of it.
People should leave the animal life alone when it's away from populated areas, agreed 100%
golf ball all teed up for you
Man, me and my friends used to go and camp in this spot back in the 90s. Not many ppl knew about it back then. There is another way in as well, through the public camp site but you have to go through a specific piece of private property (owners were cool with it back in the day - sign posted to just make sure the gate is closed and not to litter) and when you get out of the other side you walk along the back end of the trail to get to the spot. It is a much shorter hike but this one is very interesting, never knew about it till now.
wow so nice!!! - so best places in Az for single man who likes outdoors access to craft beer type spots and golf -

When I was a kid in the 70’s there a signal at both ends of the road to the golf ball on Humbolt mountain to let you know if anyone was coming or going. I think that’s a weather radar station. I remember coming down my brakes almost failed because they got so hot.
Not weather, air traffic control.
@@tri5ford I thought weather is air traffic controlled. Right?
@@ramonsmobilemechanic3420 ...uhhh...sure...that's right..the weather is controlled...!
Special area out there but don’t say we need lots of people out there hiking just to keep the trail visible. More people destroys what we came for. Look at Fossil Creek area now. Thanks for sharing.
You take the raptor soo cool
It's been over 50 years since I have been to Seven Springs. There were tadpoles at the time. Thanks for posting. Oh, I'd say that tower is more a ping pong ball.
I just spoke to someone who said that AZ has nothing there! I was shocked with that! How is it they are still oblivious to what the state has to offer! I wish I had vacationed there in the past!
We don't tell them and they leave... :)
The "golf Ball" is the FAA's Humboldt Mountain Air Route Surveillance Radar (ARSR). It is used by Air Traffic Controllers to guide airplanes in the enroute phase of flight. It can feed data to both Terminal RADARS at airports and Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC) . It is not used for weather tracking!
We did the Seven Springs off-road drive last February (didn’t do the hike). We saw some wild horses nibbling grass and getting water at the creek side. That was quite a beautiful treat!
Lobster? Crawdad! Not sure there's a such thing as a fresh water lobster. But I could be mistaken.
Definitely a Crawfish. I just call it a Desert Lobster. More fun to say! But yes you are right those are crawdads....
Desert lobster is more fun to say 🦞
@@LivinginArizona i wasn't trying to be a creep i just honestly thought you made a mistake. Yes you are right desert lobster is more fun to say.
Wow the rain sure Greene's things up! Great video never been there and I've been in Az 42 years! 😂
The lobsters 😂❤️
Great video, thank you for that 👍
Lol yeah Crawfish “desert Lobsters” 🦞
@@LivinginArizona ahh OK! Cool 😊👌
@@LivinginArizona I used to go to the old canals that used to run through Phoenix and catch tons of Crawdads...
I got valley fever from whipping my car on that trail with the windows down
I am a private pilot. That’s the radar antenna for the greater Phoenix sky Harbor approach and departure control
I have never heard of this area and I have lived here my whole life. My dad used to take my little sister and I hiking to Bear flats, and even around the area of Hell's Gate up around the rim. Years ago. My husband and I love Heigler's creek and took our kids a lot when they were little. Lots of wild berries up there too. Then there is Beaver creek, which is another really pretty area. Used to camp out there when we were kids. I believe the further you go down the river you will come across ruins up in the cave. I remember seeing that one time when we were all playing in the creek and exploring. It all reminded me of Indiana Jones. Arizona is an amazing state, love where I was born and raised.
I have never heard of this oasis but definitely will put it on my bucket list. Too bad that prickly pear was not ripe. At least the wildlife will eat it.
Black bear and Puma. Rattlesnake’s like to lay in under that brush next to the trails.
IYAOYAS
Been chased buy some thing out there stocked me . Keep eye kids
It actually belongs to the FAA for flight control. Shares the top of mountain with a fire lookout
We seem to be in the middle of some kind of yellow butterfly migration. I was hoping that you’d notice ,experience and comment about it
Yes we are, millions of yellow caterpillars crossing the roads and no way to miss them.... The tarantula migrations are eerie, but the rattlesnake migrations will scare the crap out of you... they make a loud popping sound when you drive over them, and no way to avoid it...
Are you looking for a driver? Just making sure.
Wow what an awesome hike good job ! Will be down there in November for the races might have to do a day hike up there :) Think there will still be water flowing then ?
