- Comparing the internals after 7 months over 400 take off's total of 26hours flying between the two, the Parrot Original Battery 2700mAh and a 3rd Pty GiFi 3200mAh.
I was under the impression that all batteries for the BEBOP 2 had a PCB/PCM built into them even 3rd Pty batteries. I was wrong, today I discovered that the GiFi battery does not have a PCB/PCM. Luck seems to be on my side.
Next video will be to use the PCB (Blank circuit board) from the GiFi battery and attach it to original Parrot Cells and compare flight time, and battery reporting via the power band on the graph post flight.
What do you think will happen in the next round of tests?

3100mAh not 3200mAh mental error 🤣
VERY well done, Anthony. Thank you. The revelation you make regarding the lack of "smart" charging circuitry is invaluable. If I were a GiFi customer I would be angry that they did not provide sufficient information on balance charging requirement. Batteries that swell that way are on their way to a firey demise.
Excellent video and information. I have problems in the past with GiFI batteries and now I know why?
Thanks for your work on this.
For warning using the GiFi battery. Ive just lost my bebop 2 in the ocean on it's first use. I had a reading of 20% and a few seconds later the warning "low battery" alarm went off now showing 5%. I was out 200 metres and coming home but unfortunately the bebop didnt make it and I'm totally peeved off as the standard battery would've got the bird home 3 times over. So "WARNING" is issued to my fellow bebop owners considering this battery upgrade!!!!!!!!
Oh, I also balance charged this battery prior to using it for this flight!!!!!
Mark Trevor thank you very much for your advice. It is much appreciated. Can you please share what make and model charger you were using to charge the GIFI battery?
Morning from Australia Anthony!!!! Ok, the make & model of the charger is as follows:
G.T.POWER
B3
Input:. AC 100v - 240v
Output: LiPo 2S 1.5A
LiPo 3S 1.0A
I hope this helps Anthony!!!
Much appreciated Mark, this helps allot. Cheers Anthony
Thanks very good video... waiting for part 2.
Great videos! I have been binging all your videos in relation to the Bebop 2 power as I have started flying mine recently. I saw your reply to a comment about buying the cells for the batteries and was just wondering if you have a suggestion on where to get the cells for the Bebop 2 power. Also if you have any hints/tips/tricks with putting them in the OEM caseing that would be helpful even though it looks pretty straight foward.
Great video and thank you for taking the time to investigate the difference between OEM and NON OEM batteries. No balance charging on the GiFi is quite shocking and its been well worth the effort that you have identified this :-)
Like others who have replied I would consider a Balanced Charger and one that also charges LiHV so that you have some future proofing inf you ever decide to get a Bebop Power which has a different cell type.
Another reason I like my balanced charger is to be able to monitor and discharge my cells if I am not going to fly for a while.
Still a great video which compliments your others which I also like.
Keep up the good work.
Mike
Michael Dawson thank you. What is the make /model of the charger you recommend?
Hi Anthony I use the Turnigy Accucell 6
hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-accucel-6-80w-10a-balancer-charger-lihv-capable.html
It supports all the different cell types and even LiHV

Awesome vid. I just got 2 gifi batterys 4000mAh off of Amazon with a balance charger. Can't wait to see the results.
Also for the price are u happy with the gifi?
jerry fowler definitely, I am happy with them. I have had no problems with them. Remember for the reduced price, can't ask for more. Just be cautious with them, give them a few run in flights low and close to see their run time and if they can work through the entire battery before you do long and further flights.
ANTHONYVLOG will do. Thanks for the lesson
I got 2 for $60 Canadian.
jerry fowler wow very nice.
I have a question. Well I just got my 3rd bebop 2 n the refurb that I got came with a dead battery. I thought it was the charger at first so I modded the charging cable. I know black is negative n red is positive. I cut the balance lead off one of my old batteries that I don't use. Now the 3s lead that I had has the 1 red n the rest are black. So I soldered red to red n the Bebop 2 wire to one of the blacks. It didn't short out when I plugged in the battery to my modded cable. I did order a battery n the company is sending another one. So I want to know did I solder the wires correctly?
Really Really good review on it mate nice one Don 👍👍👍👍👍
awesome video Ant thank you
Hi there. I know this is an old video, but was curious if you had any idea of what specific cells/envelopes you could use to replace the 3 internal ones?
