I watch this often since War Emblem was my favorite horse, this line up is full of greats though. Madaglia d'oro, Johannesburg, proud citizen and Came Home.
Thanks! Yes, the Lukas-Baffert combination was inexplicably ignored. I didn't have it for all that much (compared to the total amount wagered), but what relatively little I had with the magic leverage provided with the odds of the three finihers (20-1; 20-1; 7-1, or thereabouts), resulted in a magnificent return. A very pleasant - and completely atypical result of my overall wagering since 1985. Say, if you get a chance, order Joe Palmer's "This Was Racing." a 1952 anthology of his newspaper columns (95% about racing). He's forgotten now, which is a shame. An unsurpassed writer, literally without peer.
I went to visit War Emblem at Old Friends outside of Lexington KY last fall. What a shock! He's now a shambling wreck --- I didn't even recognize him! (the gracious lady giving us an ad hoc tour certainly would be excused if she thought, judging by my inability to recognize WE, that my KD bonanza story was all hoey). And the marbles in his head don't roll so evenly anymore. I daresay, he's not long for this world.
Im still pissed off about this derby after 18 years..I left Wisconsin with war emblem as my horse to bet on..but so called experts said he wouldn't get the distance ..so I turned in my winning ticket on war emblem and bet harlens holiday..what an idiot I was..I had a 200$ win ticket on war emblem and changed it 2 hours before the derby
I remember watching the Kentucky derby draw for this race and the trainer Paco Lopez for came home had the option of getting the 4 hole and he choose the 15 hole, i said to someone that just cost came home the race, and I was right. Had came home had the 4 hole he would have been inna virtual match race with War Emblem instead of chasing him. People just don't realize how important it to have the right gate for your type of horse. Came Home was a speed horse so he would be best in the 3-9 hole, anything outside of that is putting your horse at risk at losing ground and not being able to dictate the pace, but simply be a passenger like Came Home was in this race.

If he hadn't almost busted his ass coming out of the gate during the Belmont, I believe he be in the record books as the last Triple Crown Winner! But I guess you can say that about a lot of other horses as well. Real Quiet and Smarty Jones come to mind. So close...
The assistant starter held him in the Starting Gate because the Arab had just bought the horse and with 9/11 them New Yorkers weren't going to let him be a Triple Crown winner
Sorry repeat I was reliving the moment because my girlfriend's boyfriend: Bobby Springer ( Dr Byrd, the veterinarian that started bute in Colorado was feeding Bobby testosterone shots to keep up with her and he came home one night and got in the wrong bed... it was the top bunk and I flipped him off on the floor with a terrible hard-on...) used to train War Emblem in the Illinois Derby til Baffert got him what a beautiful animal there's no horses like that in this year's 150th Derby look at his Gaskin muscles and looking at his hips
For the benefit and convenience of you and others who view this, I have the lyrics for "My Old Kentucky Home" and they are below if you want to look them over while listening or sing along. It occurs at the 24:39 mark. The sun shines bright on My Old Kentucky Home, 'tis Summer, the people are gay; The corn-top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom, while the birds make music all the day. The young folks roll on the little cabin floor, all merry, all happy and bright; By'n by hard times come a-knocking at the door, then My Old Kentucky Home, good night! Weep no more, my lady! O, weep no more today! We will sing one song for My Old Kentucky Home, for My Old Kentucky Home far away. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 And the race itself begins at the 35:09 mark.
Why! He was the fastest horse on the Ragozin sheets going in! He went to the lead, nobody pressed him on a speed favoring track! Keep in mind Proud Citizen was 2nd all the way around the track and ran 2nd. Speed played all day at Churchill.

Had the winner. Had the exacta. Had the triple. I was in a daze for about six straight weeks afterwards!
He was a good horse but not great it was too bad he was one dimensional
I agree entirely. And his stud career was out of the Three Stooges playbook!
how the hell did these idiots let baffert and lucas go off as long shots??? LOL oh well. congrats. i really hope you had it for more than $1 or $2

AHahha Request for Parole? I love the name they give the horses.
This was one of the few Derbys I missed watching live. I got married that day.

Slew died 3 days later 😭
ugh
lmao today at gulfstream i made some nice money on a filly by harlans holiday ! lol
I'm glad you enjoy the channel.. I just posted what I had of the 2000 Kentucky Derby broadcast.
Thank you for sharing. Please it will be better if you don't put the winner on the title.
Disagree. Sometimes we are looking for the horse or a specific race that brings to mind that horse anyway. Can’t always recall which is which.

I thank you for the reply, but I'm not being romantic. I did this just for your benefit and convenience.
@@mannbradmusic what you forgot to add was that those ribs cost him his breeding career
Can you up load the 2000 full broadcast of the Preakness? Thanks
What the hell was Charlsie talking about?
35:08 Is when race starts.
What happens if they claim foul? Do they overturn the win r what.
Can't root for that owner; one of the worst people on the planet.
Please explain