The water flows all year. There are some springs just a short distance up the creek from where the creek cosses the road. The springs are always running.
Big foot out there six toes
Always wear black when hiking in Az!
When hiking drink all the water you need when you need it, don't ration it.
Are you kidding? Always wear black while hiking in AZ? How come?
@@jwat2396 Because if you wear black you will die of heat exhaustion! Knuckle!
Not another soul in sight.
Occasionally wild horses wander through the area along with cattle and used to have sheep out that way.
Some advice, do not go out into the desert without knowing what you are doing!! Do not entice others to do so. Seven Springs actually appears in a very early John Wayne movie, what it once looked like. My homeland is beautiful, it is very nice to see it in your video presentation. My camp, mine is about 52 miles north of your location on the road? north. Basque cabin built long ago.
Are you from AZ?
It's archery deer season, you didn't see any hunters?
Oh, they are all in camouflage. There is a trail along the bottom
near the water.
I didn't see any hunters back there. Yes I am from Arizona.
@@LivinginArizona He's joking...
Did all that as a kid
It’s a dry heat! Much easier to handle
Doppler radar for weather
What’s up Jeff
This hike is not for the feeble-spirited that’s for sure. Just the drive up with the steep drops … I’m out. Bears, snakes … no cell phone reception. I’m fainting.
BUT thank you sooo much for making the hike and video-journaling the beauty of it … the clear running creeks, the water springs, the cattle, couple of lobsters, butterfly swarms and cactus pear.
As another commentator said … allowing us to live a hike we are unable to do vicariously thru this video.
God bless.
How long was that hike? Distance and time?
I’m gonna start calling crawdads ‘desert lobster’.
Wearing cowboy boots in case you run into a rattler? There's one you don't need to be concerned about thanks to the rock throwers. Unless the leather is loose and away from your skin the rattler can bite right through it. Every bit of material is helpful but a standard boot such as a cowboy boot alone isn't much protection against rattlers. If your concerned about them they make snake proof boots. I've got a pair and I still wouldn't push it just to see if they really are snake proof.
Well as you said every layer counts. I mean it also depends on how it strikes. It would certainly protect against a graze. But a full on bite, those fangs are getting through yes.
Texan here
Are there rattlesnakes one has to definitely be on the lookout for?
Looks like one would.
Arizona is home to every type of rattlesnake with the exception of the Eastern Diamondback. The two to be most careful of are the Western Diamondback and Mohave. The first is the more common and also more dangerous as they are the biggest as well.
You need to fix that farmer tan, buddy!
The prickly pear does not look like a guava, you picked it when it was unripe.... wait until they are red and they are eatable, just remove the spines first...
Jets blow off road so low
Star gate
You should have brought a water filter and filled up before returning.
You can eliminate hidden in your title now. Will have to get permits like fossil creek soon.
What’s the depth of that Lake?
Hey Jeff can you do a video on the new fanduel sports book open at the footprint center...? With legal gambling open in AZ on Thursday it looks like this fanduel sports book at the footprint center will be a bar with a bunch of TVs and betting kiosks. It says it’ll be open on weekdays too. Looks interesting and would be fun to go down there & bet on a game and have a drink!

I am surprised you don’t have a camel pack. Way better than a bottle of water you need way more than one bottle of water for that kind of hike and you don’t wanna be holding back on the water.
Ufo night
I enjoyed your video, all of them in fact, but I was totally amazed that a native of AZ would wear a black shirt and then complain about their body temp. needing to cool off! White or light colors reflect sunlight, while black or dark colors absorb! Stay cooler in the AZ sun by wearing light colored clothes. Coming from a roofer who knows where with he speaks.
Beware

There is one of those golf balls off 410 in Washington st. I don't believe they serve any real purpose. I think they are just an excuse to spend taxpayer money. Ok, I guess it could be part of the Doppler radar system.🤘😎
Want truth out im dieing world need truth save it
I get cracked up by everyone here acts as if a small creek of tiny amounts of water and these so called lakes, where I come from they are called ponds!!! Go east you'll see real lakes and creeks my friends , head to Arkansas or Tennessee!!!
yes those areas are great, the bugs will eat you alive though, my mom grew up in prescott ak. hot springs is very nice.
I enjoy your videos but I must say that I find the background music you use and most of your videos too loud and very annoying when I'm trying to listen to you. It would be great if you could post a few videos with no music at all so I can just enjoy your narration. Thank you