Tho, they seem to be different capacity batters. The OEM Parrot battery is 1200mAh, 13.3Wh, 11.1V, 10C continuous discharge, and my GiFi Power battery is 1600mAh, 17.7Wh, 11.1V, 20C continuous discharge. They both have 3 cells in them, but both quickly failed to charge. I would like to get them working again
Hello the BMS on the oem batteries operates with 2700mah cells the cell dimensions are 80x40x23, I used to get DXF brand bud they no longer manufacture them. However ZDF now makes them and you can find them on AliExpress or possibly hobby king!
@@ANTHONYVLOG Thanks I will dig around
I don't know if you read comments now but I would like your point of view. Could I extend my battery from bebop1 3.0 with original pcp and battery cell from original bebop2?
You could but the size difference with the cells would make it difficult. Better to put an XT60 connector and use RC batteries :)
@@ANTHONYVLOG unfortunately didn't receive original battery with bebop1. Only the big one from Gifi.
My plan gonna be to buy original parrot battery and replace cell's with battery of bebop2 with 2700mAh. Just combine correct parts and I'm optimistic. You mentioned fitting... how hard can it be :-(
@@draganbratic2173 just use a balance charger with the GiFi battery. It should be ok like that as the balancing will be done by the charger :)
@@ANTHONYVLOG roger that.
Just need to buy bebop2 battery to see which XT60 fits with it. Maybe I'll go with that. Good that you gave me idea. Thanks
Nice video and experiment Anthony. You sped through the cell voltage readings. But I am curious where the cell voltages stand before the switch, specifically how close they are balanced. Maybe you have that saved on the original video?
Even before the flight and battery reporting tests, it may be interesting to also note the newly arranged cell charge readings too.
Hi Rick,
Parrot Cells
3.57v
3.73v
3.58v
after charge (Green light + GiFi PCB)
3.94v
3.95v
4.11v
I have increased my workload for the next video.
GiFi Battery Cells + Parrot PCB - (Charge with Parrot Charger & note voltages)
GiFi Battery Cells + GiFi PCB - (Charge with Parrot Charger & note voltages)
GiFi Battery Cells + Parrot PCB - Test flight Hover 5m 100% - 2% (Note voltages at 2%, balanced discharge?)
GiFi Battery Cells + GiFi PCB - Test flight Hover 5m 100% - 2% (Note voltages at 2%, balanced discharge?)
Repeat tests with good Parrot cells as I suspect the cells I showed in the video may not be sufficient and I don't have a balance charger to target cell charge to balance it.
The test flight is only to note if the PCB makes any difference in the BMS or is the PCB only for charge.
Your thoughts?
Thank you for noting the voltages. I apologize about the additional workload.
My thinking is that you would be able know the condition of the Parrot cells to see if they are on path to degrade with the GiFi PCB (as the the GiFi cells have), or slightly improve the balance of the GiFi cells (if you do that test), regarding if the PCB's function is in part to help balance charge each of the cells (BMS, charge mode). The comparison would help confirm this.
The PCB's function might also possibly be to limit battery draw to keep it cool during flight (BMS, discharge mode), or like you say, to help in the battery reporting capability (BMS, report mode) in FreeFlight Pro. I am interested like everyone here, to watch your results. It's a great experiment.
I am surprised to see the Parrot Cell's charge not reach nearer to 4.20v at green light (100% ?) charge. Maybe the PCB does play a large role in the charge. I use a DP2 EV-Peak balancing charger specifically made for the Parrot Bebop 2, and very happy with how it treats my three OEM batteries. It surely must cooperate with the Parrot PCB. ruclips.net/video/arLcMb-KOOQ/видео.html . I use the OEM charger only for the SkyController.
Rick Cunningham no worries at all.
From today's fiddle with the cells, they are hit and miss with the GiFi board, put them back on the Parrot PCB and they all went up to 4.20+-. 2 I also got some info from the company that makes the cells which I'll post up in another video. I have not found any information of the GiFi cells yet nor have I gotten a reply. They proberbly don't like me or don't want me telling everyone the 4000mAh cells are the same as the 3100mAh GiFi with the same blank board.
thanks for the video anthony, subscribed. just to be clear, are you saying there is no difference between the cells or the capacity of the gifi 3100mah and 4000mah bebop 2 batteries?
