  • NOTE: Episode #2 and #3 of the Roland Banks Core Only Series will be slightly delayed. I lost the footage to episodes 2 and 3 and need to reshoot. Episodes of Jim Culver will be released in the meantime.
    Justin provides a deck tech for the solo Roland Banks. This deck is built with only one copy of the core set and only cards available when the scenario was released. The Night of the Zealot campaign will be played in full with all upgrades shown on the way.

    Still holding out hope for Roland Banks to make it through, 5 years later! :)

    My god. I played this for the first time today - playing solo with Roland - and died 3 times in a row when I got to the Ghoul Priest! Still, had a blast in any case! Won't be long until I'm spending waay too much on expansions.

    Thank you very much, that's what I was looking for since I only have one core box.

    So far in my solo Night of the Zealot campaign - Roland went insane. Got farther with Wendy but still died on the 3rd scenario.
    Night of the Zealot seems impossible with just one core box like I have. The other investigators like Daisy and Skids seem like support characters and wont solo well. Neither does any of the investigators in the Dunwich expansion.

    This is an excellent video for starters. This game is so good. As a player for a while now I still find I've overlooked a rule at times, usually making the game harder for myself unintentionally which let's face it this game doesn't need.
    I'm more of a go ahead and mix and match sets type of player generally, I really should go back and try the core scenario again now that I've really expanded my collection just to see how it goes with some of the cards I have access to now.

      Write down the rules that don't make immediate sense, like the no negative number rule for skill tests.
      Mine turned into 2 A4 sides and it's very helpful if you've been away from the game for some time.

    Roland has such pitiful sanity that I actually think that intentionally resigning, *even* when you could kill the Ghoul Priest, is a strategy worth considering. The 'no resolution' ending actually lets you add Lita to your deck, without the associated trauma of R1. You gain 4 XP instead of 6 (2 base, 2 from locations, but not the 2 from the Priest), but you can get another chance at those 2 XP during Midnight Masks if you happen to draw the Priest. I think you're also more likely to have Lita then to help out vs the Priest (it's probably easier to draw/mulligan and play her than it is to actually spend actions Parleying her), and of course Roland is a lot better at defeating enemies than he is at not-going-crazy.
    Would be worth seeing if Travis (who seems to have played through Midnight Masks a lot) has ever considered/done that.
    (I know this is a very old video, but I had this realization recently and it seemed the most appropriate place to note this for discussion.)

      I hate when that happens. I really appreciate you reshooting the footage. Take your time, I will be here when it is ready to watch, and will have my bowl of popcorne ready.

    You absolutely can have two copies of Frozen in Fear in your threat area, and they will make the first relevant action you take cost two additional actions (so probably your entire turn) -- in other words, you played it right.

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  6 лет назад

      I'm glad to hear I played it right! That can be absolutely brutal assuming you don't have the brains to beat the test. To make matters worse you have to do each test separately I imagine too.

    • @Thatwasademo
      @Thatwasademo 6 лет назад +1

      Having to do each test separately actually makes matters slightly better in my opinion, unless there are really nasty chaos token symbol effects, since it means passing either one lets you discard that one and get back to only losing one extra action. But yes, the test to discard each Frozen in Fear is independent.

  • @mikeb3717
    @mikeb3717 6 месяцев назад

    at 18:07, how did you take so many actions? You attacked (2 actions because of Frozen in Fear), drew a card (1 action, which makes 3) and attacked again (a 4th action).

      Unfortunately, no. Turns out the editing process was too hard for my computer at the time and I lost the other episodes. There is a completed solo playthrough through the Dunwich Legacy here: ruclips.net/video/B6-VjQVvoG4/видео.html

    Can someone point me in the direction of part 2? I saw in the description that the footage was lost but was it ever reshot? I see some other videos for the midnight masks on this channel but it's unclear if it's associated with this video.

      I'm actually in the process of re-examining and re-shooting this series. My editing computer died on me so I need to find a new way to shoot the Solo Series without any editing.

    Great video. Just got the core box today.
    Quick beginner question - you moved from the attic straight to the cellar. I didn't think the 2 locations were linked so you had to move into the hallway first?

    • @PlayingBoardGames

      I likely messed up there. You are correct I had to move to the hallway first. I hope you enjoy jumping into the world of Arkham Horror TCG!

    I'm looking into going down the Arkham Horror LCG rabbit hole and thinking of starting a FOUR player game. Because you are really into the deck building side (or anyone else out there for that matter wishing to comment), just wondering how many core base sets do you need to be able to play any combination of deck building with the characters that come in the core base set for a FOUR player game?
    EXAMPLE: If two core boxes are needed for two players, to allow a variety limit of two of the same cards in your 30 card deck, does that then translate into four core box sets for a four player game? Or will just buying expansions instead do the job?
    I mean FOUR core base sets is really going to hit the wallet hard if that's the case. Any suggestions out there?

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  5 лет назад +3

      We always play three players with only two core sets (plus all the expansions) and we rarely run into any issues in regards to card conflicts.
      The cards you'll find a conflict over are the ubiquitous cards like Lucky or Ward of Protection that are so great and fit into that class so easily. However I don't think that's really an issue and requires four core sets.
      If each player plays a different class and there are some expansions in your collection you'll find deck building goes pretty smoothly.
      The other area you may run into problems with is the neutral cards, but I don't think that's too much of an issue that your decks will become worse because of it.
      I think two core sets is fine for four players, and instead of buying two other cores use that money to buy a full expansion cycle instead.

    Playing the act is an action and can only be operated in the investigation phase. Here it seems you skipped some mythos phases.

    🤔 if Beat Cop takes 2 horror isn't he dead?

    • @seantilson8728
      @seantilson8728 Год назад +1

      Came here to ask/see if this was addressed. Regardless, I am curious if there is a window to use the beat cops ability even though he is dying.

  • @robertmorris293
    @robertmorris293 3 года назад +1

    Very confused with this play through... One moment you have 3 horror and then you let the beat cop take damage (valid) but you then magically drop your own horror from 3 to just one. The Beat cop would protect you from damage but not heal your horror. Also you said that you play a resource to dodge an attack but don’t explain how you do that...I.e... what card did you play to do that? Because you cannot just play a resource to dodge... I think you show the fun that can be had with this game in your video but it is not really a great video to watch if you are trying to learn the game.

    • @frankloophole
      @frankloophole 3 года назад +1

      Isn't the card called Dodge?

    • @robertmorris293
      @robertmorris293 3 года назад

      frankloophole No, if you read my actual comment I said that he payed a resource and then the horror went down but did say how he brought it down.

    • @frankloophole
      @frankloophole 3 года назад +1

      I meant: there is a card called Dodge. That card can be played for one ressource. You can play the card to cancel an attack. I double checked with my edition of AH. It really works like that

      frankloophole arrr right... You have nicely cleared up what the video didn’t... Makes better sense.
