    Hardest part is the bolts/studs on the downpipe and the bolts that hold the lower section in place. You gonna need a heavy duty torque wrench and maybe some penetrating fluid if you don't have the space/strength to loosen the bolts.

      This again in many of the other comments made by others down in the comment section is not about doing a sound video. It is a instructional video on how to install the part onto the car. As for sound, it all depends if you are using the stock exhaust set up with sxth element performance DP or with a performance exhaust. Again this video is for being able to install this part by yourself.

    • @chipandputt
      @chipandputt 4 года назад +8

      @John Jones I do appreciate the explanation, and being in the engineering field, I don't even mind the technical jargon. All that aside, your response still doesn't answer my question. My perfectly functional 2020 Veloster N has a downpipe ... designed and installed by Hyundai. WHY should I go through the trouble and expense of removing a perfectly good downpipe and install this aftermarket replacement. I am actually AFTER technical jargon, because being aftermarket doesn't immediately make it better. Show me some testing results that prove that it makes my car better. And if that is not the point ... if it is only intended to make my car sound better (which is fine) say so and start the thing up and let me be the judge if it sounds better or not so I can decide if my hard-earned money should be spent on this item.
      An example of what I mean ... 10 seconds at the start of the video, the guy stands there, holding what they are selling and says: Installing this downpipe will add 15 HP and 11lb.ft of torque by itself but is also a prerequisite to other modifications to your engine, including ECU tunes that can take your car well beyond 50 HP gains, which the OEM downpipe cannot safely accommodate."
      As it currently stands, I only know that it is shinier. Which would have some value if it wasn't 100% buried behind the engine.

    • @MizzouRah78
      @MizzouRah78 4 года назад

      No offense, but it's common knowledge. Most people who watch this are after the "how to" application of it. Hence, the title... If you're interested in the "why" or any other technical aspects, then simply google it. Also, their website (and pretty much any other vendor selling a performance product) shows the estimated gains of a particular part.
      I will say what I DO wish would've been added is a sound clip at the end, post installation.

      @Lehpurdzzz 4 года назад +10

      Mike Shortridge look up a cross section of a catalytic converter. The openings on an OEM cat are smaller than an aftermarket one. You can trade off catalyst efficiency for less restrictive flow.
      Less restrictive flow means that the piston on its upward exhaust stroke has to do less work to push out the exhaust gases.
      Also, every pulse of exhaust leaves behind it a low pressure region that helps suck the next pulse out of the cylinder. This is called exhaust scavenging. If you decrease flow restriction by installing a less restrictive cat, the exhaust pulses travel faster on average, and leaves behind it a larger pressure differential to suck out the next pulse faster.
      Maximizing this scavenging is important. Too large of a pipe and the gases are too slow. Too small of a pipe and there’s too much restriction. OEM exhausts come with a lot of restriction to stay well under emissions and sound regulation.
      Also, the faster exhaust is scavenged from the cylinder, the higher you can raise the rev limiter if the other components can handle it. You can also tune the timings of intake/exhaust valve opening/closing and ignition to maximize the power throughput by modifying your car one bottleneck at a time.
      In the end, the faster the air and fuel can be manipulated, the greater power throughput. Make the system faster and more efficient by installing aftermarket parts.
      It’s a rabbit hole though. You make more power but you have to deal with more heat. OEMs didn’t design the car to make 20% more power. So it’s up to us to deal with the cons. Engine oil will be hotter. Past 260F and your oil starts to break down and lubrication is poor. So we install larger heat exchangers (radiator) to reduce intake air temperature, oil temperature, and water (coolant) temperature.
      You go even faster for longer periods of times like on a track, you have to install transmission fluid coolers and differential fluid coolers. Of course this depends on the car and the current passive cooling systems in place, but that’s the deal.
      To conclude- good on you for asking and being skeptical. The only way you really learn the nuances of a system is by getting all of your questions answered and doubting everything until you’re really convinced.
      -fellow engineer

    • @Tiralful
      @Tiralful 3 года назад +2

      @@Utsusemi I’m not sure what’s “Gimmicky” about it. When a car manufacture develops vehicle they are limited by several regulatory bodies abs have to meet certain standards for mpg, noise, pollution, ect. We really aren’t so to speak. So by modding your car you can unleash the power that already technically existed to begin with. Some cars are also artificially limited so they don’t compete with a higher trim as well.
      If you don’t want to mod your car that’s absolutely fine. But on the flip side doing give people that do shit just because it isn’t your thing. It’ s no different than people going to Starbucks three times a day to get overpriced shitty coffee. Idiotic but is their thing so God speed.