Hi Drone Eating Tree (cool name lol). Yes I had a member on my FB page confirm the cells in my 3100mAh is the same as those in his 4000mAh GiFi battery. Only way to find out is to open it, it even has the identical blank PCB. The only difference is the label saying 4000mAh and 3100mAh.
antony could you help me to understand if my original parrot 2 drone battery is still good or is trash? my dad haven t used this for about 1 year... so as now, as i put the charger on and plug the battery.. no light turns on (on the charger).....
If i look at the battery, it seems a little "bloated"...... it is normal?
shonik3 hello, if thé battery is bloated I will recommend not using it. No light on charger possibly because the cells are completely dead. I won’t use it 😢
@@ANTHONYVLOG thanks! That s what i fear! Probably dead! ( the lights on chargher turns on when it s plugged to wall? Without a battery? /)
@@shonik3 that sounds like a different problem with the charger. The light on the BEBOP 2 OEM charger does not illuminate until it detects acceptable resistance from the battery. Maybe the initial problem was the charger not charging the battery and the drone was stored, than over time the battery bloated due to being stored charged. Two separate situations. :)
Thank you very much!!! Got a sub n like for sure!!
Is there a place where i can order a case off the parrot Bebop 2 battery, mine has broken
Hi Richard, i havent found just the battery shell. Are you looking for the base or the outer cone? I may have one laying around somewhere i could post to you.
@@ANTHONYVLOG I'm looking for the bottom with 4 tabs that hold the battery
One question please.
How about the performance?
Fly time.. Is the same like original battery? Around 25 minutes?
Thanks in advance.
Flight time on GiFi 3100mAh is more than the Original battery 2700mAh. :)
@@ANTHONYVLOG thanks for the reply.
My original parrot battery has started to swell and it is even difficult to install it on the Bebop 2. I have another parrot battery, but I would like to replace the cells in the damaged one to experiment. Where can I buy cells? Thanks.
here you have an address www.aliexpress.com/store/product/DXF-New-Arrived-Parrot-Bebop-2-Drone-11-1V-2700-mah-Lipo-Battery-replacement-core-For/3027015_32817465660.html?spm=2114.12010608.0.0.491f2652Ng3Blr
Grzegorz Ciak Thanks
Could you take cells out of parrot fit in gi fi shell as want bigger mah you saying balance charge gi fi sorted yes
Yes, it works :)
I had a broken bebop 2 battery and the shop had original bebop 2 elements - but after replacing the elements in the repair shop - skycontroller failed to recognize the battery. Does anyone have experience with replacing the original battery elements? Does it work? Or does the complicated circuit board prevent replacing elements?
Replacing the cells isn't a problem. It works all the time. If the PCB is sleeping you need an OEM charger to wake it up.
I did charge it with OEM charger until charger showed green, but strangely skycontroller would not accept the repaired battery.
@@bboydmt not sure why the Skycontroller does not recognise it, if another battery works than use that battery.
Yes, its disposed of already, I was just wondering if it was even possible to replace original cells, and it seems it should be possible, so thanks for that answer:)
So does the original battery have a circuit for balance the battery and alternative batteries don't?
In other words, the oem charger doesn't balance batteries but original batteries have an internal circuit that perform the balance task. Is that right?
Ary Kleinerman oem chargers balance as well. The PCB in the oem batteries are protection and balancing. That is why non oem batteries charged with the oem charger also get balanced. But over time due to the resistance and the lack of a protection circuit the chargers become faulty and balancing is no longer reliable.
ANTHONYVLOG I thought mrkent said in his videos that the oem charger doesn't balance. So, isn't a balancer RC charger needed with original batteries right?
Ary Kleinerman the advice to use an after market balancer is always The case for multicell RC lipos in the case of parrot it is not required. If the batteries and drone were purchased without warrenty than it is best to invest in a good balancer. Note the small chargers that say they balance but can't trickle or target cell charge are no different than the oem 3s charger.
I would recommend a battery checker first. It's inexpensive because even aftermarket balance chargers won't tell you if a cell has dropped before your flight. I use a battery tester before all my flights and I have not had any problems with the drone flight due to battery failures.
Where are you guys getting connectors for balance charging you Gifi batteries?
The original cable is spliced to fit the charger. Here is a very detailed write up by Christopher Smith about making one. thehighproglow.blogspot.fr/2017/08/parrot-bebop-2-stock-charge-cable-hack.html
do you happen to know anyone selling this cable modded already. If i'm going to buy a cable to mod i might as well by on already modded..........and thanks for making this video i assume your Gifi battery is getting puffy because its not been balance charged
No worries, the puffing of the GiFi batteries I have is purely negligence (worse case scenario) most of which was leaving it sat at 100% when not in use, a well looked after GiFi can last a good while. As for modded balance chargers I don't know of any that are ready made. There is however a product EV-PEAK 3, it does balance charge and storage discharge if that may be of interest to you. I am certain a few other members on here with ore experience with balance chargers can suggest something.
mrkent.com/cables/index.htm and they are $25 + ship. I have purchased one myself and the quality is excellent
Where did you get the small screw driver with the small star bits?
Steve Dawson hardware store, I just looked for a set that had the small torx t4 t5 t6 Philips and flat heads
What do you think? Is it safe to use unbalaced battery like his GiFi with original bebop charger - or is it better to buy a balanced charger?
Buy a balanced charger. The gifi batteries have no protection, so it cam damage the oem charger if they short.
Thank you! Do you have suggestions for balanced chargers and where to read up on them? I guess there are there fake chargers like fake batteries? Also there are many selles of gifi batteries, some are probably fake also, can you share what seller you bought from?
@@bboydmt for the BEBOP 2, I recommend the EVPEAK DP2 which is specific for BEBOP 2 battery and is perfect. Anything else and you have to do research as I can guarantee their validity.
I have a bad PCB. Do you know where to get?
Hi Ken I have been unable to source the patented BEBOP2 battery PCB I only look for bad batterieswith good board but bad cells and take them out from there.
IMO, that GIFI battery already needs to be returned to GIFI under warranty, for puffing. They have a 12 month warranty as far as I know, so I'd be curious if they honor it.
Its safe to say i'v void the warranty, and I accept that. I wouldn't know how to get GiFi warranty as ebay seller only gave 6 months, in this area I am unsure.
Hi Anthony, I just wanted to ask if you know whether there will be any adverse effect caused by charging a standard Bebop 2 Power LiHv battery via a balance charge lead and aftermarket balance charger, due to the built-in charge circuit of the battery itself, possibly conflicting with the external balance charger?
Hi Hubrecht, normally intelligent balance chargers will come with a caution to not use with batteries with built in circuit protection. The only worst case scenario using a universal balance charger is that the BMS circuit inside the battery may not function correctly if the charger forces an individual cell charge (target cell charging). If the universal charger does not target cell and use the discharge balance method than there will be no problem and it will charge and function as intended.
Thanks for the info! I have managed to make the second battery usable again via deleting the faulty internal pcb as you suggested to me on your other post, so that one I will have to balance charge, using my intelligent charger, which is obviously better for the lifespan of the battery anyway. Was just wondering what charging method I should use on the good battery with the working pcb.
@@hubrechtfladderak3321 thats awesome news. These batteries have an average life expectancy of around 600 cycles. More if storage voltages are respected and not charged full but to 98% for prolonged life. Iv been testing these batteries over the years and have been doing the worst possible things to them like leaving them fully charged, unbalancing them than flying, they are of good grade cells so anything other than neglect will prolong the life and use of these batteries :D
good info was looking for battery...made me think twice.
I can't find GOOD batteries anywhere. All of them are knock offs. Where can I buy these flat batteries and what should I be looking for?
You can get the cells directly from DXF. Here is the link.
www.aliexpress.com/item/32865739662.html
3:12 I assume that means the BEBOP 2 is an internally balanced battery, so there's no benefit to having a balancing charger, because the battery handles that itself. The GIFI battery is not balanced, but a balancing charger might then be useful and extend the life. Thoughts?
Yes a balance charger is highly recommend for the GiFi battery, for safety and peace of mind. The Parrot battery is a little more intelligent so can handle a bit more negligence.
The gifi one is totalled
Where is the Part 2?
Taken down due to being un-safe.
Why was it unsafe? Can you put it on vimeo or somewhere else, would like to check it out:)
